Duration : 20 mins
Internal Surveyor : Capt. Sagar
External Surveyor : Capt. Sood
Captain Sood started off with my previous remarks, cleared all of them.
He asked about cards, putting vessels on port/ stbd bow
of my vessel, answered all correctly.
Action on sighting an isophase light flashing 10 s? (Safe water mark)
Action on sighting quick flashing light? (North Cardinal bouy)
Why gyro fails on poles? No directive force
Asked me type on gyro on last vessel? Sperry
Which type is it? Dampled in tilt
Wht errors you expect in this kind of gyro? Latitude error, CLSE
How much time gyro takes to settle? max 6 hrs (performance standard), onboard 2-3 hrs
Question on max speed gyro operates normally. I said i could not find the answer in performance standards. He
replied answer is 35 kts. (Noted!)
Maintainence of magnetic compass? I said a few points, then he said also no bubble.
How will you locate centre of TRS?
Action if you are in dangerous quadrant? (North Hemisphere)
Weather, isobars, clouds associated with TRS?

All i can say that if your play your cards right, he will give you function 1 without hesitation. He will not go in
details specially in gyro / magnetism. Very helpful surveyor, makes you comfortable.

Function: 1
Attempt: 2nd.
Internal Surveyor: Capt. Sagar
External Surveyor: Capt. Sood
Result: Pass
Capt. Sagar asked me whether I have cleared my writtens? Which attempt? What ships I have worked on? He
then passed my file to Capt. Sood who started with my previous remarks (Tides and action in RV).
1. What about tides couldnt you answer? I told him I couldnt explain well enough about Spring and Neap tides.
So he asked me to tell him about Spring and Neap tides only.
2. Which R/V situation did you go wrong last time? I told him which one. He asked me what action you will take
in that situation. I gave him the answer. He cleared my previous remarks.
3. 5 or 6 ROR cards placed in front of ships model and sometimes 2 points on starboard bow. North Cardinal
Buoy.
4. Briefly explain Damping error and Steaming error.
5. How do winds change in TRS in the dangerous and navigable semicircle. Draw and show.
6. On which course in CLSE maximum.
7. Performance standards of gyro. Any 2.

10. Why no bergs are coming out of Europe?
11. What type of emergency steering did you have on your last vessel?
Was impressed in just 11 questions and didnt go any further. Put 7/10 in my file and passed it on to Capt.
