A Note From Pastor Luke . . .

What Makes Christianity Different?
There are a countless number of
religions on earth today. In Hinduism,
depending on the source, there are as
many as 330 million gods. How is
Christianity any different from all the
other religions? Proverbs 20:9 gives
us some insight into a valid separation,
Who can say, I have made my heart
clean, I am pure from my sin?
Christianity handles sin differently from
every other religion out there. Some
religions attempt to imply that sin is
erased over time, or that by doing good
works the scales are made even. Others
do not even mention sin, but instead
focus on mans good nature, and that
nothing is sinful, but just another form
of goodness. In Christianity sin is dealt
with and removed from the individual.
Mankinds sinfulness must be dealt
with, it must be acknowledged. Many
religions offer some sort of paradise, or
heaven. They say that a person must
be good to go there, but because of
sin, no one is good, or worthy of going
to heaven; this is where Christianity
shines. Jesus Christ, being perfect and
having never sinned, became the
perfect sacrifice.
He took the
punishment for our individual sins on
the Cross. Christs sacrifice made it
possible for anyone who repents, and
proclaims Jesus as Lord to be able to be
granted forgiveness and go to heaven.
Next time someone tells you
that Christianity is just a way to
heaven, know that it is the only
way to heaven.

the Bible itself that dictates what each sermon
should be about. The preacher should approach

Word of God to take priority in his preparation.

One ofthemost spectacular aspects topreach
ingisthattheHolySpiritworksthroughpreaching.
FaithissomethingthatisgivenbyGod,butatthe
same time, faith comes through hearing (Romans
10:17, 12:3). This means that a sermon is not
made effective because of the preachers whit or
clever illustrations, but by the Spirit of God who
uses the preacher as the instrument to communi
cate truth. This humbles the preacher, reminding
him that he is only a messenger and that the real
glorygoestotheOnewhochangeshearts.
Next time you listen to a sermon, ask yourself
thesequestions:
1. WastheWordofGodproclaimed?
2. Did the preacher explain the text or did he
promotehisownideas?
3. Did you come expecting the Holy Spirit to
workthroughthepreachingofGodsWord?
