Disclaimer
RHS DartWars is not associated with Ridgewood High School. The only relation between RHS and DartWars is
that DartWars participants are students at RHS.

All Rules and the concept of the game are the ideas and creation of Sean Logue (RHS '06) and co-creator
Bryan Edelman (RHS '06)
Rules (Any violation will result in immediate ejection from that round) There will be NO warnings. If you break
a rule, you will be disqualified.
First of all, kills will only be counted if emailed to rhsdartwars2016@gmail.com It must state the name of the
killed, the killer, the place, and the time. Failure to do so will result in kills not counting. Shootouts must also
be emailed with the place and time of the shootout. Any subs must be included in the email and need
approval from the commissioner(s) as well as the other team beforehand.
1. DO NOT BRING GUNS OR DARTS TO SCHOOL! Bringing any sort of weapon to schoolreal or fakeis
inappropriate (and against the law), and could result in disciplinary consequences for the Organizer and,
definitely, the rule violator. Shooting while on RHS grounds, even after school hours, is also illegal (see note
on rule 2 for details). Bringing darts or dart guns to school will result in the disqualification of any person or
persons who do so. If I see you with a dart gun in school I will take it from you, and disqualify you for the
round.
2. PLAYERS CANNOT BE ELIMINATED AT SCHOOL, WORK, OR THEIR PLACE OF WORSHIP. (As of last year, all
Youth group meetings including those on Wednesdays will be off limits due to prayer services. This applies to
any other youth groups of any religion that people may attend) As I alluded to in the previous rule, using any
sort of weapon in school promotes violence. If a student is shot in school, the administration will get involved
and may contact the police, officially ending DartWars. Players cannot be eliminated at school functions
either, which include, but aren't limited to: sporting events in which players are participants, sports
practices, and school dances. Players are also protected if they are participating in a sport that is not schoolrelated (e.g. Maroons Soccer Club, Ridgewood Biddy, rec baseball, etc.) Spectators of sports, however, may
be shot while watching a game, provided that it is taking place off of school grounds. Players may not be
shot at work, nor may they shoot another player while working. (It is understood that if your opponent
cannot shoot you, you cannot shoot him/her.)
Note: These safe areasschool grounds, places of work, and places of worshipare for your protection and
should not be taken for granted.
Also note: Anywhere within the line of sight of RHS is considered to be school property; therefore, you may
not shoot or be shot on Heermance Place, Beverly Road (only sidewalk and street, house properties are
legal), the football field, Ridgewood Ave. (from the dirt road to the corner of Van Dien & Ridgewood on the

school side), or the side of North Irving immediately adjacent to Stevens Field. The side of North Irving
opposite Stevens (the sidewalk on the same side as Vets Field) is NOT a safe area. If you have a question,
please contact me about it.
3. THE 5-MINUTE RULE After a legitimate school sports practice that is off of RHS grounds, players are given
5 minutes of safety to go home, change, or acquire a dart gun. This rule is only a guideline, 5 minutes is not
the "set" amount of time you must wait. Once a person enters transportation from a school sporting event,
they are fair game. This rule applies both ways; the athlete leaving practice cannot shoot either. If your
target is standing around, taunting you and taking his sweet ole' time, by all means, shoot him; however, if
your target is packing up in a timely manner, and he leaves quickly, let him be. I am relying on your
judgment to enforce this rule, so please cooperate.
Note: The 5-minute Rule does NOT apply to non-school sporting events because players are permitted to arm
themselves at s
uch events. Remember, though, that no player may be shot while participating in an official team sport.
4. DO NOT LIE, CHEAT OR STEAL. Honesty is essential for this tournament to run smoothly. If you are shot,
admit it; don't create problems. Being caught lying, cheating, or stealing will result in disciplinary act.
5. NO COMPLAINING. I reserve the right to disqualify players for excessive complaining or arguing. If you
have a dispute with another player, work it out without seeking an opinion. I am not here to be a mediator. If
you have done everything you can to resolve your problemsought other participants' opinions, attempted to
compromise, etc.- you may report your dispute via e-mail only. If I feel there is enough information to make a
fair and just decision, I will do so. However, if I can tell you have not tried to work this out, and are making a
ridiculous argument, you will be ignored. Facebook or Message conversations that are to be considered in the
decision-making process should be e-mailed in their entirety to rhsdartwars2016@gmail.com . Please do not
send snippets of conversations, whether via text or e-mail.
Note: Creating a petition saying how horrible something is qualifies as complaining and will not be tolerated.
All decisions are final and no appeals will be considered.
6. TEAM CAPTAINS MUST REPORT THEIR TEAM'S KILLS. If you eliminate another player, you need to take note
of whom you shot, at what time you shot them, and at what location you shot them. Any report not
containing all of this information will be invalid. Have your team captain promptly send this information via email to rhsdartwars2016@gmail.com. Shootout kills are just like normal kills, include all the information.
Keep in mind that reporting illegitimate kills will only make the game more difficult to run. Honesty will help
ensure that the game is fair and that the best team wins. If a false kill is reported, disciplinary action will be
taken. Colorful accounts of the kill are strongly encouraged, and should be sent along with the kill report to
be posted on the site's 'News Feed' section. If the team captain is unavailable to report the kills at any given
time, I need to know ASAP.
Note: Only "kill" reports via e-mail from team captains will be accepted, so please do not report in person or
call to report a "kill".

7. DO NOT USE DARTWARS AS AN EXCUSE FOR LATENESS/ABSENCE. The minute teachers think DartWars is
interfering with their ability to teach, the game will be over. Players who use DartWars as an excuse for being
late to class or absent will be disqualified for one round of play.
8. NO TRUCE IS GUARANTEED. Players may form truces among themselves if they wish, but the terms of
truces will not be enforced by the judges. Any kill resulting from a truce violation, though unsportsmanlike, is
considered legitimate, and arguing otherwise is a waste of your time.
9. DRIVE-BY SHOOTINGS ARE FORBIDDEN. Drive-by shootings would make the game of DartWars
considerably more dangerous. As it is, young drivers are the most prone to car accidents; having to pursue a
target, listen to screaming passengers, and/or aim a gun would only distract an adolescent driver, further
increasing the chance of an accident. A car moving at any speed is considered in motion, therefore
prohibiting any shot attempts by anyone in the vehicle. Conversely, nobody may jump onto or shoot into a
moving car from the street/sidewalk. If the car's engine is off, shooting may occur both ways only if there is
at least one door open. If no door is open, no shooting can occur. Open windows and trunks do not count as
open doors. (To avoid disputes over whether or not the vehicle in question was off, once you make the kill,
close the door and wait a few seconds before turning on the car. If you're sitting in your car with your
windows and doors closed, you can't get killed, so utilize this strategy to prevent complaints from the
opposition.)
10. DO NOT USE ILLEGAL GUNS OR MISUSE EQUIPMENT. Players are only permitted to fire foam darts or
arrows with soft tips; all-plastic darts are prohibited. Guns that fire balls, discs, BBs, paintballs, or darts of
any material other than foam are not permitted. A player can only be eliminated by being shot with a dart;
darts that are thrown, kicked, or otherwise sent in the direction of an opponent will not result in the
opponent's elimination. If you have a question on the legality of a particular gun/dart, ask before using it.
11. PLAYERS CANNOT MAKE THEIR GUNS LOOK REAL! If a police officer sees you with what he/she thinks is a
real gun, he/she may open fire! There have been instances where police have pulled guns on Nerf-gun
wielding kids, so don't think it can't
happen. Modifying guns to make them realistic is a bad idea. If modifications need to be made in order for
the gun to function, they may be done. Guns must also still be powered by their original means whether it's
by pulling a string, using a pump, or by using a cocking device. Only store bought blowguns manufactured
specifically for the purpose of shooting Nerf darts are allowed. Since they are made for shooting darts, they
are powered by their original means. Modifications to blow guns are not permitted, and if we catch you with
a home-made or modified blow gun, you will be disqualified from the round.
12. PLAYERS CAN USE AS MANY GUNS AS THEY WISH. If you can shoot it, you can use it, provided that it
meets the aforementioned requirements.
13. ANY (LEGAL) DART CAN BE USED BY ANY PERSON. There is no "dart courtesy" in DartWars; if you fire a
dart, you run the risk that an opponent will retrieve it. There is, however, "gun courtesy"; do not take a
player's gun for any reason. To avoid problems with this, try and write your team name/initials on guns.
Therefore, if a team is suspected to be using a stolen gun, it will be easier to identify. Dead players cannot
retrieve darts; if you're shot dead, you immediately lose your privilege to pick up darts. Violators of this rule
will be subject to penalty at my discretion.

14. DANGEROUS DART LAUNCHING DEVICES (DDLD) - If you shoot someone and they complain about the
pain of impact of the dart you MAY NOT USE that dart launching device until it is reviewed for safety. If I find
that it is in fact a DLDD, the kill will not count and the gun that inflicted the pain will no longer be permitted
for use in DartWars. No dart launching devices should leave SCARS, OR DRAW BLOOD under any
circumstances! A second infraction of this rule will result in disqualification from the remainder of the game.
Do not be a baby about this rule. Some shots may hurt a little so just suck it up. I don't want to hear stupid
complaints.
15. DEAD PLAYERS MAY NOT CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR TEAM'S CAUSE. If you are eliminated, you are out of
DartWars for the round and thus cannot participate. Dead players are not permitted to hold guns for
teammates, pick up the opposing team's darts, take "bullets" for teammates, or block opponents. Dead
players are, however, permitted to drive and strategize.
16. PLAYERS CAN ONLY BE ELIMINATED BY DIRECT HITS. Players cannot be eliminated by a dart that deflects
off of a tree or nearby object; however, anything a player is holding/wearing (e.g. gun, hat, shirt, shield,
backpack) is considered a part of the player's body. One shot cannot get two players out at once. If a dart
hits your gun, it counts.
17. SHIELDING/BLOCKING/HITTING DARTS IS NOT ALLOWED. As mentioned in the previous rule, shields are
forbidden. Players cannot hit darts in any way. The only way to prevent a dart from hitting you is to move out
of the way, or to duck behind a natural shield (e.g. a tree, bench, log).
18. PLAYERS MAY CAMP FOR A MAXIMUM OF TWO HOURS AT A TIME. Camping/waiting outside of a player's
home/work for more than two hours is prohibited. After the two-hour period elapses, the camper(s) must
leave the area for at least 10 minutes before they may camp for another two-hour cycle. The time will start
as soon as 1 member of a team arrives and will not reset for other members that come at later times.
19. PHYSICAL CONTACT IS NOT PERMITTED. The object of the game is to shoot the members of the opposing
team, not pummel them. Players cannot hit/strike/push/shove/restrain an opponent under any
circumstances. Inadvertent contact within reason is acceptable, as it is inevitable. Intentional physical
contact will result in disciplinary activity.
20. BREAKING AND ENTERINGAS IN THE REAL WORLDIS NOT ALLOWED. You cannot break into an
opponent's house/apartment/car under any circumstances. In order to get into someone's house, you need to
be let in by someone who either lives there or are invited inside. The same applies for entering cars: you
must be let in by someone who owns/pays for the car or drives the car frequently. Players may enter places
that cannot, and are not inhabited by anyone (e.g. a deserted shed, or building), provided that no damage is
done to the area. Unattached garages or sheds that are owned or on any property of a home may not be
entered unless a person who lives on or owns the property allows you to do so.
21. PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT IS NOT ALLOWED. Parental involvement creates trouble for meI don't want to
deal with that. Parental involvement includes, but is not limited to, a parent voicing a complaint about the
game to me, a parent telling a

player not to shoot, or a parent calling the police when an opponent has not broken the law. If your mom
complains, you can't play that round and will need a parent's permission to continue in the game. DO NOT
INSTIGATE PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT, as doing so will result in YOUR disqualification.
22. PLAYERS CAN BECOME INVINCIBLE IF THEY WEAR A THONG AND ONLY A THONG. If you are in a situation
where you undoubtedly are going to be eliminated, you can save yourself from elimination by removing your
shirt and dropping your pants to reveal a beautiful thong. As long as you are wearing the thong, you cannot
be eliminated. Thongs cannot go over other garments. While invincible, you may not carry your clothes or
shield your body in any way. If while wearing a thong you choose to hold your gun or your clothes you will no
longer be invincible and can be shot. After two minutes, the opposition must vacate the area - this means
leave and come back later, not go across the street and wait till they put their clothes back on. Girls are
permitted to wear bras.
23. SHOOTOUTS. Shootouts occur if, after six days (five days if both teams agree on it) of darting, both
teams still have players who have not been eliminated. "Living" players of both teams agree on a time to
have a final dart war; the locations for the shoot-outs are predetermined (see the bracket link on the
matchups page). Shootouts may take place at any time before 7:30 pm on the seventh day. Both team
captains must inform me via e-mail of the time and date the shootout will take place. IF ONE TEAM DOES
NOT DO THIS, THEY MAY BE FORCED TO FORFEIT THE SHOOTOUT TO THE TEAM THAT SENT THE E-MAIL;
DON'T FORGET. Either team may arrive up to 30 minutes early. Players who get to the shootout early have
the benefit of being able to hide. **The shootout does not begin until the exact time the shootout is
scheduled for.** Any members arriving late cannot join in the shootout. These members will be considered
dead. This means that if one of your members arrives after the shooting begins they will be out. If a member
that is arriving late affects the outcome of the shootout in any way, the instigating team will be disqualified.
If a player cannot make the shootout, the team may substitute a dead teammate, or somebody else if
necessary. Players that are not on the original team can only be subbed in if they were previously
written on the signup/waiver form. Teams must inform their opponents and e-mail
rhsdartwars2016@gmail.com to report any substitutes that are to be made at least two hours prior to the
shootout. If both parties are not notified at least two hours before the scheduled start time, no substitutes
will be allowed. The thong rule will not be in effect during shootouts. You cannot get shot out on a shootout
day except at the shootout. Spectators (excluding dead teammates) are not permitted and may not be
involved in any way during the shootout. Please note: use substitutes from other teams at your own risk.
24. NO CAMOFLAUGE RULE. No camoflauge (army style) clothing of any kind is allowed. This can cause
police or passerby to believe that there is criminal activity taking place and we don't want that. Bodypainting
of any kind is banned as well.
25. DON'T BE OBNOXIOUS. DartWars is for fun, and nobody wants someone who's going to be over the top
ridiculous about it. One thing is taking the game seriously, but it's another thing to get annoying and
obnoxious about it. This can include, but is not limited to, informing grade administrators that someone has a
gun in school instead of consulting the judge in an effort to get them in trouble, standing in front of
someone's car so they can't leave their driveway unless they allow you to shoot them, etc. If you have the
slightest hint that what you're doing is unnecessary and easily avoidable, even if it's not specifically
highlighted in the rules, then just don't do it. Keep the game enjoyable for everyone; after all, that's the
point.

Penalties
* I may assign punishments for rule violations at my discretion
* I reserve the right to disqualify players for being excessively argumentative or annoying
