THROTTLE CONTROL/GOVERNORS
There are two types of engine governors that are used with throttle controls. The engine
governors are:
The Automotive Limiting Speed Governor (ALSG) for torque control, typical governor for
on-highway applications(refer to section 5.12.1)
The Power Take-off (PTO) for speed control, typical variable speed governor (VSG) for
off-highway applications (refer to section 5.12.2)
5.12.1
In on-highway applications and some nonroad applications, ALSG is the primary throttle source.
The throttle input in a ALSG sets percent load. The amount of fuel input to the engine is
determined by the throttle position. As the load on the engine varies the resulting engine speed
will vary between idle speed and rated speed.

An Idle Validation Switch is required and uses two digital inputs. Refer to section 4.2, "Digital
Inputs," for additional information.
5.12.2
POWER TAKE-OFF
PTO control is available to fuel the engine in order to keep the selected PTO speed regardless of
engine torque without driver interaction. The engine torque cannot exceed a programmed limit.
Upon startup the engine will go to the speed selected by the PTO throttle position.
The PTO throttle control options are:
Cab PTO Cruise Switch PTO
Remote PTO
Analog PTO

NOTE:
Software version Rel. 12.0 or later, the park brake function could be enabled/disabled
and the logic for the park brake may be inverted.
See Figure 5-18 for a diagram of PTO logic.

Installation
The Remote PTO Switch is wired to pin 18/10 of the VCU/ADM2FR. See Figure 5-21.
Figure 5-21
Analog PTO
A Remote Accelerator Pedal can be installed to control either an analog Remote PTO (VSG) or
analog Remote Accelerator Pedal (ALSG).
The Remote PTO will start when the Remote PTO switch is switched to battery ground. The
Remote PTO logic will override the Cab PTO. Cab throttle and remote throttle are also overridden
unless PTO Throttle Override is disabled. When ALSG operation is required, the Remote
Accelerator Switch is switched to battery ground.
The Remote Accelerator Switch Select input (VCU, 18/7) determines the active throttle control.
When this pin is grounded, the engine will respond to the remote throttle input. When this input is
not grounded, the engine will respond to the cab throttle pedal.
The PTO Enable input (VCU, 18/10) determines if the engine will be in VSG or ALSG mode.
If remote PTO is active and then disabled due to one or more disabling condition, PTO mode will
automatically reactivate when the disabling condition is removed.
