Using what you have learned from the previous tutorials,

this time draw this four-leaf clover. Plant the points and pull
out control handles, move them around, add a few points,
delete a few points...give it your best shot. Remember your
keyboard shortcuts. While you are drawing the path you
can reposition points and control handles, then continue
with the path. If you get lost and find yourself no longer
adding to the path, select the Pen Tool, click once on the
last point in the path, then continue. You will know when
you are directly over the last point in the path because the
pen cursor changes to a crosshair with a slash next to it:

After you close the path, you can make adjustments to

individual points with the Direct Selection Tool. Following
are a few tips...have fun!
One more thing...press Ctrl-Y (Windows) or Command-Y
(Macintosh) to view the tutorial in Artwork mode. Then on
an unlocked layer, click anywhere on the path with the
Direct Selection Tool. This will reveal the locations of the
points. Click on or drag a marquee around any point to
reveal the control handles.

Setting up the tutorial in Adobe Illustrator 7-9

First click the direct selection tool

Then click the pen tool

1. First open the tutorial file:

File > Open > tem1ai.pdf
2. Next, save the file in Illustrator format:
File > Save As > myfile.ai
3. Next bring up the layers palette:
Window > Show Layers
4. Lock the layer containing the template,
then add a new layer. Draw on this new layer.

Note: Clicking the Direct Selection Tool just before clicking the Pen Tool
is not a requirement - it is a tip. It is to make sure that when the Ctrl key
(Windows) is pressed (or Command key for Macintosh), that the next
selected tool is the Direct Selection Tool instead of a different,
unintended selection tool. While actively making or modifying a path
using the pen, pressing Ctrl (Windows) or Command (Macintosh) will
activate the last selection tool used. It is more likely that you will make
adjustments to anchor points and control handles while you are drawing
than it is that you will move the entire path.
