    process.Materialssuchaskitchenrefuse,biowaste,andcommercialgarbageareidealfor
    combustion.

    MonitorandControl
    Theairstreamrisingtothestackiscontinuouslymonitoredtoensurecompliancewithairquality
    standards.Theentireprocesscanbecontrolledtooptimizeefficiencyinthecombustion,heatand
    steamgeneration,electricalenergy,andenvironmentalcontrolprocesses.

    MaterialProcess
    Wastematerialisreceivedinanenclosedreceivingarea,whereitismorethoroughlymixedin
    preparationforcombustion.Negativeairflowwillcarrydustandodorintothecombustionchamber
    fromthereceivingarea,alongwiththewastetoeliminateitsspreadoutsidethefacility.

    EfficientCombustion
    Mixedwasteentersthecombustionchamberonatimedmovinggrate,whichturnsitoverrepeatedly
    tokeepitexposedandburningthewayturningoverorpokingafireplacelogbrightensthefire.A
    measuredinjectionofoxygenandfumesdrawnfromthereceivingareamakesforamorecomplete
    burn.

    FlyAshCapture
    Althoughflyashiscapturedthroughouttheprocess,thefinestairborneparticulatesareremovedin
    thefilterbaghouse,whereaninductionfandrawsairthroughfabricbagstowardthestackor
    chimney.Thisprocessremoves96percentofanyremainingparticulates.Thebagsarevibratedat
    intervalstoshakelooseparticulatescakedontheirinnerandoutersurfaces.Capturedflyashisoften
    returnedtolandfills.

    AcidGasTreatment
    Theacidiccombustiongassesareneutralizedwithaninjectionoflimeorsodiumhydroxide.The
    chemicalreactionproducesgypsum.Thisprocessremoves94percentofthehydrochloricacid.

    BottomAshRecycling
    Theunburnedremainsofcombustion"bottomash"arepassedbymagnetsandeddycurrent
    separatorstoremovebothferrous(steelandiron)andothermetalssuchascopper,brass,nickel,
    andaluminumforrecycling.Theremainingashcanbeusedasaggregateforroadbedsandrail
    embankments.Ashisgeneratedataratioofabout10percentofthewastesoriginalvolumeand30
    percentofthewastesoriginalweight.

    SteamPowerGeneration
    Highlyefficientsuperheatedsteampowersthesteamturbinegenerator.Thecoolingsteamiscycled
    backintowaterthroughthecondensorordivertedasaheatsourceforbuildingsordesalinization
    plants.Cooledstreamisreheatedintheeconomizerandsuperheatertocompletethesteamcycle.

    MercuryandHeavyMetalCapture
    Activatedcarbon(charcoaltreatedwithoxygentoincreaseitsporosity)isinjectedintothehotgases
    toabsorbandremoveheavymetals,suchasmercuryandcadmium.

    NOXTreatmentDioxins/FuransTreatment

    Nitrogenoxideintherisingburngasesisneutralizedbytheinjectionofammoniaorurea.Dioxins
    andfuransaredestroyedbyexposingfluegasestoasustainedtemperatureof1,562F/850Cfor
    twoseconds.Thisprocessremovesmorethan99percentofdioxinsandfurans.

    ElectricPowerandHeat
    A1,000tonperdayWTEplantproducesenoughelectricityfor15,000households.Eachtonof
    wastecanpowerahouseholdforamonth.Ifcombinedwithacogenerationplantdesign,WTEplants
    can,whileproducingelectricity,alsosupplyheatfornearbybusinesses,desalinationplantsandother
    purposes.
