Sapporo is the fourth-largest city in Japan and located on the northen island of Hokkaido. The city is
organized with an expansive grid block plan. The climate of Sapporo is classified as Humid Continental as it
has disctinct seasons with a range of temperatures throughout the year. Summers are moderate to warm but
not humid, while the winter is exhibits extreme conditions. During the cold months, Sapporo received more
snowfall than any other major city with yearly averages of 19.5 ft. Due to the cold and abundance of snow, the
city hosts many events including an annual Snow Festival with large snow/ice sculptures.
