PREFACE
Dear all
The Arts Council of Mongolia is very pleased to present you with our annual report for 2015.
Here at the ACM we have a tradition of presenting a piece of art on the cover of our annual report. This
years piece is called Hybrid Resistance and was created by the talented artist E. Jantsankhorol. Jantsankhorol
graduated from Hunter College, New York, reaping the benefits of the international experience. He has a unique
talent for identifying new creative ways and forms of art. This is why we are giving him this opportunity to share
his experiences with other young Mongolian artists and students by supporting Jantsankhorol in presenting his
first independent exhibition last December at Zanabazar Fine Arts Museum.
This year the ACM pledges to continue working to support artistic excellence and building the capacity
of artists to promote their work to a wide audience. The ACM also hopes to increase its collaboration with
artists, arts organizations and business companies, to initiate new cultural projects and programs based on the
sustainable development guidelines of the UN.
In 2015, we have managed to not only sustain our ongoing programs but also increase their effectiveness,
even while adding a number of new projects. At the beginning of 2016, we made a major structural change about
which we would like to inform you. It is our pleasure to announce that ACM Founder and Executive Director
Ariunaa Tserenpil, who worked tirelessly for ACM from 2002-2015, has this year become an ACM Advisor and
Board member. Following this, Odgerel Odonchimed, the ACMs Deputy Executive Director from 2003-2015, has
now taken on the role of Executive Director.
One of the major programs at the ACM is our Arts Program. In 2015, the goal of the arts program was
to continue to promote the production of new high-quality art and enhance our international cooperation and
competitiveness. The arts program implemented more than 20 projects, including cultural exchange programs
and training opportunities, reaching more than 500 artists, art managers and 9,000 viewers.
This year, the Community Arts Education Program implemented 8 projects that worked to both improve
public awareness of national and modern art and also support children and youth to access art education. We
gave 15 college and university students full-year or short-term scholarships, 35 school children took part in an
international cultural exchange program, 7 teachers took part in capacity-building training programs and 35
artists and journalists have worked with the program to promote arts education to the public.
Under the Cultural Heritage Program, the ACM strengthened and promoted cultural heritage by improving
the capacities of professional organizations for cultural preservation and protection. For example, we produced
a documentary film about heritage of Zanabazar, the Mongolian Ger and monastery preservation projects and
both carried out training and supplied materials to support museum staff to maintain the museums artifacts and
monuments. The ACM also implemented a series of traditional Mongolian intangible heritage and handcrafts
training for more than 2000 pupils of 60 schools to educate them in their inherited legacy of Mongolian crafts.
In order to sustain ACM and Mongolian Arts and culture ACMs Development Program initiated and
implemented different new and tailor-made art and business events through broadening its partnership with local
and international businesses.
Finally, the ACM would like to thank all the organizations, individuals, partners, friends, members and
volunteers that have generously supported us, and calls on all of us to join hands and continue to work together.
