Science Outreach: Popularisation of Science(level of Associate
Professor or Retired person)
Eligibility - The Manipal Centre for Natural Sciences wishes to expand
its science outreach activities based at the Dr. T. M. A. Pai Planetarium
and intended science museum. Through science outreach, MCNS
wishes to spread interest and awareness about developments in
astronomy and astrophysics, our prehistoric planet and create
awareness for the conservation of nature in eco-sensitive regions such
as the Western Ghats. The two broad areas of interest are space
science and natural history.
The successful candidate will have an MSc and PhD in Astronomy and
Astrophysics OR a branch of fundamental study in one of the Earth
Sciences OR an advanced degree in science journalism with an
interest / experience in the popularization of science. The job is high
profile and will require excellent communication skills and writing
abilities including proficiency in the use of social media for the widest
reach. Technical aspects of the post will include encouraging and
overseeing amateur science associations and activities such a nature
walks, science book clubs etc., developing exhibits for the museum

and arboretum, organizing events of contemporary scientific interest

and issuing press releases, creating scripts for future shows at the
Planetarium in a variety of subject areas and ensuring the highest
visibility for these activities.
Fluency in English is mandatory and candidates with a good
knowledge of Kannada will be given preference.
Assistant Professor:
1. Earth and Planetary Science
Eligibility - Outstanding candidate at the level of Assistant Professor
in the Earth and Planetary Sciences. Areas of research interest include
Cosmo chemistry and planetary science. The successful candidate will
have a PhD in geophysics or other geosciences with a minimum of
three years post-doctoral experience at an institute of repute. The
applicant must be well versed in field techniques and computational
modeling, able to work independently and lead a group towards
making important contributions to the field. The subject field in the
email must contain MCNS and the name of the discipline and post
applied for. Candidates who have a DST INSPIRE Fellowship or
equivalent are also encouraged to apply.
2. Paleontology and the Paleo-sciences
Eligibility - Outstanding candidate at the level of Assistant Professor
in Paleontology and the paleo-sciences. Areas of research interest
include vertebrate and invertebrate paleontology, paleo-morphology
and evolutionary biology with a specific interest in investigations at
the K/T boundary. The successful candidate will have a PhD in a
relevant branch of the geosciences with a minimum of three years
post-doctoral experience at an institute of repute. The applicant must
be well versed in field techniques and modeling, able to work
independently and lead a group towards making important
contributions to the field. The subject field in the email must contain

3. Oceanography
Eligibility - Outstanding candidate at the level of Assistant Professor
in Oceanography. Areas of research interest include ancient oceans
and diversification of marine life. The successful candidate will have a
PhD in a relevant branch of science with a minimum of three years
post-doctoral experience at an institute of repute. The applicant must
be well versed in field techniques and computer modeling and
simulations, able to work independently and lead a group towards
making important contributions to the field. The subject field in the

4. Nuclear Physics
Eligibility - outstanding candidate at the level of Assistant Professor
in Nuclear Physics. The successful candidate will ideally have a good
knowledge of nuclear reactions and possess strong computational
skills. A minimum of three years post-doctoral experience at a
national or international institute of repute is required with an
excellent publication record. The applicant must be well versed in
experimental techniques and/or theoretical modeling and able to
work independently and lead a group including advanced students
towards making important contributions to the field. The subject field

5. Reactor Physics, Computational physical / atomic chemistry
