ART APPRECIATION

This course is designed to help the student find their personal meaning in works of art and develop a better understanding of
the nature and validity of art. Emphasis is placed on the diversity of forms and content of original work of arts. Understanding,
appreciation and perception of the elements are studied in paintings, sculptures and literature. Self-expression is stressed as
the student is introduced to art experience.
54 hours/ 18 weeks

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
1. Be familiarized with the fundamentals of art through the elements and principles.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the formal elements of art and principles of design.
3. Recognize historical works of art, knowing some of the history, purpose and the role of work.
4. Evaluate a range of subject matter, symbols, concepts in relation to history and cultures.
5. Appreciate art as an expression of the human condition.
