Moriahs New Evidence based initiatives consist of two new programs:

A Matter of Balance Program:
Many older adults experience a fear of falling. People who develop this fear often limit their activities,
which can result in physical weakness, making the risk of falling even greater. A Matter of Balance is a
program designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults.
A Matter of Balance includes eight two-hour sessions led by a trained facilitator.
During the class, participants learn to:

View falls as controllable

Set goals for increasing activity

Make changes to reduce fall risk at home

Exercise to increase strength and balance

Walk With Ease Program:

The Walk With Ease Program is a physical activity and self-management education program. It is a
structured six-week program. Participants will attend an enrollment session where they will receive an
information package and all of the material needed to succeed. Participants can choose when and where
to walk, alone or with friends. While walking is the central activity, Walk with Ease is a multi-component
program that also includes health education, stretching and strengthening exercises, and motivational
strategies.
The overall goals of the Walk With Ease Program are:

To promote education about arthritis self-management and walking safely and comfortably.

To encourage participants to continue a walking program and explore other exercise and selfmanagement programs that deliver proven benefits.

By the end of the six-week program period, participants will:

Learn how to exercise safely and comfortably.

Use methods to make walking fun.

Make a doable personal walking plan with realistic goals for improved fitness.

Gather tips, strategies and resources to help overcome barriers and continue to be physically active.

Group
Come join the group on Monday, July 11th at 1 pm,
as we discuss Greer Macallisters evocative novel,

The Magicians Lie

Water for Elephants meets The Night Circus in The

Magician's Lie, a debut novel in which the country's
most notorious female illusionist stands accused of
her husband's murder - and she has only one night
to convince a small-town policeman of her
innocence.
The Amazing Arden is the most famous female
illusionist of her day, renowned for her notorious trick
of sawing a man in half on stage. One night in
Waterloo, Iowa, with young policeman Virgil Holt
watching from the audience, she swaps her trademark
saw for a fire ax. Is it a new version of the illusion, or
an all-too-real murder? When Arden's husband is
found lifeless beneath the stage later that night, the answer seems clear.
But when Virgil happens upon the fleeing magician and takes her into custody,
she has a very different story to tell. Even handcuffed and alone, Arden is far from
powerless-and what she reveals is as unbelievable as it is spellbinding. Over the
course of one eerie night, Virgil must decide whether to turn Arden in or set her
free... and it will take all he has to see through the smoke and mirrors.

Join Walk With Ease at Moriah and take the
step towards a more healthy life today!

Every Thursday at 11 am, join Feldenkrais practitioner Jill Van Note at Moriah Senior
Center for a series of exercises to reduce pain, improve posture, and help you feel like the
best version of you!
Moving Forward with the Feldenkrais Method isnt a conventional exercise program. It is
very different. Instead of stretching or straining your muscles, the Moving Forward
program features exercises that harness your brain to help your body. These exercises are
safe, stress-free and involve no muscular exertion. Instead, they involve small easy
movements and a pleasant process of paying attention to yourself.
What can this program do for me?
Moving Forward with the Feldenkrais Method can help you to reduce muscular aches and
pains, improve your posture, improve your balance, and increase your flexibility and ease
of movement. It can also help you to improve your breathing, reduce stress, improve your
mood, and give you a sense of energy and optimism. The exercises in the Moving Forward
program are also helpful after stroke or injury. In addition to helping you to heal and
regain function, they can also help to rebuild your confidence in your body.
