After this set the teeth are aligned in the arch.

After the conclusion of this set the teeth are aligned in the arch. Ideal arch
form is being gained with correction of Curve of Spee.

After the conclusion of this set the teeth are leveled in the arch. Ideal arch
form and bracket alignment have been established at this step

The sequence of ligation in the mandibular arch wire is as follows
1. Four incisors
2. Right and left cuspids
3. Right and left first premolars
4. Right and left second premolars
First the mandibular anchorage preparation is done until third degree
anchorage has been prepared. The distal marginal ridge of terminal
molars will approach gum level. Then the treatment mechanics are
reversed and third degree anchorage is prepared in maxillary arch. At the
conclusion of this set both 1st molars are in third degree anchorage
position.

The force for the distal en masse movement is derived from the
intermediate headgear use and use of up-and-down elastics help top
prevent opening of the bite. At the conclusion of this set the Angles Class
II molar relation changes to Angles Class I molar relation. At this stage it
is a Class I bimaxillary protusion case.

SET 5
Partial Retraction Of Mandibular Cuspids
Before beginning with the Set 5 wire, the mandibular 1 st premolars are
removed. 1st molars are debanded and 2nd molars are banded.
MAXILLARY:
0.021 0.025 inch stainless steel wire
Bent in Tie back loops adjacent to molar tubes
Identical second wire as the previous wire
Hooks for intermediate head gear soldered
MANDIBULAR:
0.019 0.025 inch stainless steel wire
Long second order bends
Jigs of 0.022 inches dimension
Jigs designed so that the anterior eyelet is 3mm to second premolar
and the posterior eyelet is in contact with the 2nd molar buccal tube.
The terminal molars are moved 3mm distally and the 1st molars are
uprighted. At this step the 1st molars are banded with bands carrying twin
brackets spaced 2mm apart. A new mandibular arch wire is made.
MANDIBULAR:
0.020 inch stainless steel wire
Long second order bends
Two jigs designed so that the posterior eyelet is in contact with
second premolar and anterior eyelet of the jig with canine bracket.
At the conclusion of this set total mandibular anchorage has been
prepared and approximately 3mm of space is created between the canine
and the lateral incisor.

SET 6
Retraction Of Mandibular Incisors

MAXILLARY:
Maxillary arch remains as an anchorage unit. The wire in the maxillary
arch is not changed.
MANDIBULAR:
0.019 0.025 inch stainless steel wire
First and second order bends
Vertical loop 1mm distal to the canine bracket
To raise the occlusal level od buccal segment the mesial leg is
made 4mm and distal leg is 5mm
Stops soldered 1 mm distal to distal margin of distal bracket of 1 st
molar
0.07 inch ligature wire crisscrosed under wings of four mandibular
incisors teeth.

The vertical loops are activated by tying the terminal molar buccal tube to
the soldered stops. At the conclusion of this set the mandibular incisors
are partially retracted.

SET 7
Partial Retraction Of Maxillary Cuspids
Before beginning with the Set 7 wire, the maxillary 1 st premolars are
removed. 1st molars are debanded and 2nd molars are banded.
MAXILLARY:
0.020 inch stainless steel wire
Jigs are made with posterior border on second molar tube and
anterior border 3mm distal to canine bracket.
MANDIBULAR:
0.021 0.025 inch stainless steel wire
Bent in Tie back loops 0.5mm from the molar tubes
Identical second wire as the previous wire
Use of Class II Intermaxillary Elastics
The terminal molars are moved 3mm distally and the 1st molars are
uprighted. At this step the 1st molars are banded with bands carrying twin
brackets spaced 2mm apart. Then new jigs are made
Jigs are made with posterior eyelet in contact with second premolar and
anterior eyelet 3mm mesial to canine bracket. The teeth in maxillary
buccal segment have been tipped distally.
New jigs are made with posterior eyelet 2mm mesial to the second
premolar and anterior eyelet in contact with canine bracket. Tis step is
repeated twice retracting the canines by 4mm.

SET 8
Partial Retraction Of Maxillary Incisors
MAXILLARY:
0.019 0.025 inch stainless steel wire
Bent in Tie back loops 3mm mesial to the molar tubes
Vertical loops 3mm anterior to second premolar bracket
Jigs are made with posterior border on second molar tube and
anterior border 3mm distal to canine bracket.
Arch wire so shaped it lines up but does not enter cuspid bracket
Four incisors are held by lacing them with 0.007 inch ligature
MANDIBULAR:
Mandibular arch remains as an anchorage unit. The wire in the
mandibular arch is not changed.
Use of Class II Intermaxillary Elastics and pull to the vertical loop
After the conclusion of this set the the maxillary incisors are partially
retracted.

SET 9
Complete Retraction Of Mandibular Cuspids

MAXILLARY:
0.021 0.025 inch stainless steel wire
Soldered stops 1mm mesial to the molar tube
Headgear hooks soldered between lateral incisor and canine
Four incisors are braided using 0.007 inch ligature to prevent
unwanted migration
MANDIBULAR:
0.019 0.025 inch stainless steel wire
First and second order bends
Intermaxillary hooks between central and lateral incisor
Open coil spring 1.25 times the distance between lateral incisor and
canine
Soldered tie back loops 1mm mesial to the molar tube
A 0.007 inch ligature tie is made from the distal of the cuspid to prevent
rotations from developing as the cuspids are moved distally.
Another 0.007 inch stainless steel ligature is wrapped around the arch
wire one and half times between the sections of open coil and the lateral
incisor bracket in such manner that the ligature wire will lie lingual to
arch wire. The steel ligature wire is then passed under the wings of the
cuspid brackets, crossed over the arch wire and tied to the second
premolar brackets.
A ligature tie is made from the distal end of the molar tubes to the T-stop
located on the arch wire 1mm mesial to the molar tubes. The tie wire is
brought forward and tied to the distal bracket on the first molar.

SET 10
Complete Retraction Of Mandibular Incisors

MAXILLARY:
The wire in the maxillary arch is reused
MANDIBULAR:
0.019 0.025 inch stainless steel wire
First and second order bends
Vertical loop 1mm distal to the canine bracket

SET 11

Complete Retraction Of Maxillary Cuspids

Intermaxillary hooks between central and lateral incisor
Open coil spring 1.5 times the distance between lateral incisor and
canine
Soldered tie back loops 1mm mesial to the molar tube
MANDIBULAR:
0.021 0.025 inch stainless steel wire
Bent in stop loops 0.5mm mesial to the molar tube
Intermaxillary hooks soldered between lateral incisor and canine
At the conclusion of this set the maxillary canines are completely
retracted.

SET 12

Complete Retraction Of Maxillary Incisors

MAXILLARY:
0.019 0.025 inch stainless steel wire
Long second order bends
Marks are made 0.05mm distal to the distal bracket on 1 st molar, 2nd
premolar and canine and 2.5mm anterior to canine bracket.
Headgear hooks between central and lateral incisor
Intermaxillary hooks between lateral incisor and canine
Lay on stop soldered 2.5mm mesial to 2nd premolar bracket
Open coil spring 0.5 inch in each leg of wire
0.007 inch ligature between canine and premolar to prevent
opening of space.

At the conclusion of this set the maxillary incisors are completely


retracted.
Using the tourquing key, both maxillary central incisors are ligated
to the arch wire.
Then both lateral incisors are ligated to the arch wire.
The coils are compressed against the stops 2.5mm mesial to the
second premolar brackets by
means of a 0.007 inch ligature wire. The ligature is then lightly tied
to the the second premolar brackets.
The next tie is made from the hook of the first molar to the bracket
of the second premolar.
The final ties are made from the distal end of the second molar tube
to the distal bracket on the first molar band. This tie should hold
the arch wire in the bracket but not bind them in slot.
