Basic Techniques in Photoshop:

1. How to extract an object:
a. Pen
b. Mask Mode

- The red area: Unselected.

- Click the button (Q) to switch between two modes:
+ Editing selection area (Use Brush or Eraser to edit)
+ Selection.

c. Mask
- This method does not affect the original picture.
It use a mask to cover unnecessary area of the
picture.
- While the layer is selected, click on the button
(below). It will create a white rectangular on the
right of the selected layer.
- White the rectangular is selected, use the brush
to paint black to cover unwanted area or paint
white to fix painted wrongly area.
- The color for the brush is the color in the top box

Note: Press D to make it default color (top white,

below black). Press X to swap two color of two
boxes together.

d. Direct remove
- Use Eraser (E) to directly unwanted area.
- Change the size of the eraser arbitrarily
to erase.
- Should start from a small-sized eraser to
erase the area around the border of the
main object. Then, increase the size of the
brush to erase other area.
- Should use a soft erase (change the
hardness as necessary).
- Should use the key SHIFT to erase along
a straight line.

e. Other methods: Quick Selection Tool, Lasso (L)

2. Essential Effects:
a. Blurring:
- Chose menu Filter Blur (Gaussian Blur, Motion Blur, Radial Blur)
Note:
+ Can apply the effect to the whole layer or just one selection area.
+ Protect an object in the layer from being affected by the effect by
extracting them and put it in a new layer.
b. Light Effects:
+ Choose menu Filter Render Lens Flare

Note: Cant apply to an empty layer.

3. Color Adjustment

a. Keep layers intact from adjustment.

- Choose menu Layer New Adjustment Layer (Choose any kind)
- The adjustment layer will affect to all layers beneath.

- To apply to one layer, move the mouse between the Adjustment layer &
the layer you want to apply. Push the key ALT on the key board and left
click. It should be like this:
