The first ATM was installed in 1968


by Chemical Bank in New York

Barclays Bank in UK claim to have


installed the first cash dispenser
in the world in June 1967

Working of ATM

When you insert or swipe your ATM card into


ATM what happens ?

A card reader reads the data that is digitallyencoded in the card.

Internal device captures information, along


with the personal identification number(PIN)
that keyed in, and verifies the PIN locally,
transmits the request to the institution

used length is 16 digits)

Personal Identification Number
Acts as Password
Vanilla length is 4 digit

Maximum length is 11 digits
Minimum length is 6 digits

ATM V/S CASH


DISPENSER

ATM is a full functional machine. It


has
Cash dispenser as well as Envelope
depositor.
In the case of Cash dispenser, only
cash will dispense to the customer.

This module is used to deposit the

Receipt printer

Receipt printer is a consumer


printer used to produce the
receipt for the customer.

Journal Printer

Journal printer also a printer which


is used for Log purpose.
It will print all the events occurred
at the ATM. Example, Taking the
cassette out and Insertion of
cassette etc.
ATM will not work without this
printer.

Currency chest and


lock

Currency chest is nothing but it is a


door for the cash dispenser unit.
This door is used for safety purpose.
It has Lock called Combination lock
(Mechanical or Electronic lock) depends
on the bank requirement.
Dispenser unit will not work without
closing the door with the help of inter
lock unit fixed inside the currency chest.

Intel p-111 ,850 Mhz.


PELE 2 Mother board.
Onboard Ethernet.

TMK keys

Terminal master key is used for


ATM security.
This TMK is normally stored in the
Encrypted key board.

EJ

Expansion of EJ is Electronic Journal.


EJ is used for backup purpose.
If Journal printer fails ATM will not get in
to out of service, simply ATM will store
the events in the EJ. Once journal
printer is up all data in the EJ will print
on the journal printer.
EJ is a file which is stored in the Hard
disk.
