1. Introduction
Welcome to the Smart Net Total Care Service. This document w ill outline the steps necessary to install, configure, and
entitle your new Smart Net Total Care collector.
The Smart Net Total Care hardw are collector is pre-configured w ith all of the necessary softw are for operation. In order for
the collector to function, an entitlement certificate must be loaded onto the collector platform. The certificate is created by a
Cisco customer support engineer upon request. Please open a case w ith the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) as
outlined below to receive an entitlement certificate for your collector. You should complete this step as soon as possible to
maximize the value of your Smart Net Total Care contract.
The collector should be mounted in a rack using the included rails. We recommend you place the collector in a lock-and-key
facility w ith limited access.

2. The Smart Net Total Care Hardware Collector


The Smart Net Total Care hardw are unit shipped to you is a Cisco United Communications Server (UCS) C220 M3 highdensity rack-mount server. Its specifications are:

Memory: 8GB

NIC Ports: 2 (NIC1 & NIC2) 10/100/1000 Ethernet

Internal Disk: 500GB SATA 7.2K RPM SFF HDD

Pow er Supply: UL Maximum (AC input) 100-240Vac; 50-60Hz; 10-5A; 650W

3. Opening a Smart Net Total Care Support Case


The collector is only functional w ith a valid entitlement certificate. To receive this certificate, it is necessary to open a TAC
case. A support engineer w ill assist you w ith creating the certificate and send it to you via email or make it available to you
for dow nload.

To open a case, please follow the steps below :

Go to: Cisco.com.

Hover over the Support tab on the top option bar

Click on Open or View Cases on the right side menu

Enter your Cisco.com ID and click on +New Case.

Utilize drop dow n menu to select Support Case Type, Severity of Problem, Extended Loss of Service and Contact
time to get started. Make sure to double check your contact information to ensure that it is correct.

Click Next w hen all items are complete.

Identify the service contract by Product Serial Number search or Service Contract details.

Click on the next icon w hen all items are necessary items are completed.

Fill in Case Title and Case Description fields to describe the relevant issues concerning your case.

Click on the Product f ield, then scroll dow n and click on Smart Services Capabilities then Collector Deployment to
open initial ticket. Choose Collector and Inventory Uploads only after you have been trained on the collector.

For Problem Area field, select Configuration, Configuration Assistance. Then click next.

Confirm that all case details are accurate and complete case creation by clicking Subm it.

4. Installation of Your Collector

Mount the Smart Net Total Care collector in a rack w ith the included rails.

Connect a pow er cable to the pow er supply (A).

Connect an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port of NIC 1 (B).

Connect a monitor using the VGA port (C)*.

Connect a USB keyboard to one of the USB ports (D)*.

(Optional) Connect an additional Ethernet cable to the port of NIC 2 (E), if multiple NICs are required.

(Optional) Connect to Management Port (F) in order to connect to Cisco integrated management console (CIMC).

Press the pow er button on the front of the device to boot up the operating system.

NOTE: Fans and status lights w ill run w hen a pow er cable is plugged in; how ever, the operating system w ill not be booted
until the pow er button is pressed and illuminated green.

5. Configuration of the CIMC (optional)


We recommend you configure the CIMC. This w ill give you access to the hardw are level of the collector for troubleshooting
and maintenance. To access the CIMC, you must first connect using the Management Port (see Figure 3 for reference).

During the boot process, press the F8 key w hen the screen below appears in order to open the CIMC configuration tool.

Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate through the options.

Configure your CIMC IP address and make sure that NIC Mode is set to Dedicated and NIC Redundancy is set to
None.

Save your settings by pressing the F10 key.

Wait for 45 seconds and press F5 to refresh the screen. You should see the message below at the bottom of the
screen.

Press the ESC key to return to the boot process.

6. Configuration of Your SNTC Collector


It is necessary to configure the IP settings of your collector before you can remotely connect. Follow the steps below to set
the IP address. You w ill also be required to change the default passw ord during this process. This process may take up to
five minutes.

Press the pow er button (if not running yet) and w ait until you see the follow ing screen:

During the boot process, you may experience a delay of up to five minutes, after w hich you w ill see the localhost login
prompt.

At the prompt, log in w ith the follow ing credentials:


Username: admin
Passw ord: Admin!23

Follow the instructions w hen prompted to change the passw ord.

At the admin# prompt, type the command conf ip eth0 <your IP> <your Netmask> <your Default Gatew ay> to start
configuring the netw ork settings. Replace the necessary fields w ith your values.

*Typing just conf ip w ill show an example of the command.

Once your settings are correct, reboot your collector by typing reboot and Y to confirm.

7. Verifying Your Configuration


After the reboot has completed, test the netw ork settings by connecting to the collector via SSH from a different computer
using the passw ord you specified during this process. The follow ing screen should display.

8. Next Steps
A Cisco Technical Support Engineer (TSE) w ill respond to the TAC case and send an entitlement certificate via email. The
TSE w ill also schedule a meeting to train you in the use of the collector softw are. During this meeting the TSE w ill confirm
the proper functionality of your collector and backend connectivity.

In the meantime, feel free to explore the resources available on the Smart Net Total Care portal at
https://tools.cisco.com/sntc. You w ill find an eLearning section and other useful documents. You may also create and
update TAC cases if you need additional support.
