Designed in the UK, the BT8500 has a modern and stylish design that makes this p

screen has also been specially designed to be large enough for easy text messag

Easy to Use
With the BT8500 you can save up to 200 contacts. All these contacts are automati
cally copied to all of your handsets. You can also see a list of who's called yo
u, who has left a voice message, and then choose which message to listen to firs
t. This phone also comes with Outgoing call control, allowing you to prevent any
surprises on your bill by PIN protecting calls to Mobile, International, Premiu
m Rate numbers, or even all outgoing calls. This can also be useful for elderly
relatives who may generate large call costs unknowingly. Never miss a call with
the Call Waiting feature--the BT8500's screen shows you who's trying to get thro
ugh and, at the press of a button, you can switch to the new call or reject it.
We've also made it easy to divert calls to your mobile or other numbers when you
are away from home. If you want to have a 3-way call the BT8500 helps you get i
t set up in a few simple steps.

Advanced Call Blocking Features

Block by number, type or Do not Disturb. You can block 1000 individual numbers a
nd you can choose the type of calls you want to block such as mobile, internatio
nal, withheld, unknown or payphone numbers. You can even block numbers by area c
ode or suffix. For those times when you just want some peace and quiet, switch o
n Do Not Disturb so that your phone won't ring or light up. If you want key frie
nds and family to still get through they can do, by tagging them as VIPs in your
address book.
The built-in answer machine can store up to 60 minutes of messages.

clearly on the home screen. Record your own greeting or choose one of ours. Lis

This has been my purchase of the year. If like me you are plagued with countless
cold calls, then this phone is the phone for you. I sometimes get the feeling t
hat I may get arrested with the way I deal with cold callers, especially the one
s telling me there is a problem with my windows computer. My threats to hunt the
m down and eat their face might be a little too extreme. I was also getting tire
d of the phone ringing, which is why when our old phones stopped working I decid
ed to give this model a try.
In terms of price this twin pack / answering machine combo offers fantastic valu
e for money. The sound quality is crystal clear, the ease of set up is amazing,
unlike other twin sets you DO NOT have to add your contacts to both phones, the
handsets talk to each other and update any contact added to both phones automati
cally.
You can also assign different ring tones to each number, there are 15 to choose
from, that way you don't even have to get out of your chair when the mother in l
aw phones.
If this was ll that this phone offered it would still be great value, but where
the phone excels is how it deals with number withheld numbers and unrecognized n
umbers.
Whenever you receive a call from a number that is either withheld, or not on the
phones authorized list, it doesn't automatically ring to signal you have a call
. What it does is give the caller a message along the lines of
" the number isn't approved, and it is being monitored by BT, please leave your
name and we will forward the call to the owner."
The phone then rings your handsets and lets you know who is calling. You then ha
ve the option to accept or reject the call. You also have the option to permanen
tly allow or block calls from that number.Read more

The concept behind this kit is fantastic. We were being plagued with calls - aut
omated recordings and real people - trying to persuade us to claim for PIP mis-s
elling, can accidents and other disasters we had never experienced. Then there w
ere "just doing a survey" calls which ended with sales pitches (not that we let
them get to the end after the first one) and the "Your Windows computer has a vi
rus". The most recent marketing seems to be claims for noise induced hearing los
s.
The settings for "Call Guardian" on this phone are user configurable, The basic
settings, however, do the job. You need caller ID for it to work. If the number
of the caller is in your list of stored contacts, the call comes straight throug
h. If it isn't, the call is taken by the equipment. The caller is told that "Cal
ls to the number are being monitored by BT Call Guardian. Please state your name
and then press the hash key".
If the caller rings off, or says nothing, Call Guardian drops the line. You don t
even know it has happened, unless you check the "Calls" list to see how many hav
e been intercepted in this way.
If the caller states a name and then presses "hash", your phone rings. You can a
llocate a different ring tone to Call Guardian calls to distinguish them from co
ntacts who are getting through. When you answer, Call Guardian announces the nam
e of the caller. You then have four options - accept the call, reject the call,
always accept calls from that number, or pass the call through to the answerphon
e.
As an additional feature, there is a "Do Not Disturb" setting. This can be "on",
"Off" or "Timed". We have ours "timed" - 10pm to 10am.Read more

These phones do exactly what they are supposed to do and that is screen calls fr
om people you may not want to speak to while giving genuine callers the opportun
ity to speak thier name and then press a key on thier own handsets. If this key
press is not made after giving the caller 2 chances the call is not put through.
The need for the key press stops those pre-recorded calls.
Unlike some call screening devices this unit does give the genuine anonymous cal
ler the opportunity to be connected (eg my doctors who always withold thier numb
er).
Genuine callers would normally follow the instructions and after that you can ad
d thier numbers to the BT 8500's phone book or the allowed list so that in futur
e they are connected without the screening process. You can also add numbers to
your phone book before any calls are placed so that caller is never screened. Eg
I just popped my Mums number in the phone book and, to her, ours is just a norm
al phone.
There are other options for VIPs who can contact you at any time while the BT 85
00 can be set up to refuse all calls made between certain hours. Maybe daytime f
or night workers or more usually night time for the rest of us.
If a call comes through from a person that you don't want to be bothered with in
future it is a simple matter to block that number for all future calls.
All calls wether they are connected or not are stored on the handsets for future
reference so you can see the numbers that have called you including the ones th
at never made it through the screening process. Obviously the number is not show
n for an anonymous number but the call is still logged on the handset as "withel
