Business Process Framework (eTOM) R15.0.0

1.Overview of the Evolution in this release (Business

Process Framework (eTOM) Suite Release 15.0.0)
The Business Process Framework (aka eTOM) is the ongoing TM Forum initiative to
deliver a business process model or framework for use by service providers and
others within the Information, Communications and Entertainment industries.

1.1.

Key Driving Forces in this Release

This Release 15.0.0 is a release of the Business Process Framework Suite,
integrated as part of the Frameworx Release 15. It is striving to ensure market
relevance, Strategic Program alliance and internal alignment.
.

1.2.

Document Introduction

1.2.1.

Who is this Document for?

This document is targeted for readers who are already familiar with the content of
previous release. It provides a high level overview of the delta between this release and
former release.

1.2.2.

Where did the Document content come from?

The material is drawn from a repository of information under the guidance of several
Chartered teams within the TM Forum Collaboration system. The team are composed of
TM Forum Members and Staff, and have been assembling this knowledge for several
decades. The particular changes to any one version are the result of strategic debate
within the Membership, and typically address the concerns of the day.

1.3.

Key new features in this Release

This Release15.0.0 is a release of the Business Process Framework Suite, integrated
as part of the Frameworx Release 15, with updates in the following main areas:
o

Continue the development of Domain concept into Business Process

Framework as in other Frameworks

Engaged Party has replaced Supplier/Partner

o

In recent releases work has commenced on the concept of Engaged

Party. We are evolving Frameworx in order for it to reflect the changes
in the digital ecosystem that blends the line between counterparts of
the enterprise. It is increasingly harder to identify entities as Supplier,
Partners and Customer as such and in cases the same entities can

play multiple roles simultaneously. Engaged Party is a generalization

of the earlier concepts that answer this need.

Two new process are decomposed - Party Support and Readiness

and Party Performance Management

In this release we are suppressing the Supplier/Partner domain and

are replacing it with Engaged Party. However the transformation is not
compete:

Two processes in Engaged Party are identified yet not

decomposed - Party Strategy and Planning, Party
Settlements and Payment. They are expected to be
completed in the next release.

Work is also not completed on ensuring that all aspects of the

suppressed content is sufficiently represented in the current
version.

Additions to eTOM from Strategic Programs

Metrics Management

New numbering of the Business Process Framework

o

In recent releases, with the introductions for domains to eTOM

structural changes have occurred. Level one processes have been
obscured by the domains. Also, the CRM area has been divided in to
Market / Sales, Product and Customer. Because of that a significant
number of processes have shifted their location. This progression has
rendered the number scheme in use not reflecting the structure of the
Business Process Framework. Therefore it was decided that a new
numbering will be given to the processes, since the main function of
the numbers is to enable the reader a navigation tool for placing a
specific process in context.

The new number use similar methodology. x.x.x.x.x

1 Model Release Definition

The Business Process Framework (eTOM) Model is represented in an XML file
derived from the tool environment used by the framework Team (Casewise Corporate
Modeler). The intention is to provide the model in as easily consumable as possible,
recognizing the current limitations that apply on interchange of models amongst
process analysis tools generally. This is an evolving picture, but to facilitate open use
of the Business Process Framework Model in a variety of tools, the Framework (i.e.
the process hierarchy as set out in GB912D and GB921DX) is also published in other
formats. These include a structured textual model, captured as an MS Excel
spreadsheet file, and a linked HTML structure that also allows the framework Model
to be explored with normal web browsers.
The Model files provided are:
1. Business Process Framework R15.0 Processes (Excel)
2. Browsable HTML Frameworx R15.0
3. Frameworx R15.0 Model Files XML
4. Frameworx R15.0 Model Files MDB

1 TM Forum Frameworx
The Business Process Framework is one of the key components of the TM Forum
Frameworx. Frameworx enables users to analyze their business operations against
industry processes, applications and information standards. They also provide a
framework to support the procurement, development and implementation of a
comprehensive operations environment. Frameworx may be used as an integrated
system end-to-end or as components to solve particular problems. They can be
applied throughout organizations by operations staff, software developers and system
integrators.
As a significant step forward for its Frameworx, TM Forum has launched the Initiative
to identify common elements and synergies among its core frameworks: Business
Process Framework (eTOM), Information Framework (SID), Application Framework
(TAM) and Integration Framework.
To see how this framework fits in to the complete TM Forum Frameworx release,
kindly refer to the Frameworx Release Note.

4.Known Issues
15.0.0 Release notice
PLEASE NOTE:
Because of the introduction of domains and additional structural changes to the Business
Process Framework, significant amendments to diagrams and text has commenced. It is
expected to be completed in subsequent releases. The interim state may cause
