Health Education Specialist (Research Project)
 Perform substance abuse evaluations with patients with positive screens for alcohol,
tobacco, and other drugs in the Emergency Department.
 Conduct face-to-face comprehensive assessments to identify level of substance use ‘risk’
and service needs; and refer to inpatient or outpatient treatment resources.
 Perform brief interventions and brief therapy using Motivational Interviewing as therapy
for patients with moderate to high substance use. Provide diagnostic write up for doctors
and treatment team. This is a research project funded by SAMHSA.

 Provide direct case management to populations dealing with addiction and mental illness
