anddeath,willgiveonebeautyandwealth,givesfameandacontinuationofone'sdynasty,kingship,lordship,givessons,grandsons,wealth,

knownasSudarshana,aShilawithtwoChakrasisLakshmiNarayana,andonewiththreeChakrasisTrivikrama.TheShilamarkedwithfour
ChakrasisJanardana,withfiveChakrasisVasudeva,withsixChakrasisPradyumna,andwithsevenChakrasisBaladeva.Theonethathaseight
ChakrasiscalledPurushottama,withnineChakrasNavavyuha,withtenChakrasisDashmurti,andwithelevenChakrasisAniruddha.That
DwarakaShilawithtwelveChakrasisDvadasatmaka,andonewithmorethantwelveChakrasisknownasAnanta.TheshapeoftheDwarkaShila
alsodeterminesthetypeoftheShila.
BenefitsofDifferentTypesofDwarakaShilasTheKapilaPancaratraexplainsthebenefitsofworshipingdifferenttypesofDwaraka
Shilas.ThatcharmingshilaknownasSudarsana,whichhasoneChakraonit,givesoneliberation.TheLakshmiNarayanaDvarakaShilawithtwo
Chakrasgivesopulenceandliberation,andanAcyutaShilawiththreeChakrasgivesonerespectequaltoLordIndra.TheShilaknownas
ChaturbhujawithfourChakrasbringsreligiousthinking,economicdevelopment,enjoyment,andliberation.AVasudevaShila,Whichhasfive
Chakras,willremovethefearofbirthanddeath,andaPradyumnaShilawithsixChakraswillgiveonebeautyandwealth.
TheonecalledBalabhadraShilawithsevenChakrasgivesfameandacontinuationofone'sdynasty,whileaPurushottamaShilawith
eightChakrasgivesalltypesofbenedictions.WithnineChakras,aNarasimhadevaShilagivesthehighestbenefits,andaDashavataraDwaraka
ShilawithtenChakrasgiveskingship.
AnAniruddhaShila,whichhaselevenChakras,givefameandlordship,andtheoneknownasDwadasatmakashilawithtwelveChakras
givesliberationandhappiness.TheKapilaPancaratraalsodescribesthatthewhiteShilagivessons,grandsons,wealth,power,andalltypesof
happiness,sothistypeofShilashouldbeadored.GargaandGalavaRishishavestatedthataDwarkaShilaswithuniformChakrasbrings
happiness,atwelveormoreChakraShilaisveryauspicious,androundandsquareshilasgivehappiness.
WorshipingShaligramaShilawithDwarakaShilaTheBrahmaPuranastatesthatwhereverShalagramaShilaandDvarakaShilasittingtogether
areworshipped,certainlysalavationormuktiresidesthere.IntheconversationbetweenBrahmaandNaradaintheSkandaPuranaBrahmasays,
"OMunishvara!WhereverDwarakaShilasitsinfrontoftheShalagramaShilaeveryclassofopulencegoesonincreasingunlimitedly."Inanother
placeitsaysthatonewhodailyworshipsDvarakaShilaalongwithtwelveShalagramaShilawillbehonoredeveninVaikunthadhama.
ItwasmentionedearlierthatintheVaishnavatradition,theworshipoftheDvararvatistone(obtainedfromtheGomatiriverinDvaraka)along
withthesalagramastoneisconsideredmeritorious,forthelattervarietyofstonesarespecialformsassumedbyKrishnahimself.
ThechakramarkisthemostdistinguishingfeatureoftheDvarvatistones,andhencetheyarecalledchakrankitasila.AccordingtoGaruda
purana,therearetwelvevarietiesofthisstone,owingtothenumberofchakras,coloursandforms(dasadhachaprabhinnastavarnakrti
vibhedatah).Whenthereisonlyonechakra,thestoneiscalledDevesawhentherearetwochakras,itisSudarshanathreechakrasrepresentthe
deityAnanta.
Whentherearefourchakras,thestoneisJanardana.Vasudevaisrepresentedbythestonehavingfivechakras,Pradyumnabysixchakras,Bala
bhadrabyseven,Purushottamabyeight,Navavyuhabynine,Dasavatarabyten,AniruddhabyelevenandDvadastmabytwelve.Navavyuha
representsthecollectionofnineformsofVishnu:Vasudeva,Samkarshana,Pradyumna,Aniruddha,Narayana,Hayagriva,Vishnu,Nrsimhaand
Varaha.Thefirstfourformsarewellknownaschaturvyuha.ThetwelvemajorformsofVishnuarederivedfromthesenineforms,accordingto
theTantrasiddhantadivisionofPancharatra.
ThetextalsoindicatesthespecificrewardsforworshippingeachofthesetwelvevarietiesofDvaravatisilas:1)and2)salvation3)freedomfrom
thefearofbirthsanddeaths4)fulfillmentofdesires5)obtainmentofprosperityandeliminationofenemies6)wealthandlustre7)
continuationofprogenyandcelebrity8)satisfactionofallthatoneaspiresfor9)rewardswhicharedifficultevenforthegodstoobtain10)
sovereigntyandprosperity11)lordshipand12)finalemancipation.Thestoneshavingmorechakrasfulfillwhateveronelongsfor,when
worshipped.
Prahladasamhita,quotedinSalagramapariksha(byAnupasimha)givesthefirstfewnamesdifferently.TheDvaravatisilawithonlyone
chakraiscalledSudarsana,withtwochakrasLakshminarayanaandwiththreeTrivikrama.Therestofthenamesarethesameasgivenabove.The
nameAnantaisgiventostoneshavemorethantwelvechakras.ThenameforDasavataraintheabovelistisgivenhereasDasamurti.
Whenthechakrasaremorethantwelve,onlyevennumberedchakrasaretobepreferred,accordingtoGalavasmrtir.
TheDvaravatisilaalsooccursindifferentcolours,butwhitestonesareconsideredmostsuitableforworship.Thedark(blueblack)stones
forebodedeath,thetawnyonescauseanxiety,themulticolouredonesbringaboutdiseaseandsorrow,theyellowonestakeawaywealth,the
smokecolouredonesproducelossofwealth,andthebluestoneswillbringaboutobstaclestoanyundertaking.Onlythewhitecolouredstones
willmakeforaworldlyprosperityinallaspectsandspiritualwelfare(Skandapurana).Garudapuranagivesaslightlydifferentaccount,butwhite
isthepreferredcolour.AccordingtoGalavasmrti,theDvaravatistonesareauspiciousiftheyareroundinshapeorsquare.
