Today I am writing a very interesting story of a successful manager who later became a
Vice President of a renowned pharmaceutical company of our country.
To be in this position of Vice President he had to work hard to overcome different
challenges he got from his job, as well as he had to overcome his frustration through
struggle.
Let his name is Mr. X, he was the training manager of that pharmaceutical company.
His main challenge was clash with his senior manager. That Senior Manager never
agreed with Mr. X about any decision he made for his departments betterment, for
example, when Mr. X felt necessity for go for new advertisement through news paper for
recruiting new Medical Information Officer, Senior Manager always wanted to delayed
advertisement and recruitment. Even when Mr. X wanted to arrange refreshers training
for Regional Sales Manager, his boss thought this is unnecessary waste of time and
resources and they should only concentrated on induction training for MIOs.
These types of clash increased turnover rate in his department. Again when his boss
asked him to reduce this turnover rate he got frustrated. Reducing this turnover was
also another challenge for Mr. X.
Then he took some initiative to overcome his challenges and frustration also. He talked
to management committee for having some favors, he provide valid reasons for what
changes he wanted to make. The committee also realized the needs and they agreed.
Then he went for frequent advertising and recruiting new and motivated Medical
Information Officers. He arranged refreshers training for Regional Sales Managers to
increase their leadership and motivational skills, so that they will be able to retain
Medical Information Officers working under them by convincing them. Besides these Mr.
X increased facilities for Medical Information Officers, like, he increased their salary,
provided cell phone for their personal use etc.
These initiatives helped Mr. X to get the turnover rate in control, which reduced his
frustration. Then his office also takes some initiative to motivate him. Office sent him
abroad for taking different training for his career betterments, and gradually promoted
him to Vice president of training department and HR Admin. All of these things helped
him to reduce his frustration.
This story encourages us to work hard to make any unfavorable situation favorable to
us in spite of being frustrated.
