ABOUT THE COURSE

This course attempts to answer the many questions in an electrical engineers mind by describing the
various concepts of power system protection. The scope includes all the main components and types of
protection schemes. The course also describes practical protection schemes. This course is intended for
consulting, design, operation and maintenance engineers responsible for medium and high voltage
transmission, distribution, industrial and commercial power systems. Participants are expected to have a
basic knowledge of power system practices.
PROFILE OF SPEAKER
Ir. Lee Chong Kiow, M.Sc. Power System Eng, B.Sc. (Hons) Elect. Eng, P Eng, C Eng, FIEM, MIEE
Ir. Lee Chong Kiow is currently the Director of VI Power, which specializes in providing performing system
studies and technical training of electrical applications. A 1974 Electrical Engineering Student graduate from
Strathclyde University, Glasgow, he has more than forty years of experience in the power engineering
industry. He was previously the engineering manager of Tamco Corporate Holdings Sdn Bhd, which
manufactures indoor-medium and low-voltage switchgear. Prior to that, he spent another five years in a
large consultancy practice and more than 16 years working as a protection engineer in the former National
Electricity Board. He is also a Professional Engineer, Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia and
Suruhanjaya Tenaga Certified Competent/Services Engineer up to 275kV.
Over the last 15 years, he has trained more than four thousand participants throughout Malaysia, South East
Asia, China, India, Oman and several African countries on Power System Protection, Applications, Operation
& Maintenance of Electrical Equipment, Basic Electricity, Commissioning of Power Transformers, Protection
and Starting of Induction Motors, Medium and Low Voltage Switchgear, Electrical Safety and Electrical
System studies.
