A Description of the class


Level : Elementary
Students are between the ages of 10 and 11.
The class takes place from 9.40 to 10.25 a.m. on Fridays. The students are generally
enthusiastic.

B Recent work

Students have been learning about the past tense of regular / irregular verbs.

Students have been talking about past events.

C Objectives
1

1. To correctly use BE GOING TO in order talk about future plans and intentions.
2. To read for specific information and answer questions.
3. To write and talk about personal plans and intentions.

D Contents
Objective 1: To correctly use BE GOING TO in order talk about future plans and intentions
(Estimated time : 15 minutes)
(a) Context: Be going to
(b) Activity/class : After checking the homework, the teacher asks the students what are their
plans for the next day / week / summer. The teacher provides a few examples of her plans,
encouraging students to also talk about their plans. After a short conversation, the students are
invited to watch a short presentation. The teacher writes the title of the new lesson on the
board, inviting the students to do the same. She provides as many examples as she can in
order to get students to use the verb Be going to.
(c) Aids: board, notebooks, projector
(d) Language: All and any
(e) Possible problems: Students may not understand how to use the verb Be going to. The
teacher gives many examples.

Objective 2: To read for specific information and answer questions.


(Estimated time : 10 minutes)
(a) Context: Mark and Jane
(b) Activity/class: The students are asked if they remember Mark and Jane, two teenagers who
are on holiday. The teacher reads first. Then he students are asked to read Janes letter for her
mother too and after that they have to answer a few questions using true / false.
(c) Aids: worksheets
(d) Language: All and any.
(e) Possible problems: Students may have some problems in answering the questions. The
teacher can give them an example.
Objective 3: To correctly write and talk about personal future plans and intentions
(Estimated time : 15 minutes)
(a) Context: Worksheet
(b) Activity/class: The teacher asks students to complete a table with ticks or crosses in order
to present their plans for the future holiday. They are also asked to write sentences which they

are going to read in front of the class.


The last activity asks the students to write a note with something they are going to do on their
summer holiday. They are going to stick the note on a poster made by the teacher.
(c) Aids: worksheets, notes, poster
(d) Language: All and any.
(e) Possible problems: Students may have some problems in expressing their plans. The
teacher will provide the first example.

E Additional possibilities
1. In pairs, the students are asked to switch the worksheets. Each pupil is going to tell the
class what his / her colleague is going to do on holiday.

F Homework assignment ( 5 minutes )


The teacher appreciates the use of creativity in solving the tasks.
Students will have to solve the exercise 2 from page 86.
