Monday thru Friday 7:30AM 3:30PM, must be available to work 24/7 on call
rotation
Incumbent serves as Custodian and Maintenance Supervisor for the Madison County Jail,
responsible for cleaning, completing minor repairs, and supervising Jail Trustees while fulfilling
their duties.
Duties:
Performs minor repairs of County- owned equipment in the Madison County Jail, including
installing electrical outlets, and light fixtures.
Installs and/or replaces plumbing fixtures, including water lines, toilets, sinks, coolers and sump
pumps; unclogs toilets and sinks as needed.
Performs preventative maintenance procedures on H.V.A.C. units, including changing and/or
cleaning filters.
Cleans Madison County Jail by sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, shampooing, and buffing floors,
washing and sanitizing sinks, toilets, mirrors, emptying trash containers, and replenishing paper
supplies as needed.
Performs seasonal maintenance on County equipment, including changing belts, greasing and
oiling, and ensuring proper fluid levels.
Acts as crew leader and supervises the work on projects as assigned or directed. Supervises the
work of Jail t=Trustees, including various cleaning, sanitation, and minor maintenance duties.
May perform repairs on locks, sliding doors, inner locking circuits, broken windows, toilets, sinks,
and showers within the Jail. Rebuilds locks and sliding door motors as needed.
Performs lawn care/landscaping duties as needed, including mowing weed whacking, snow and
ice removal and unloads/loads trucks as needed.
Periodically washes windows and sills, polishes blinds, and shovels snow as needed.
Serves 24-on call as assigned.
Lifts and moves furniture as required.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Preferred qualification: at least three years previous
experience, with an emphasis in the completion of repairs. Working knowledge of custodial
equipment, tools, and supplies such as sweeper, vacuum, cleaning chemicals, etc. Ability to
physically perform activities including mopping floors, shoveling snow and moving furniture,
crouching, crawling, bending, stooping, and occasionally lifting greater than 50 pounds. Ability
to read and understand written guidelines and warnings regarding chemicals, cleaning supplies
and equipment.
