Alternative energy

It is a fact universally acknowledged that our coal and oil resources are not unlimited, reason
for which it is vitally important to look for other alternatives to generate energy. It has recently
been suggested byDr Symonds that nuclear power is the best way to produce such desired
energy, however, this is a highly dubious proposition.
Firstly, the cost of producing nuclear energy is ridiculously expensive and in fact, totally
unaffordable for developing countries. It would be infinitely preferable for scientists like Dr
Symonds to take the economic factor into consideration and to suggest more realistic ideas
on how to solve the lack of fuel problem.
Secondly, the statement that nuclear energy is environmentally friendly, which was propose
by Dr Symonds in a seminar n 12th June, is not entirely true. There is plenty of evidence that
the radioactive waste produced y nuclear plants is actually a much worse polluter than CFCs
and exhaust fumes.
In addition to what has already been mentioned, I would like to point out that nuclear energy
and radioactive waste are not completly safe. There is no need to recall the tragic incidents in
Japan in which after an accident in a nuclear plant, a whole town was to suffer the lethal
consequences of radioactivity, such as infertility, malformations and even death by
poisoning. To make things even worse, the pollutants produced by nuclear plants are thrown
into the ocean and this, far from being "environmentally friendly", will have cataclysmic
effects on the planet in the not so distant future.
To sum up, it is clear that the use of nuclear power has more than a few drawbacks, not only
is it highly expensive but it is also dangerous both for people and the planet. Therefore, other
forms of safer and more affordable energy must be pursued by the government and the
scientific community.
Music is something that we perhaps take for granted in our daily lives, particularly when it
exists in the form of background music in public places or advertising jingles, and with the
huge availability of downloadable music, we have ready access to whatever we desire.
however do we as a society take music of seriously as we would? professional musicians are
highly skilled individuals, yet many of them struggle to find regular work and their talent is
seldom recognized. in most countries they receive no state support and ,any are forced to
abandon a career in music all together. music has been downgraded in importance in our
schools and is often the first subject to be withdrawn from the curriculum, with more and
more emphasis placed on core subjects. yet research has shown that those who learn music
from a young age benefit in different ways. music lessons are creative and engage children in
a collaborative activity that has a real outcome. Music has always played a significant role in
people lives. At all times it has been regarded as hope and joy. But the reality is that we dont
appreciate it as much as we should. Therefore the main aim of this essay is to assess the
importance of music and to determine its role in society.
Most people underestimate the significance of music. Firstly, people tend to regard it as a less
important part of school curriculum than other subjects. At the same time children who learn
music at the young age benefit by further study. Secondly, the quality of modern performance
has deteriorated. To prove that it can be said that nowadays the best-known singers, usually
not highly-skilled, earn a great deal, while the earnings of gifted musicians dont always
reflect their talent.
This is not to say that music offers many benefits. Considering the advantages of listening to
music, its clear that its both relaxing and enjoyable. In addition, music may have a beneficial
effect on emotions and provide positive energy. Many facts have been recorded when music
saved people from death, encouraging them to believe in their own strength and giving them
confidence in recovery. Ive heard of a case when a girl in one of the cities in America lapsed
into a coma and she woke up after some time of listening to her favorite singer, whose songs
had been used by her parents to support her. Doctors still cannot explain the effect which
music had on this girl.

Furthermore, music can reflect the culture and history of a country. Each nation has its own
music flow, which represents the character of the people. From this point of view music can be
considered as a universal language, which is understandable for everyone.
Summing it up, music is definitely one of the most significant things in our life. Its the
language of our soul, the inner voice that helps us to find our unique social niche. Our life
would be empty without it; therefore this is the treasure to be taken care of.

Zoos are an unsuitable environment for wild animals and should, therefore, be abolished.
Firstly, zoo animals are kept in a very confined area compared with their vast natural habitat.
Secondly, breeding programmes are far less successful than zoos claim. Thirdly, zoo animals
are exposed to many diseases and other dangers.
Zoo animals are usually kept in very cramped enclosures and do not behave like their wild
counterparts. Polar bears, for example, are given about 10 metres of walking space whereas
in their Arctic home they roam for many hundreds of kilometres. Similarly, primates, big cats
and birds are often confined in cages where they lack exercise and stimulation. Many animals
develop unnatural habits such as pacing back and forth or swaying from side to side.
Supporters of zoos argue that they help to conserve endangered species, but in fact they are
not very good at this. Even the world famous panda breeding programme has been very
costly and unsuccessful. Also, zoo life does not prepare animals for the challenges of life in
the wild. For example, two rare lynxes released into the wild in Colorado died from starvation
even though the area was full of hares, which are a lynxs natural prey.
The zoo is an unnatural environment that exposes animals to numerous dangers. Diseases
often spread between species that would never live together naturally. For example, many
Asian elephants have died in US zoos after catching herpes from African elephants.
Furthermore, zoo animals are often exposed to chemicals, solvents and other toxic
substances. Finally, it is common for visitors to tease and provoke caged animals.
In conclusion, therefore, it is not true to say that zoos are educational or that they help to
protect endangered species. In reality, they only teach us how wild animals behave when they
are confined in small spaces. Breeding programmes provide zoos with good publicity, but in
fact most of them are failures. Finally, zoo animals are probably more at risk of dying from
disease or poisoning than their wild counterparts. It is time that we abolished these cruel
institutions!
