DEVEOPMENT PLAN 2014-2016

DESCRIPTION OF ISSUE
A students health status is directly related to his or her ability to learn. Children with unmet
health needs have a difficult time engaging in the educational process. The school nurse
supports student success by providing health care through assessment, intervention, and followup for all children within the school setting. The school nurse addresses the physical, mental,
emotional, and social health needs of students and supports their achievement in the learning
process. The school nurse not only provides for the safety and care of students and staff but also
addresses the need for integrating health solutions into the education setting.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
Goals:
A. To help students attain and maintain an optimum health status so that they may receive
maximum benefit from their educational experiences.
B. To promote the development of positive health attitudes and practices.
C. To promote a risk-free environment.
D. To integrate the school health program with other health service delivery, systems.
Objectives:
1A. To maintain a comprehensive health record system.
2A. To assess the health status of students.
3A. To identify health problems and develop and implement plans of action for their resolution
or management.

1B. To provide health counseling and instruction for students, parents, and faculty/staff.
2B. To assist with the development. of positive health attitudes and practices through formal and
informal instruction.
3B. To provide health education for school personnel and parents.

1C. To plan and implement a program of prevention and control of communicable disease in
accordance with regulations.
2C. To develop and implement an emergency care plan.
3C. To identify problem areas in the school environment and assist with corrective measures.

1D. To design a health referral and follow-up system.


2D. To increase parents knowledge of available health related resources.
3D. To assist students to become knowledgeable health consumers.
