ARMY EMERGENCY RESPONSE 7

General 7.1

7.1 This chapter addresses the special working dress requirements for members of the Army
Emergency Response (AER) when on AER duty.

7.2 AER personnel are required to respond immediately to fires or other emergencies. They must
therefore be dressed appropriately whilst on duty, as time is not available to change clothing. The actual
garments and protective equipment to be worn, is determined by the senior AER member.

7.3 The AER logo is issued to provide ready identification of AER posted personnel at emergency
sites. The logo provides identification for members not currently qualified to wear the AER trade
qualification badge, and commissioned officers posted to positions of command within the Emergency
Response Squadron. There exists a legislative requirement for AER personnel to be identifiable to
Commonwealth, State and military emergency service organisations at all emergency sites. This
identification is provided by the AER logo worn on brassard or firefighters helmet. The logo is shown in
figure 7–1.

7.4 When engaged on AER duties outside military areas, AER working/protective dress is
authorised to be worn. While on AER duty within barracks AER working dress is authorised to be worn
as a barrack dress.

7.5 The special orders of dress for AER personnel are detailed in tables as follows:

7.6 This order of dress is worn by AER personnel while on AER duty in both barracks and in the
field. This order of dress, is not to be worn on non-trade related promotion courses.

7.7 It consists of the following items of dress:

(a) To be worn at all times, except when driving vehicles.

(c) To be worn at all times during AER operational activities. Not to be worn in the field or on deployments
unless approved by the Senior Army Emergency Responder (SAER) or OC ERS.

(d) As directed by the senior AER member in accordance with AER operating procedures, to enable a rapid
response.

(e) Boots firefighter are provided as protective equipment and as such are only to worn during AER
operational activities. Boots combat are to be worn outside these periods.

7.8 This order of dress is worn by AER personnel while on emergency AER duty.

(a) To be worn at all times, except when driving vehicles. Not to be worn at emergency scenes unless
directed by the senior AER member

(b) Not to be worn whilst riding in a vehicle.

(c) May be removed at incident scenes, as directed by the senior AER member in accordance with AER
operating procedures.

(d) To be worn at all times during AER operational activities. Not to be worn in the field or on deployments
unless approved by the SAER or OC ERS.

(e) No rank insignia or badges of any kind are to be worn on this garment.

(f) As directed by the senior AER member in accordance with AER operating procedures and Army
Occupational Health and Safety Manual regulations.

(g) Boots firefighter are provided as protective equipment and as such are only to worn during AER
operational activities. Boots combat are to be worn outside these periods.
