Dear Seventh Grade Parents/Guardians,

I am thrilled to introduce myself as your childs mathematics teacher. In the

weeks and months to come, I hope we will have the opportunity to meet in
person via our Open House and conferenced to discuss your childs
mathematical progress.
By way of background, I have been married for 19 years. My husband is an
attorney in the US Army, we have lived in eight different states and two
countries. We have three teenage children. I recently decided to quit my stayat-home mom job and pursue my desire to teach. I graduated from California
State University and San Bernardino with a BA in Liberal Studies. I have been a
substitute teacher off and on for the past 15 years. Last year I completed two
different long-term sub positions here at Union Grove Middle School. It was
during that time in the classroom that I knew I wanted to obtain my Texas
Teaching Certification to teach middle school math.
Seventh grade in an important year for mathematics students, as they move
from the concrete, computational math prevalent in earlier grade, to the
abstract, higher order math they will see in high school. Highlights of the course
include work with linear relationships, signed number, solving multi-step
equations, three dimensional geometry, ratios and proportions.
Regarding my expectations for seventh grade students, we will focus on habits
that are paramount to a students success in high school. The first such habit
would be coming to class on time and prepared, with all materials in hand for
the days study. We will stress maintaining an organized, up-to-date notebook
and overall organizational skills. Second, completing homework in a careful,
diligent manner will be another key to success. Not completing homework, or
completing it hurriedly, will leave your child at a tremendous disadvantage in
the classroom. He or she will be unprepared for the days lesson and not ready
to move forward with the other students. In addition, as we will often be working
collaboratively in pairs or groups, an unprepared student will subtract from the
learning of others. Therefore, it would be supportive to ask your child to show
you his or her homework assignments on an occasional basis. Lastly, if a student
needs additional help outside of class, I encourage them to set up a time to
come see me before or after school.
If at any time during the coming months you have questions or concerns about
your childs progress, I invite you to contact me at
Jennifer.Lamborn@killeenisd.org so that we may make an appointment to speak.
My regular office/tutoring house will be Tuesdays from 7:15 7:45am and
Thursdays from 3:45 4:30pm, but will make myself available other times as
well.
I very much look forward to working with you to ensure that this school year is a
rewarding and productive one for all of us.

Best Regards,

Jennifer Lamborn
