Ethnic background, family, and citizenship
It is safe to say that I am a mutt in terms of my ethnic makeup. When given the
option, I always select Hispanic on job applications. Although, this is not how
I would identify myself if asked personally. I feel as though I identify more
closely as Caucasian. My mother is French Canadian, American Indian, and
German. My fathers only known ethnicity is of Hispanic descent. My
grandmother(his mother) was adopted and never knew her biological parents.
Although my last name is rich in Hispanic ancestry, I do not speak Spanish. My
grandfather abandoned his family when my father was young. Therefore, he
never learned Spanish and neither did we. We also never adopted any Mexican or
Hispanic traditions. My family is relatively small. Holidays and family
gatherings are very important to me. I have learned the importance of time and
that memories are far more valuable than money.
