CHAPTER I

The Problem
A. Introduction:
Water system piping is one of the major applications of
hydraulics.
In water system piping, the designers should be aware of the
factors affecting the flow of the water supply. These factors
include the elevation of the site, the needed outflow depending
on the sites population, the size and length of the pipe and the
water pressure to be maintained within the entire water system.
In this study, the researchers designed a water supply
piping system based on the design standard of the Cabanatuan City
Water District and applied it to Brgy. Ilog Baliwag, Quezon,
Nueva Ecija where there is no existing water supply system at the
present time and mainly uses hand pumps for their water source.
B. Conceptual Framework:
The concept of this study is to design a water supply piping
system for Brgy. Ilog Baliwag, Quezon, Nueva Ecija using its
barangay profile in addition to the basic principles applied by
the Cabanatuan City Water District to the water system of
Cabanatuan City.

C. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:

The study dealt with the design of the water supply piping
system for Brgy. Ilog Baliwag, Quezon, Nueva Ecija. Specifically;
answers to the following questions are sought:
1. What are the design standards used by the Cabanatuan City
Water District on their water supply system, particularly
on the pipe network design?
2. What is the profile of Brgy. Ilog Baliwag and how will it
affect the design of the water supply piping.

3. What is the preliminary design of the water supply piping

for Brgy. Ilog Baliwag, Quezon, Nueva Ecija?
4. What are the adjustment/s on the preliminary designs to
determine the final design of the water supply piping for
Brgy. Ilog Baliwag, Quezon, Nueva Ecija?
D. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY:
The result of the study could be of help to the following:
First, to the students; it could give them a wider knowledge
and perception about designing of water supply piping system,
Second, to the barangay officials of Brgy. Ilog Baliwag; it
could serve as their starting research when they decided to use
water system for the barangay.
Third, to other localities not having water system at the
present time; this could be their guide in the study of the water
system piping design for their localities.

E. SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

The scope of this study is the design of water supply piping
system for Barangay Ilog Baliwag, Quezon, Nueva Ecija. The study

does not cover water tests, and processes other than pipe network
design.

CHAPTER II
METHODOLOGY
A. MATERIALS AND INSTRUMENTS
Computer softwares and applications such as Google earth,
Google map and Water Gem was the main instruments used by the
researchers in this study.
The researchers also conducted an interview with the
Cabanatuan City Water District Engineering Department and the
Officials of Barangay Ilog Baliwag, Quezon, Nueva Ecija for the
information and data to be used for this study.
B. COLLECTION OF DATA
1. The barangay profile of Ilog Baliwag, Quezon, Nueva Ecija
was gathered from an interview with the secretary of the
barangay.
2. The design standard for the water supply piping was gathered
from an interview with the Engineering Department of the
Cabanatuan City Water District.
3. The geographical survey was conducted using Google Earth and
Google map applications.
4. The analysis of the preliminary design of the water supply
piping was conducted using the Water Gem Software of the
Cabanatuan City Water District.
