Translating thoughts into a plan of action

Lesson Objective(s)
(Stated in observable and measurable terms)
Given one to two class periods, the students will be able to create a Photostory about their hobbies using 15-20 pictures depicting their
hobby with description, examples, and directions of how to get involved in this hobby.

Assessment Plan
(What will be done to determine if lesson objectives have been met?)
A rubric will be given to students and used by the teacher to determine if the students have met the criteria for the project.

Materials:
15-20 Student provided pictures per student, memory stick per student, Photostory program, 1 computer per student, Smartboard, dry erase
board, dry erase markers, rubrics for students

Inclusion Techniques for Students with Special Needs:

Learning support teacher, specific directions for each child who needs them, extra time for the lesson, less pictures needed for project,
headphones to drown out noise and to listen to program on the computer.

Enrichment Techniques:
Students will be required to include voice recorded descriptions for their Photostory, they will also be required to post their Photostories to the
school’s website.

Lesson Differentiation (What modifications/accommodations will be made to ensure that ALL students have access to and are able
to participate in the lesson):
Students will have one on one discussions with the teacher to determine how best to create their Photostory to best show their interests.
The learning support teacher will be available for all students when needed.

Lesson Presentation
Introduction/Motivational Activities/Anticipatory Set:
The teacher will show the students her own Photostory created about her hobby. The teacher will ask some of the students to share their
hobbies.

Detailed Teaching Sequence:


(Provide sufficient detail that would enable a substitute to effectively present this lesson. Bulleted statements are preferred)

1. The teacher will explain to the students that they will be using the Photostory program to create their own Photostory depicting
their own hobbies.

2. The teacher will explain that the students will be creating the Photostory with the pictures that they have provided on their memory
stick. They will be required to describe their hobby using captions and music. A rubric will be provided for each student.
3. The teacher will show the students the Photostory tutorial provided on how to properly use the program and the features that it
offers.
4. The teacher will have the students turn on the computers
5. The teacher will have the students open the program
6. The teacher will have the students place their memory sticks in the USB drive on the computer.
7. The teacher will have the students begin to upload the pictures that they have chosen to create their Photostory, adding music and
different color fonts when needed. Enriched students will be required to record the descriptions of their photos.
8. The teacher will walk around the classroom answering any questions or helping any student that needs it.

Guided Practice/Independent Practice/Assessment Activities


Students will continue to work on their Photostory for the remainder of the period and also the next class period. They may also create
another Photostory on a subject that they find interesting for extra credit.

Closure:
The students will share their Photostory on their class websites and answer any questions posed to them on their hobby by email to the
teacher and the student asking the questions.
