FACTORY STREET RECONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Mill Street Bridge Closure Beginning July 6th Issued June 30, 2016 The Citys contractor, CCI Companies, is advancing the Factory Street Reconstruction Project on multiple fronts. They are currently installing storm sewers on Mechanic Street, excavating the street to prepare for curb installation at the east end of Factory Street, installing traffic signal conduit, and constructing a retaining wall. Construction on Mill Street, between Factory Street and the Mill Street Bridge, will resume on July 6th, to complete installation of storm sewers, watermain, concrete curbing, sidewalk, and asphalt pavement. During this phase of the project, Mill Street Bridge will be closed to thru traffic. Beginning Wednesday July 6th, MILL STREET BRIDGE (SOUTH SPAN) WILL BE CLOSED to THRU TRAFFIC. The bridge closure is anticipated to last up to (8) eight weeks. A traffic detour will be setup to divert traffic to Court Street Bridge. Businesses on the north side of the Mill Street Bridge can be accessed from Main Street East/West to Mill Street. Watermain Work: 98% of the watermain infrastructure is complete, with the exception of a major connection at Mill Street and Factory Street intersection, which can now be completed because National Grid completed their underground electric duct bank project. Sanitary Sewer Work: Sanitary sewer lateral replacement, to north side properties from the recently lined 24 sanitary sewer on Factory Street, are complete. Replacement of the sanitary sewer main and services on Factory Street, which serve properties on the south side of the street, will begin in July. Storm Sewer Work: Storm sewer work is underway on Mechanic Street, and will soon begin on Mill Street. Once national Grid completes installation of a new gas main and services along Factory Street, storm sewer work can proceed along the south side of Factory Street. National Grid: National Grid recently completed their project on Mill Street, to switch service over to the relocated underground electric duct bank. National Grids Gas subcontractor, Dekatherm, is advancing installation of a new gas main along the south side of Factory Street, between Polk Street and High Street. We will continue to provide press releases and notices to the public as construction progresses and future traffic control measures are implemented.
