SF6 insulated test transformers are especially designed for testing metal-clad switchgear (GIS) in
the factory and on-site, and for testing on-site substation equipment. The conventional
transformers can be flanged directly to the GIS. This makes testing of such GIS installations
possible without feeding them through an air-SF6 bushing. Therefore, the merits of the
encapsulation remains effective also during the testing which is of importance for Partial
Discharge tests. These systems are particularly suited for on-site tests of GIS after assembly. In
the factory, they allow to test sub-assemblies and components directly in the manufacturing line,
thus avoiding transportation to a central test facility, and extra handling.

Small and compact dimensions resulting in minimum space requirements

Light-weight components
Rugged construction to withstand transportation stresses
Direct flanging to the test object
High safety for operating personnel because of encapsulation of all HV carrying parts
Large range of application in conjunction with test bushing for testing of open equipment
Built-in HV measuring capacitor

4XDOLW\
Haefely quality assurance complies with ISO 9001. The
electronic measurement and control devices are designed and
manufactured in-house. Our many years of experience in
dealing with EMC is therefore an important asset.
The design of the test system complies with the VDE 0104
standard for optimal protection of the operating personnel. The
test system is shut-down in case of over-voltage, over-current
and fast voltage transients. Damage at the fault is minimised.

The encapsulated test transformer TES is a conventional transformer and steps-up the voltage
coming from the regulating transformer. The controls act on the regulating transformer to adjust
precisely the input voltage of the TES and thus the test voltage. A compensating reactor KDL is
connected between the regulating and the test transformers and compensates the capacitive
power required for the test object. This way, the STL and power line filter ratings can be kept
small.
For on-site tests, the controls (relay technique & push buttons) are integrated into the regulating
transformer rack. The latter transformer is dimensioned to avoid a separate compensation
reactor. This gives a most compact equipment with a minimum number of components to be
transported and connected for testing.

air insulated and built into a cubicle. The primary winding is
galvanically separated from the secondary winding. The driving
motor allows a slow and a fast regulating speed (40-240 s from

operator to start always from zero.
The primary breaker and secondary contactor are placed in the

For storage and transportation of the AC test system test system including the high voltage
transformer TES. If possible, the container is subdivided by a partition in a "control room" and a
"storage room". If not enough space is available, a separate container serves as control room.
The regulating transformer TKMT with controls is installed inside the control room. The feeding
voltage is transferred via special cables to the HV transformer. A desk with drawers can also be
installed in the control room, which is lighted. Provision for a safety circuit connection is given.
The container is usually equipped with a power distribution panel, including protection system and
main circuit breaker. An opening is provided for the power and control cables which can be
closed with a hinged door. All pieces of equipment are earthed at a central point, accessible from
the outside of the container.
The test transformer, eventual bushing with HV electrode as well as base frames are arranged
inside the storage room / container. These elements are secured by adapted fastenings during
transportation. Haefely uses the following standard steel container which are specially
customised for the test equipment arrangement. A special double component paint, standard
light grey RAL 9002, is used and the centre of gravity is clearly indicated. They can be
transported by ship, train and lorry.

This generator allows to test GIS with oscillating switching impulses (OSI). It is fully independent
from the AC components of the whole test system. It generates an OSI impulse of a few kV
which is amplified by the test transformer TES itself.
The system charges a bank of impulse capacitors which are discharged through the TES
windings. The DMI 551 Imp (with options DC and Imp), with a special software displays the
charging and the OSI test voltages. The OSI measurement signal is taken from the secondary
part on the TES transformer.

Haefely Test AG has a dedicated Technical Services dept. with an experienced team of
engineers doing the internal tests as well as the commissioning on-site and final testing of the
test installations. Our Technical Services dept. does also preventive maintenance, repairs and
calibrations if required. This responsive team allows to minimise eventual down-times and
assures the shortest possible reaction time should any question arise.
The full coverage of the warranty is granted only if Haefely Test AG has carried out the Technical
Services. The charges for the delegation of our personnel are based on the terms and conditions
of the Swiss Association of Machinery Manufacturers.
,QVWDOODWLRQ
Big installations require our experienced team of mechanical erectors for supervising the
assembly the test systems.

6\VWHPDQG$FFHSWDQFH7HVWVRQ6LWH
Once the system is erected, we delegate our engineers for doing the systems tests at the
customers. The system test shall proof that the system works according to the specification at
customers site and gives a first training to the operating staff.
These tests can also be done with a real test object.
7UDLQLQJRI2SHUDWLQJ3HUVRQQHO
The training is carried out by the Haefely senior engineer immediately after the systems tests.
Detailed explanations about the use of the system, controls and measuring instruments are
given, in addition to the operating manuals.
3UHYHQWLYH0DLQWHQDQFH 6HUYLFHYLVLWV
Haefely Test AG can offer a regular service & maintenance visit on-site for checking the system
condition & proposing necessary works. This is particularly appreciated for production line
equipment.
This visit can also be combined with the system re-calibration.

By adding a coupling quadripole (option), the encapsulated coupling capacitor type KKS can be
used for measuring partial discharges. Various coupling quadripoles can be used. Digital or
analogue PD detectors can then be used depending of the customers needs. Please consult the
Tettex General Catalogue for more information.

The encapsulated standard capacitors type NKS are used in conjunction with C and tan bridges
for measuring capacitance and tan values. Digital or analogue bridges can then be used
depending of the customers needs. For more details, see the Tettex General Catalogue.
