PROJECTSUMMARY
The objective of the project is to develop an innovative tool dedicated to the water resources management for irrigation and civil use. In this
context the irrigation module is presented. Future scenario of climate change, combined with limited water resources, require better irrigation
management and planning. Even in European areas that are usually abundant in water, such as the Po Valley in Lombardy, the recurrence of
water stress periods asks for a new water management and distribution policy that promotes wiser methods of irrigation and maximizes
agricultural production and quality. SEGUICI addresses the need for new software tools by developing a web application to support managing
institutions, water consortia and end users in improving their irrigation schedule, minimizing irrigation costs and saving water.
The SDI under development in SEGUICI is based on a software that couples meteorological and hydrological models and returns actual and
forecasted soil moisture conditions. Besides data from ground stations, data from satellite have major importance as an input to the predictive
model. SEGUICI joins competences from agriculture, institutions and space and can be a successful example of crossfertilization between
different fields. This meets the guidelines by Lombardy Region, which identifies downstream space technology and agriculture as two of the
main development field for the regional technological policy. SEGUICI is funded in the framework of Lombardy Region Asse 1 del POR FESR
