Q-1. A SERIES RLC CIRCUIT RESONATES AT FREQUENCY 1400HZ AND CONSUMES 60W POWER
FOR 55V AC SOURCE AT RESONATE FREQUENCY. THE BANDWIDTH IS .85KHZ. NOW CALCULATE
R,L,C.
SOL:-GIVEN
Fresonance=1400HZ, P=60W ,V=55V, BW=0.85KHZ
as we know:R=V2 /P=552/60=50.42
now,
*R/2L=BW
L=

1/ *R/2*(1/BW)=50.42/(3.14*2*850)=9.44*10-3
RESONATE FREQUENCY
FR=

1/ *1/2*(1/(LC)1/2)
SO CALCULATING C BY USING ABOVE RELATION ,WE HAVE.....
C=1/(4*3.142*14002*9.44*10-3)=1.37*10-6

SOL:(A) Z0=Q*XCO=100*100/10=1000 ohm

the current I0=V/Z0=10/1000=10mA
CURRENT THROUGH CAPACITOR BRANCH
IC=10/-J100=J100mA
IL=10/j100=-j100mA
The supply current is 10mA which supplies the losses of the parallel resonant circuit.The input
power from the source is10*10=100mW
If however ,the frequency is reduced to F0/2 the inductive reactance between 50ohm and
capacitor 200ohm
The net impedence =(10+j50)(-j200)/10-j150
=68.8<750
The current i=10<-750/68.8=0.145<-750

(b)If the circuit is connected across 200v 100 hz ac source ,determine the power
delievered to the coil.
(c) The voltage across the capacitor and the coil .
(d).The bandwidth of the cirrcuit,
SOL:W0=1/(LC)1/2

*2*100=1/(50*10-6*L)1/2
L=25/500=50mH
the current at resonance =200/5=40A
Therefore,power dissipated 402*5=8000watts =8kW
voltage across capacitor =IXc
=40/(50*10-6*100*6.28)
=8000/6.28
The impedence of the coil R+jW0L=5+J628*50*10-3
the voltage

VL=40(5+j31.4)

The Q0 of the coil

The bandwidth

Determine:(1).The frequency of resonance

(2).Q of the circuit
(3).Q of coil 1 and coil 2 individually
Sol:Total inductance of the circuit 25+15=40mH
Total capicitance of the circuit =6*12/18=4*10-6f
Total frequency of resonance=

(1/ ) *(1/2)*(1/160*10-9)1/2=104/8* (1/3.14) OR W =2.5*103 rad/sec

Q for the circuit= W0*Leq/Req=2.5*103*40*10-3/2.5=40

Q for coil 1= W0*L1/R1 = 2.5*103*25*10-3/0.5=125
Q for coil 2 =W0*L2/R2 = 2.5*103*15*10-3/1.5=25

Q.5:- FOR THE SERIES RESONANT CIRCUIT IN FIG,CALCULATE I AT RESONANCE .WHAT ARE THE
VOLTAGES ACROSS THE THREE SERIES COMPONENETS R,L AND C.CALCULATE Q.IF THE
RESONATE FREQUENCY IS 6000 Hz .FIND THE BAND-WIDTH.WHAT ARE THE HALF-POWER

SOL:At the resonate frequency, Z=R.

Imax=20<00/4 = 5<00
VR =ImaxR =5<00*4 ohm

VR =20<00 V
VL = ImaxXL = 5<200<900
VL = 100<900 V
Vc = 100<-900 V
Q = XL /R=20/4 = 5
Bandwidth = Resonate frequency /Q factor
BW = 6000/5 = 1200Hz
now half frequencies
f1 = 6000+600 = 6600Hz
f2 = 6000-600 = 5400Hz
Pmax =(Imax)2*R

At the half-power frequencies f1 and f2 ;
P half-power = (1/2)* Pmax = 50 W
Q.6- A SERIES CIRCUIT CONSISTING OF A COIL (R=20ohm,L=O.4H) .AND THE CONDESOR
RESONATES AT A FREQUENCY OF 52CYC/SEC CALAULATE THE CAPACITANCE OF THE CAPACITOR
WHICH WILL INCREASE THE RESONANCE FREQUENCY TO 64 CYC/SEC WHEN CONNECTED IN
PARALLEL WITH THE CIRCUIT . CALCULATE IN THE LATER CASE THE TOTAL CURRENT AND
CURRENT IN EACH BRANCH OF THE CIRCUIT IF THE THE LINE VOLTAGE IS 110 V.

SOL:The circuit is shown below-

I1

0.4 H

20 ohm

23.443 F

I2

AC

110 v

when the series circuit is resonant at the frequency 52 cyc/sec then X L= XC

WL =( 1/WC1)
C1 = 1/W2*L = 1/(4*(3.14)2*f2*L)
f = 52
l = 0.4
putting the value
C1 = 23.443 * 10-6 F
When the frequency of the resonance becomes 64 cps then
XL = 2*3.14 *64*0.4 = 160.77 ohm

XC1 = 1/(2*3.14*60*23.443*10-6) = 106.132 ohm

net reactance is =

XL -XC = 160.77 -106.132 = 54.64 ohm

Z = (202+ 54.642)1/2 = 58.18 ohm

I1 = 110/58.18 = 1.89 A
I2 = 110/XC2 = 110*2*3.14*64*C
Resonance occurs when I2 equals I1sin( )
hence =1.89*(X/Z) = 110*2*3.14*64*C
OR 1.89*(54.68/58.18) = 110 *2*3.14*64*C
SO C = 40.15*10-6 F
Total current ,
I = I1 COS ( ) = 1.89 *(20/58.18) = 0.65 A
I2 = I1sin( ) = 1.89* (54.64/58.18) = 1.77 A
