1.2 Explain how each approach to work with children in the early years has influenced
current provision in the UK
There are four main approaches to working with children each approach, they each have
main points and have all influenced the early years provision in the UK.
Reggio Emilias approach has influenced our roles by combining parents roles and
communities roles. Parents are encouraged to be involved with the child's development and
curriculum planning. We are learners too as we are continually developing and enhancing
our understanding. Reggio Emilia influenced how we lay out our rooms with the use of open
and free flow space.
These is a much of this model that interested the educators of Wales and this approach
influence current practice in the EYFP curriculum in the UK due to;
Practitioners are meant to provide opportunities child indicated- play
In my placement there is an emphasis on sensory and outdoor play when children have a
golden time they have open classroom so children can decide which area outdoor or indoor
they want to play.
Maria Montessori believes that children have a desire to learn and that there are times when
a child is naturally open and receptive to learning particular skills and understanding certain
things.
This approach influence current practice in the EYFP curriculum in the UK due to;
In my placement I am working in special hearing classroom and in this classroom we have
Mixed age for children ages 2 or 3 to 6 years old by far the most common. This class is a
very big and children have freedom of movement within the classroom.
Steiners approach focuses on the personal social and emotional development of children as
well it is quite similar to the Montessori approach, but it also focuses on the pace of learning
set by the child which is a good way of practitioners being able to observe and understand
how each child is learning. This approach also shows the importance of children's
imaginative skills and creativity and the level of their understanding.
This approach influence current practice in the EYFP curriculum in the UK due to;
In my placement, the learning experience of children under the age of seven is integrated
and not subject-based. We use mathematical language all the time, for example, might take
place at the cooking table, where a food for the snack is prepared and concepts such as
addition and subtraction (or more or less), weight, measure, quantity, and shape are grasped
in a practical manner as part of daily life.
Children are able to tell a story by reading the pictures in a book, which develops verbal
skills, frees the narrative from the printed text and encourages children to use their own
words.
In my placement after reading the story for example The little red hen we have some
picture of hen and eggs from the book and children need put it in the right order to tell what
has happen in this story.
High/scope focuses on recognizing and providing support to the difference in children within
their setting, also it is to help the building up of self confidence and self-esteem in young
children and their own independence. This approach helps children understand how to be
responsible for making their own decisions. In the settings that use this approach they would
expect a child to learn the skills of planning their own play and learning, be able to review it
and knowing how to report back to other children. It is important that the children have a
routine they are used to and can conduct themselves by. This is a positive approach as it

helps children learn about decision making being self-confident in the choices they make.
This approach influence current practice in the EYFP curriculum in the UK due to;
Active participation of children in choosing, organizing and evaluating learning activities,
which are undertaken with careful teacher observation and guidance in a learning
environment loaded with a rich variety of materials located in various classroom learning
centres Regular daily planning by the teaching staff in accord with a developmentally based
curriculum model and careful child observations
In my placement teacher is planning a weekly activities by observing the children interest.
Our home corner topic for this term is Euro 2016 and there is picture of children favourites
footballers and their countries flags.
