Technology brings a lot of help in people. It entwined in almost every part of their
lives, especially for students. In twenty Grade 10 students of Las Pias East National
High School Talon Village Annex Year 2015-2016. 25% mentioned that technology
helps them in making their homework It helps me a lot of course in a way it makes my
time highly consumed and it helps me in doing my homework, seat works and many
more Ms. Gem Latayan of Grade 10-Darwin. Technologies make the life of students
more easier. According to a respondent, Ms. Pamela Magno of Grade 10-Bell,
technologies gives a really big help for a student like her especially when it comes to
research for school works, printed works, for visual aids and also for communication
without technology it is hard to make those things manually. For example, calculating
Math or Physics problem, without calculator, it will take a long time and it will be hard to
solve. Technology has been very useful in terms of studies. Most of the students, use it
as a source and they find it easier to use said Rica Mae Policarpio of Grade 10-Darwin.
Todays teenager finds the technology interesting. They can easily learned how to use
the new released technologies (e.g. hover boards). Today is 21 st Century; our nation
becomes more dependent on technologies. Television for entertainment, X-Box for
virtual gaming, machines for productions of goods, tractors for harvesting wheat and
most of the time for the students, they use technology to find and discover more.
Wikipedia, Google, Yahoo and YouTube are some application that gives some
information that students can use. Technology can also improve social lives and
communication skills of a student, of a teenager. Facebook is an application that can be
found in computers, mobile phones, iPad and etc. Facebook is a popular free social
networking website that allows registered users to create profiles, upload photos and

video, send messages and keep in touch with friends, family and colleagues. All the 20
respondents have their account on the said site, and technology has a good and bad
effect on students. Technology tends to do work easier especially for projects and
assignments of students. Technology gives some information for their assignment. They
can easily find the answers by just typing and clicking than going to library and read
thick books. Students can quickly access the information online about a particular topic.
It improves the data collections of students. Its the one where I can find the answers
for my assignment said Ms. Allysa De Veza of Grade 10-Darwin. Much technology can
affect the quality of learning and teaching not only in the Philippines but all over the
world. Students learn more with the aid of the technology, students will be able to see
and they will be able to have a visual image or whatever it is. For example, how can you
explain the progress by merely defining progress? It is better if students will be able to
see the difference between an outdated society from an advance and high-tech society
said Mrs. Vilma Suba, a Grade 10 A.P. Teacher of Las Pias East National High School
Talon Village Annex. Technology gives really big help to students; it helps them to find
answers, information and additional knowledge. Ms. Pamela Mae Magno said that
technology can improve her communication skills, creativity and it can give her broad
information rather than the teachers. It makes her study easier, especially in research
because technology has much more information than any of us. Technology offers a
variety of learning opportunities beyond the physical limits of school. The innovation of
technology has a big contribution to the way students learn. The students already have
an idea, not actually an idea but knowledge on not only how to use but how to
manipulate, control, take over the technology and they can easily grasp the world

through social networking and other websites said Mrs. Emalyn Pancho, a Grade 10
T.L.E. Teacher of Las Pias East National High School Talon Village Annex.
But because of the accessibility of different information, the students tend to
become lazy; they rely on the technologies in their surroundings to the point that they
cant do the things by themselves instead of thinking on their own. Technology is
affecting the lifestyle of the people. Trishzia Muan of Grade 10-Bell said that Different
computer games, application, software is blurring the relationship of teenagers, as a
student from their family; they tend to use and to spend more time in front of computer
or mobile phones than having a chat time bonding with their family. Technology makes
our lives easier. It is spoiling us, giving what we want in a way that we just need to click
in the computer and the item will be deliver on us. For switching the channels in the
television, remote control did that for me, no need to stand up to switch the channels. In
short, technology encourages us to be lazy. Most of the students get addicted to certain
technology that causes them to be distracted on their studies. Ms. Marites Espiritu says
that because of technology, students doesnt even experience the games before like
larong lahi, they dont even experience the games of running like Patintero, in that
term it shows another disadvantage of having a technology. Technology is very useful
but this can also be a destructive weapon that can destroy a beautiful dreams.
Students, teenager, nowadays are getting addicted in a certain application like Clash of
Clans. This may lead to lack of sleep and it will affect the performance of a student in
the class. At this manner, it can cause a domino effect; poor performances may lead to
low grades that can lead to a worst result. Because of the easy access to the internet,
students became more curious to something that is not proper to their age. Ms. Realyn
Ibaya of Grade 10-Bell said that The youth was early exposed in websites that includes

pornography, crimes and other things that can affect their minds. According to Mr. Ken
Ivan Casitas of Grade 10-Bell too, The importance of books fade because of
technology, students prefer more to browse in the internet than reading the old books in
the library. But not only have the purpose of the books faded but also the culture and
traditions. Mrs. Vilma Suba, a Grade 10 A.P. Teacher also said that If the technology is
not properly use, it can destroy civilization, culture, tradition and more raise. Because of
the technology, the culture of a particular society can be at stake with the outset of high
technology. It can also affect the behavior of the students. Since our technology today
is in very fast phase, students nowadays are very impatient and they tend to be like
computers, they want to do things in just one click, no more patience and of course
computers has high radiation so students are now prone to cancer. But we hope and
pray that it will not come to the point to much radian will come to people because of the
use of computers said Mrs. Emalyn Pancho.
An online article that is written by Lynda Moultry Belcher, a writer, editor and
public relations professional states some disadvantages and disadvantages of
Technology. She states that In today's world, where just about everything is more
convenient and accessible due to advances in technology across almost all sectors, it
may seem as though it's a misnomer to even mention any disadvantages of
technological advances. However, despite how far technology has taken humans and
no matter how convenient it may make things, there are some disadvantages
accompanying this level of access. The article shows different advantages like the
great discoveries in all industries; technologies advances show people a more efficient
way to do things. The machines are able to produce the same output than human. But
this lessens the value in the human workers. Companies find they dont need to employ

as many people because the machine can do many works and it is more efficient and
faster.
Another article shows the advantages and disadvantages of technology in
Education thats been published by Occupy Theory. It states that Technology in
education plays an important role in improving the educational skills and knowledge of
the people. This is very important especially those who need improve their knowledge in
order for them to achieve a successful life in the future. Technology in education is
manifested through the use of computers. This is also a great help for teachers since
they can already enhance their teaching skills and strategies every time they are facing
their class. This technology is very essential for both the students and the teacher but
there are some instances wherein this technology is seen to be disadvantageous for
both of them as well. Students can already learn from their own even without the
assistance of their parents and teachers. They are just going to surf the internet in order
to look for the lessons they need to study. Quick accessibility and well-equipped with the
skills and knowledge in operating a computer would be very helpful for the students.
The need for heavy books to be brought back and forth from school and home is no
longer needed with technology. The books can stay in the classroom because the
information that they need is easily accessed on a computer. Since there are lots of
images, videos and other graphics and text that may be found in your computer, more
students would feel the excitement in studying through the use of the gadget. This is
very important in order to arouse their interest in studying. They would no longer rely
on the books that are lent by their teachers for them to study since they are already
interested to study using the computer. Even simple problems and homework that they
need to answer, they are more of seeking the assistance of computers already. Allowing

the students to surf the internet doesnt necessarily mean that all the things that they
are going to discover are good for their mind and studies. There are several things that
are found in the internet which are not good for the students hence they need to be
properly guided by their teachers and parents every time they are going to use the
computer. Technology in education plays an important role in the study habits and skills
of your child. But, you need to make sure that you are going to be very careful in
allowing them to use their computer and surf the internet for them to avoid discovering
things that are not part of their studies. It is always important to let them used some of
these technology in education as often as it is in order to prevent forgetting the basic
way of studying.
Another article by Techno Edu shows the advantages and disadvantages of
technology in students life. In the side of Advantages, it states that Previously, students
had to venture to libraries and sort through books to search for information. Now,
through technology, they can gather all needed knowledge instantly; with the internet,
students can accumulate more information quickly and efficiently while teachers can
incorporate more into their lesson plans. In the past when students had to use typewriters or handwrite their papers, they would have to re-copy their whole essay if they
made a mistake. Now, writers can digitally modify their papers quickly (proofreading,
adding sections, etc.) while reducing their frustration by decreasing the amount of time
spent with this task. Instead of teachers relying on textbooks for the majority of their
lesson plans, they can use technology to enhance learning through movies and audio
recordings, articles, and/or slide show presentations. Considering the internet allows for
easier attainment of supplementary information, teachers can provide much more

materials to their students other than whats in their midst. Technology tools allow
students to communicate with each other through email, chat rooms, discussion boards,
etc., to share information efficiently. This allows for an extensive community of learners
all working towards a specific goal. Many students find school tedious and technology
gains the attention of youth leading to a higher degree of motivation. When students
daily activities are so repetitive, technology recaptures their interest and pulls them back
into learning in a more interesting manner.
In the side of Disadvantages, it states that Technology can provide much
frustration to the student and/or teacher if the instructor is not correctly trained in
technology and can support the hardware in the classroom. If schools cannot support
their purchased technology, then this equipment goes unused and may be a waste of
money. Last, with technology constantly renewing, maintenance of these devices may
become a hassle. Using technological programs in the classroom towards a learning
goal is a positive thing; yet, transferring passive use of technology into active use is a
skill that takes much time and practice. In other words, learning with technology is not
fully integrated and useful until children are learning from it and not with it. Sometimes
teacher shy away from using technology due to connection problems, downloading
issues, software, and other difficulties because of their lack of time. Today, the students
time within the classroom is becoming more and more valuable so technology may not
be the answer as a teaching method in order to preserve time. Once technology is
purchased, the upkeep and maintenance may be too much financially for the school to
maintain. With outdated programs and hardware and the cost of repairing equipment
may be stretching many schools budgets. Most schools have a strict foundation

surrounding state or national assessments. The majority of these exams are pencil-andpaper based in order to make them accessible and equal to all schools and students;
because technology involves input to a computer, there is a divide between the
assessments that determine government funding and the use of technology in the
classroom.
Based on the article written by Jana Sosnowski at ehow.com, she states that
Technology in education has blossomed in the form of course-specific web pages,
email communication, online courses, and tools used specifically in the classroom like
laptops, calculators and presentation hardware. In addition to supplementing in-class
instruction, technology has created educational opportunities for students and teachers.
On the other hand, discrepancies in available technologies and training needed for
implementing technologies in learning can also present some disadvantages.
Technology can allow for a shift to a paperless classroom, which can make the teacher's
job more efficient and organized. With a paperless format for grading and tracking
assignments, teachers transport less student work to and from home and can access
grades from multiple locations. Teachers may also teach in a distance-learning format,
allowing them to potentially take on more students and course sections as meeting
times are more flexible or nonexistent. In this format, a teacher can use a variety of
technologies to present course information and reuse materials in several sections of a
course without having to repeat the same lecture. Technology, specifically the Internet,
gives students instant access to research databases from a variety of sources, including
news sources, university databases and instructional videos. Beginning at the youngest
levels of education, students can take a more active role in their own learning using

technology. Games can provide children with practice in learning shapes, the alphabet
and math skills, for example. Software can provide English language learners with
opportunities to practice language skills independently. Additionally, technology allows
students to learn from home, which is often more convenient, less costly and provides
equity for rural students. One disadvantage for teachers at all levels of education is
trying to keep up with changing technologies and learning how to use both hardware
and software for educational purposes. Additionally, teachers must learn how to ensure
that students are learning skills rather than simply learning how to efficiently use
technology. For example, using a graphing calculator in a geometry class may make it
easier for students to find angle measures without understanding properties of a
triangle. Teachers can also find the amount of student communication via email
overwhelming if they have increased numbers of students. Discrepancies in computer
skills may make assignments more difficult to complete for some students. Computer
malfunctions can cause them to lose assignments or materials. In the case of online
courses taken from home, varying Internet speeds and devices available to students at
home may cause some students difficulty. Additionally, acquiring information in an online
course relies largely on student motivation and self-monitoring, which may be difficult for
some students. Other disadvantages include the danger of time spent off task distracted
by social media and websites, or lack of motivation to complete tasks in a timely
manner.
It is clear in the articles that technology has advantages and disadvantages that
can affect the life of students. It is just a proof that not all of the things and changes in
this world are good and perfect. It has successfully turned this world into a paradise for

several years. And hopefully in the future, the next set of its contributions embody the
best solutions for all of its negative effects at the present time.

Conclusion

Therefore we conclude that the effect of technology in our life as a student can
be positive or negative. We can use it as an immediate source for projects, assignments
and activities. Technology is merely spreading and it is very common now in our school,
for e.g. every student can be seen carrying mobile phone. But besides all of this, its sad
to say that it is being abused too. Many students use it for nonsense thing such as
watching adult videos, playing addicting games, and too much selfie and picture taking
that does not even help them in their studies. Its influence does not mean that it is not
applicable to be used by students, thus it should be controlled to have a better living.
One thing is for sure and it is the fact that students are just too abusive to all good
things that surrounds them. If only we use this for good terms, then well see how
wonderful our innovations are. A lot of websites and Social Medias are scattered around
the world that may help us in our studies and other activities such as Google, Gmail,
Facebook, Yahoo, YouTube and etc. We can get in these sites different learning
materials such as module. Its just too bad that sometimes we reach our limits, for e.g.
the students are just depending on the answer that they get from the internet instead of
their own knowledge. In overall, technology isnt bad if we only see all of its benefits and
how important it is in our lives as a student.

Introduction

Technology is everywhere and it almost becomes part of peoples life. It affects

everything people do; shopping, cooking, socializing, playing, studying and etc. It makes
peoples lives easier travelling to a place they could not possibly reach, connecting to
people who are far away from them this is all possible because of technologies.
Since the Stone Age, technologies becomes part of peoples lives ranging from as
simple as the stone tools to the complex genetic engineering, from atomic bombs to
cellphone. The technological development of 20 th Century has been profound. Both
improving our lives and endangering us, the new technologies enable people to create
new things which may assist them in their daily routine. In fact, technologies give more
details than our own senses. Since much of these technologies are applied to day-today basis, how does it influence people, especially the students in their daily lives?
According to Liz Thomas and Paul Revoir for Mail Online, we now spend almost
half of our walking hours, either online, on the phone, or watching television. According
to a survey, the average adult is awake for 15 hours and 45 minutes every day and 45%
of that time is sent using a technology. Younger folks, aged between 16 and 24 are the
most adopt at multi-tasking, cramming nearly 5 hours of media into just under two hours
a day. Spokesman Peter Philip said that The younger people have shown the biggest
changes in how we use the media, but divided between younger and older peoples use
of technology today is developing and improving quickly, technology makes the life of
students to get easier life.
Technology also has the potential to transform the education by extending the
learning space beyond the four walls of a classroom. Technology

helps students to control over their own learning, they can access the must-up-to-date
information quicker and easier rather than reading thick old books with limited
information. But then, some students abuse the use of technology some of them use it
for fun only, wasting time for nonsense things. Then, what are the disadvantages in
using the technologies for students.
This research will focus on the influence of todays technologies in the Grade 10
students of Las Pias East National High School Talon Village Annex on School Year
2015-2016. Discovering the positive and negative side of technologies in the life of a
Grade 10 student. Todays technologies are expected to have a great impact in the
personality of a student. It can be beneficial or destruction in reaching the goal of a
student.
