General Instruction:-

First of All let me tell you one thing that System Registry is the Heart of
your System.
Read Each and Every line of this book carefully.
To Open Registry Editor:-
Go to start menu
Click on Run…
Type ―regedit‖ without quotes. And click on OK
The Registry Editor will open.
If Run does‘nt appear on your computer than go to C:\Windows and locate
for file regedit.File it seems like this in C: Windows folder.

Before you edit the registry, export the keys in the registry that you plan to
edit, or back up the whole registry. If a problem occurs, you can then follow
the steps how-to restore the registry to its previous state.
How to Export/Backup Registry Keys:-
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
On the File menu, click Export.
In the Save in box, select the boxs at the bottom the bottom according to
weather you want to export all or only selected branches of the registry.
Next select a location in which to save the backup .reg file. In the File name
box, type a file name, and then click Save.
How to Restore the Registry:-
To restore registry keys that you exported, double-click the .reg file that you
saved.

1. Automatically Turn On Num Lock, Scroll Lock,

and Caps Lock!

When you start your PC, Num Lock, Scroll Lock, and Caps Lock don't
automatically toggle on. You can automatically turn each of them on or off
whenever your PC starts, for all accounts on the PC. As a practical matter,
most people probably want to have only Num Lock automatically turned on,
but this Registry hack gives you the power to force any combination of keys
on or off. Run the Registry Editor and go to:-

HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard.

Find the String value InitialKeyboardIndicators. By default, it is set to 0,

which means that Num Lock, Scroll Lock, and Caps Lock are all turned off.
Set it to any of the following values, depending on the combination of keys
you want turned on or off:

0 Turns off Num Lock, Caps Lock, and Scroll Lock

1 Turns on Caps Lock

2 Turns on Num Lock

3 Turns on Caps Lock and Num Lock

4 Turns on Scroll Lock

5 Turns on Caps Lock and Scroll Lock

6 Turns on Num Lock and Scroll Lock

7 Turns on Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Scroll Lock

Exit the Registry. When you restart, the new setting will take effect.

2. Reducing Start and shutdown Wait Time for

XP Speedup!
When you start to shut down Windows XP, it has to quit, or "kill," any live
applications or processes that are currently running. So close all applications
first. However, some applications and processes are always running in the
background. You can reduce the amount of time that Windows XP waits for
those applications and processes to close before Windows XP kills them.
Edit three different Registry settings to change this:

1. Open the Registry Editor. (Click start click run… and type regedit)

2. Navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop.
(1) Double click on WaitToKillAppTimeout and set the Value data to
1000.
(2) Double Click on HungAppTimeout value and set the Value data to
1000 as well.
Picture 1
4. Navigate to :-
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop.
(1) Double click on WaitToKillAppTimeout and set the Value data to
1000.
(2) Double Click on HungAppTimeout value and set the Value data to
1000 as well.
Picture 2
5.Navigate to :-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control.
Select the WaitToKillServiceTimeout value and set it to 1000.

6. Close the Registry Editor.

And Restart you PC.

3. Automatically Killing Tasks on Shutdown!

You know the drill. You start to shut down the computer, you wait a few
moments, and then you see a dialog box asking if you want to kill an
application or service that is running. Instead of prompting you, you can
make Windows XP take care of the kill task automatically. Here's how:

1. Open the Registry Editor. (click start click run… and type regedit)

2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop.

3. Highlight the value AutoEndTasks and change the value to 1.

4. Close the Registry Editor.

5. Restart your PC to take Effect.

4. Menu Speed!
When XP first appeared, there was a lot of conversation about the new
interface, both good and bad. In spite of the initial complaints, most users
stick with the default settings rather than reverting to the Classic interface
found in previous Windows versions. But you might want to change the
delay you notice when you click the Start menu. I see no reason for there to
be any delay when I click the Start menu. Effects are pretty, but I wouldn't
click it if I didn't have business inside, so let's get it open and get moving.
The default speed can be adjusted with a quick Registry hack.

1. Open the Registry Editor. (Click start click run… and type regedit.)
2. Navigate:-
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\MenuShowDelay.
The default value is 400. Set it to 0 to remove the delay completely, but if
you do that it will be nearly impossible to move the mouse fast enough
not to activate All Programs if you mouse over it enroute to your final
selection. Pick a number that suits your style, make the change, and then
test it until you find a good compromise between speed and usability.

5. IMPROVE SWAPFILE PERFORMANCE

If you have more than 256MB of RAM this tweak will considerably improve
your performance. It basically makes sure that your PC uses every last drop
of memory (faster than swap file) before it starts using the swap file.

1. Go to Start then Run…

2. Type ―msconfig.exe‖ then ok.

3. Click on the System.ini tab.

4. Expand the 386enh tab by clicking on the plus sign.

5. Click on new then in the blank box.

Type‖ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1″

6. Click OK

7. Restart PC

6. Place Windows Kernel into RAM!

It's a given that anything that runs in RAM will be faster than an item that
has to access the hard drive and virtual memory. Rather than have the kernel
that is the foundation of XP using the slower Paging Executive functions,
use this hack to create and set the DisablePagingExecutive DWORD to a
value of 1.

Perform this hack only if the system has 256MB or more of installed RAM!
Edit the Registry key:-
(set the value to 0 to undo this hack). Exit the Registry and reboot.
1. Open the Registry Editor. (Click start click run… and type regedit)
2. Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session
Manager\MemoryManagement
3. Set the Value data to 1 to DisablePagingExecutive and have the kernel run
in RAM.
4. Close the Registry Editor.
5. Restart your PC to take Effect.

7. Speed Up Shutdown Times!

It's not only startup times that you'd like to speed up; you can also make sure
that your system shuts down faster. If shutting down XP takes what seems to
be an inordinate amount of time, here are a couple of steps you can take to
speed up the shutdown process:

Don't have XP clear your paging file at shutdown For security reasons, you
can have XP clear your paging file (pagefile.sys) of its contents whenever
you shut down. Your paging file is used to store temporary files and data,
but when your system shuts down, information stays in the file. Some people
prefer to have the paging file cleared at shutdown, because sensitive
information such as unencrypted passwords sometimes ends up in the file.
However, clearing the paging file can slow shutdown times significantly, so
if extreme security isn't a high priority, you might not want to clear it. To
shut down XP without clearing your paging file, run the Registry Editor and
go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session
Manager\Memory Management
Change the value of ClearPageFileAtShutdown to 0. Close the Registry and
restart your computer. Whenever you turn off XP from now on, the paging
file won't be cleared, and you should be able to shut down more quickly.

8. Enable Quicker Startups with a Boot Defragment!

There's another way to speed up XP startup: make your system do a boot

defragment, which will put all the boot files next to one another on your hard
disk. When boot files are in close proximity to one another, your system will
start faster.
On most systems, boot defragment should be enabled by default, but it may
not be on yours, or it may have been changed inadvertently. To make sure
that boot defragment is enabled on your system, run the Registry Editor and
go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimizeFu
nction
Edit the Enable string value to Y if it is not already set to Y. Exit the
Registry and reboot. The next time you reboot, you'll do a boot defragment.

9. Create One-Click Shutdown and Reboot Shortcuts!

Turning off or rebooting XP involves a several-step process: click the Start
menu, choose Shut Down, and then select Shut Down or Restart. If you
want, however, you can exit or reboot much more quickly, by creating a
shortcut that enables one-click shutdowns. You can also use the shortcut to
customize the shutdown or reboot—for example, by displaying a specific
message or automatically shutting down any programs that are running.

First, create a shortcut on your desktop by right-clicking on the desktop,

choosing New, and then choosing Shortcut. The Create Shortcut Wizard
appears. In the box asking for the location of the shortcut, type shutdown.
After you create the shortcut, double-clicking on it will shut down your PC.

But you can do much more with a shutdown shortcut than merely shut down
your PC. You can add any combination of several switches to do extra duty,
like this:
shutdown -r -t 01 -c "Rebooting your PC"
Double-clicking on that shortcut will reboot your PC after a one-second
delay and display the message "Rebooting your PC." The shutdown
command includes a variety of switches you can use to customize it. Table
1-3 lists all of them and describes their use.

I use this technique to create two shutdown shortcuts on my desktop—one

for turning off my PC, and one for rebooting. Here are the ones I use:
shutdown -s -t 03 -c "See you later!"
shutdown -r -t 03 -c "You can't get rid of me that quickly!"
Table Switches you can use with shutdown Switch What it does

-s Shuts down the PC.

-l Logs off the current user.
-t nn Indicates the duration of delay, in seconds,
before performing the action.
-c "messagetext" Displays a message in the System Shutdown
window. A maximum of 127 characters can be
used. The message must be enclosed in
quotation marks.
-f Forces any running applications to shut down.
-r Reboots the PC.

Or go to command prompt and type gpedit.msc.

Now Negivate:-

ComputerConfiguration/AdministrativeTemplates/WindowsComponents/
TerminalServices/TemporaryFolder

Then right click on

"Do Not Delete Temp Folder upon Exit"

Go to properties and select disable. Apply and Ok.

Now next time Windows puts a temp file in that folder it will automatically

11. SPEED UP BOOT BY DISABLING UNUSED PORTS!

You may have tried many tweaks like modifying windowsXP start-up
applications, prefetches, unload DLLs method, etc. And yes those methods
do work for me.
I have just accidentally found out another way to give you an extra boost in
windowsXP's boot performance. This is done by disabling your unused
devices in Device Manager. for example, if you don't have input devices that
are connected to one of your USBs or COM ports, disabling them will give
you an extra perfromance boost in booting.
Go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware tab -> device manager Disable
devices that you don't use for your PC and then restart.
Do Dis !!
1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
2. Locate the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session
Manager\MemoryManagement\PrefetchParameters
3. Make sure you backup the keys by exporting them to a .reg file.
4. On the EnablePrefetcher value, change the setting from 3 to 5 (decimal).
5. Close the registry editor.
6. Restart your computer.

12. Disabling Recent Documents History!

Windows XP includes a feature that keeps track of all recent documents you
have opened or used. The idea is that you can select Start/Recent Documents
History and quickly reopen any document you have recently used. I use
many documents each day and never use the feature myself. In my opinion, I
can keep up with what I want to use without Windows XP doing it for
me.The bad thing about Recent Documents History is that Windows XP has
to calculate what should be put there each time you boot Windows, which
can slow things down. So, if you never use the Recent ocuments History, it's
a good idea to disable it. Here's how:
1. Open the Registry Editor (select Start/Run, type regedit, and click OK).
2. Navigate to :-
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mcrosoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Policies\Explorer.
3. Create a NoRecentDocsHistory D_WORD key. Double-click the value to
open it once it is created.
4. Set the Data Value to 1 to enable the restriction.
5. Click OK and close the Registry Editor. You'll need to restart the
computer for the change to take effect.

22. Superfast Shutdown

Shutdown Your System in a Hurry!

If you need to shut down in a hurry-or if a frozen application prevents you

from shutting down in the normal ways-you can use the following
procedure. Be aware, however, that you won't get an opportunity to save
open documents. To perform an emergency shutdown, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to
display Task Manager. Open the Shut down menu and hold down the Ctrl
key as you click the Turn Off command. Poof! If your computer is part of a
domain, the procedure is similar. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del and then hold down

24. XP browsing speed up tweak

when you connect to a web site your computer sends information back and
forth, this is obvious. Some of this information deals with resolving the site
name to an IP address, the stuff that tcp/ip really deals with, not words. This
is DNS information and is used so that you will not need to ask for the site
location each and every time you visit the site. Although WinXP and
win2000 has a pretty efficient DNS cache, you can increase its overall
performance by increasing its size.

You can do this with the registry entries below:

************begin copy and paste***********

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnsca
che\Parameters]
"CacheHashTableBucketSize"=dword:00000001
"CacheHashTableSize"=dword:00000180
"MaxCacheEntryTtlLimit"=dword:0000fa00
"MaxSOACacheEntryTtlLimit"=dword:0000012d

************end copy and paste***********

make a new text file and rename it to dnscache.reg. The copy and paste the
above into it and save it. Then merge it into the registry.

Leaving your computer in a hurry but you don?t want to log off? You can

To create a shortcut on your desktop to lock your computer:

You can also change the shortcut's icon (my personal favorite is the padlock
icon in shell32.dll).

To change the icon:

Right click the shortcut and then select Properties.

Click the Shortcut tab, and then click the Change Icon button.

In the Look for icons in this file text box, type:

Shell32.dll.
Click OK.

Select one of the icons from the list and then click OK

You could also give it a shortcut keystroke such CTRL+ALT+L. This would
save you only one keystroke from the normal command, but it could be
more convenient.

Windows XP Pro and Home contains icons for folders and files that cannot

You can set windows to view these files as normal hidden files, so that when
you use the view hidden files and folders toggle from the folder options
menu that these will be turned on/off along with the normal hidden files.
These files are usually system files and should not be altered/deleted unless
you really know what you are doing, if you don't yet still wish to change
them I might suggest that you create back-ups of your system first.
I will personally accept no responsibility for any damage caused by using
this tweak. To view the hidden files you need to open up regedit, if you are
not sure how to do this, select run from the start menu and type in 'regedit'

61. How to set search For All Files in Winxp

When you perform a search for a file in Windows XP. The default
setting is for XP to ONLY return files in the "Search Results" pane
- when they are registered file types to a program on your PC.

In other words if you are looking for a file that is NOT registered
with an application on your PC, it will not be found using the
default search settings.

However, you can turn off the default by a quick Tweak of the
registry!

Open the Registry editor (type regedit from the Run command) and
navigate to:

HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\

Control\ContentIndex

Double-Click the value named:

FilterFilesWithUnknownExtensions
..and change the value from 0 to 1

Exit the registry editor and reboot!

63. Do not install more then 500 fonts.

Make sure the customer has fewer than 500 type fonts
installed on their computer. The more fonts they have,
the slower the system will become. While Windows XP
handles fonts much more efficiently than did the
previous versions of Windows, too many fonts -- that is,
anything over 500 -- will noticeably tax the system.

64. Do this when your PC hang

Have you ever been using your computer and your system sudddenly stops
responding in ways like it if you try to open something it just hangs? One
time I tried deleting a folder and it said it was in use, but it really wasn't. If
this ever happens to you, you can follow these simple steps to 'reboot' your
computer without 'rebooting' it.

Press CRTL + ALT + DEL

Goto the 'processes' tab and click explorer.exe once and then click 'end
process'.

Now, click File > New Task and type explorer.exe

Everything should be fine now! If the problem is major, I would recomend

actually shutting down then starting up again.

Another you can logoff your PC in shutdown menu.

70. Hacking Secret

Almost all system administrators make certain changes and make the system restricted.
System Administrators can hide the RUN option, the FIND command, the entire Control
Panel, drives in My Computer like D: A: etc. They can even restrict activities of a hacker
my disabling or hiding, even the tiniest options or tools. Most commonly these
restrictions are imposed locally and are controlled by the Windows Registry. But
sometimes the smart system administrators control the activities of the hacker by
imposing restrictions remotely through the main server.Poledit or Policy Editor is a small
kewl tool which is being commonly used by system administrators to alter the settings of
a system. This utility is not installed by default by Windows. You need to install in
manually from the Windows 98 Installation Kit from the Resource Kit folder. user.dat
file that we saw earlier. The Policy Editor tool imposes restrictions on the user's system by
editing the user.dat file which in turn means that it edits the Windows Registry to change
the settings. It can be used to control or restrict access to each and every folder and option
you could ever think of. It has the power to even restrict access to individual folders,
files, the Control Panel, MS DOS, the drives available etc. Sometimes this software does
make life really hard for a Hacker. So how can we remove the restrictions imposed by the
Policy Editor? Well read ahead to learn more. You see the Policy Editor is not the only
way to restrict a user's activities. As we already know that the Policy Editor edits the
Windows Registry(user.dat) file to impose such restrictions. So this in turn would mean
that we can directly make changes to the Windows Registry using a .reg file or directly to
remove or add restrictions.

Launch Regedit and go to the following Registry Key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/CurrentVersion/Policies

Under this key, there will definitely be a key named explorer. Now under this explorer
key we can create new DWORD values and modify it's value to 1 in order to impose the
restriction. If you want to remove the Restriction, then you can simply delete the
respective DWORD values or instead change their values to 0. The following is a list of
DWORD values that can be created under the Explorer Key-:

NoDeletePrinter: Disables Deletion of already installed Printers

NoAddPrinter: Disables Addition of new Printers
NoRun : Disables or hides the Run Command
NoSetFolders: Removes Folders from the Settings option on Start Menu (Control Panel,
Printers, Taskbar)
NoSetTaskbar: Removes Taskbar system folder from the Settings option on Start
MenuNoFind: Removes the Find Tool (Start >Find)
NoDrives: Hides and does not display any Drives in My Computer
NoNetHood: Hides or removes the Network Neighborhood icon from the desktop
NoDesktop: Hides all items including, file, folders and system folders from the
DesktopNoClose: Disables Shutdown and prevents the user from normally shutting down

Windows.
NoSaveSettings: Means to say, 'Don't save settings on exit'
DisableRegistryTools: Disable Registry Editing Tools (If you disable this option, the
Windows Registry Editor (regedit.exe) too will not work.)
NoRecentDocsHistory: Removes Recent Document system folder from the Start Menu
(IE 4 and above)
ClearRecentDocsOnExit: Clears the Recent Documents system folder on
Exit.Nolnternetlcon: Removes the Internet (system folder) icon from the Desktop

Under the same key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/CurrentVersion/Policies you can create
new subkeys other than the already existing Explorer key. Now create a new key and
name it System. Under this new key, system we can create the following new DWORD
values(1 for enabling the particular option and 0 for disabling the particular option):

NODispCPL: Hides Control Panel

NoDispBackgroundPage: Hides Background page.
NoDispScrsavPage: Hides Screen Saver Page
NoDispAppearancePage: Hides Appearance Page
NoDispSettingsPage: Hides Settings Page
NoSecCPL: Disables Password Control Panel
NoPwdPage: Hides Password Change Page
NoAdminPaqe: Hides Remote Administration Page
NoProfilePage: Hides User Profiles Page

NoDevMgrPage: Hides Device Manager Page

NoConfigPage: Hides Hardware Profiles Page
NoFileSysPage: Hides File System Button
NoVirtMemPage: Hides Virtual Memory Button

Similarly, if we create a new subkey named Network, we can add the following DWORD
values under it(1 for enabling the particular option and 0 for disabling the particular
option):
NoNetSetupSecurityPage: Hides Network Security Page
NoNelSetup: Hides or disables the Network option in the Control
PanelNoNetSetupIDPage: Hides the Identification Page

Dear reader of this book. If you want to secure your E-mail account and
other thing than use these type of password do not create simple password
like:-

Name etc. or any dictionary word Plz don‘t use that type of password

For my point of view use these type of password and ensure that your
password should atleast 15 characters long and characters should alpha
numeric as well as special character also your password should like these.

Sample of unbreakeable and strong password:-

!@#$%IndiA123AjaY

^&*()G00dm0rning15-dec-1990India (here I use zero instead of o)

Have!a!nice!dayt0!india.

questions put these type of password and information.

73. Customizing the Right Click Context Menu

of the Start Menu
When you right click on the start menu, only 3 options pop up: Open,
Explore, and Find. You can add your own programs to this pop up menu(
which comes up when we right click on it.) Open Regedit and go to the
following registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Shell
Right click on the shell and create a new Sub Key (You can create a new
SubKey by right clicking on the Shell Key and selecting New > Key.).
Type in the name of the application you want to add to the start menu. I
want to add Notepad to the Start Menu and hence I name this new sub
key, Notepad. Now right click on the new registry key that you just
created and create yet another new key named Command. Enter the full
path of the application, in this case Notepad in the default value of
Command in the right pane. So I Modify the value of the default string
value and enter the full pathname of Notepad:
c:\wndows\notepad.exe.
Now press F5 to refresh. Now if you right click on the Start Button you
will find a new addition to the Pop Up Menu called Notepad. Clicking on it
will launch Notepad.
We can not only add but also remove the existing options in this pop up
box.
To delete the Find option, go to the following registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Shell\Find
Delete Find. DO NOT delete Open else you will not be able to open any
folders in the Start Menu like Programs, Accessories etc.
BMP Thumbnail As Icon
You can actually change the default BMP icon to a thumbnail version of
the actual BMP file. To do this simply goes to HKCU\Paint.Picture\Default.
In the right pane change the value of default to %1. Please note however
that this will slow down the display rate in explorer if there are too many
BMP thumbnails to display. You can use other icons too, simply enter the
pathname. To restore back to the normal change the vale of default back
to: C:\Progra~1\Access~1\MSPAINT.EXE,1.

77. Perform a Boot Defragment

There's a simple way to speed up XP startup: make your system do a
boot defragment, which will put all the boot files next to one another
on your hard disk. When boot files are in close proximity to one
another, your system will start faster. On most systems, boot
defragment should be enabled by default, but it might not be on
yours, or it might have been changed inadvertently. To make sure
that boot defragment is enabled on your system, run the Registry
Editor and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimize
Function
Edit the Enable string value to Y if it is not already set to Y. Exit the
Registry and reboot. The next time you reboot, you'll do a boot
defragment.

Windows search for every file, regardless of its extension. Open the

entIndex.
Double-click the FilterFilesWithUnknownExtensions icon in the right
pane, change the 0 in the 'Value data' box to 1, and press Enter. To
ensure that Windows XP searches for every possible file, select All
Files and Folders under 'Type of file' in the Search Companion pane.
(If you don't see this option, click More Advanced Options.) Check
Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search
subfolders (as desired). In Windows 2000, click Search Options,
check Type, and make sure that (All Files and Folders) is selected in
the resulting drop-down menu. Check Advanced Options, and make
sure Search Subfolders is checked. Finally, to ensure that Windows
2000 finds system and hidden files, choose Tools, Folder Options
and click the View tab. In the 'Advanced settings' list, select Show
hidden files and folders. Uncheck Hide protected operating system
files (Recommended), click yes to acknowledge the warning, and
finish by clicking

Microsoft reserves 20% of your available bandwidth for their own

Configuration Administrative Templates Network QOS Packet
Scheduler and then to LimitReservableBandwidth. Double click on
Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the
truth is under the 'Explain' tab i.e."By default, the Packet Scheduler
limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but
you can use this setting to override the default." So the trick is to
ENABLE reservable bandwidth, then set it to ZERO. This will allow
the system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20%.It works on
Win 2000 as well.

86. Control Panel: Hide Unused Applets with the

Registry
To hide unused applets using the Registry, run the Registry Editorand go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVer
sion\ControlPanel\don't load.
The key, as its name implies, determines which Control Panel applet icons
are not loaded into the Control Panel. You'll still be able to run those applets
from the command line after you hide them; you just won't be able to see
their icons in the Control Panel.
To hide an applet, create a new String value whose name is the filename of
