HOW TO USE THIS COURSE

The course is divided into 10 chapters; each chapter comprises
a single lesson. The chapters/lessons are specifically designed
to be completed in their respective order.
Each lesson consists of: 1 Theory Portion, 1 Meditation,
and 1 Weekly Integration exercise.
While there is no concrete standard, it is suggested each lesson
take approximately 1 week to complete. This includes reading
the theory portion several times, practicing the Meditation daily,
and incorporating the Integration exercise into everyday life as
much as possible during that week.
Meditation should be preceded by pre-requisites (Lesson 2.)
The Qabalistic Cross (Lesson 6), should be performed before
and after each meditation, from that point on.
The student should periodically review and integrate Qabalahs
12 Fundamental Principles, (page 11), throughout the course.
The student should review the 5 Causes of Suffering a (page 17)
at the courses completion, after the Integration Exercises
completed, and see if any new insights are gained.
The Meditations and Integration exercises are designed to
reprogram the human instincts to a higher mystical awareness.
Even after the course completion, they can be practiced anytime
the student feels necessary.

INTRODUCTION
Hello, and welcome to Qabalah: The Path to Inner Mastery:
A comprehensive 10-week home study program!

Im Theodosios. Im an initiate of the Western Mysteries since

1997, and the author of this study program. This course is based
on a classroom lecture series that I teach.
I am pleased to be your host on this incredible journey of attaining
spiritual mastery and inner wisdom. I invite you to join me in the
study, practice of that profound, mysterious, ancient system of
mystical ascent, Qabalah. The teachings presented here are the
culmination of years of my own research, practice, and teaching of
the Western Mysteries.
Well be covering a lot of exciting ground over the next 10 weeks!
We will take an in-depth look at the Qabalah Tree of Life, The Holy
Sephirot, and the Aleph Beth, the sacred Hebrew alphabet. We will
spend time working with the mighty archangels, and look at Qabalahs
association with the tarot, the planets, and numerology.
We will learn how to integrate Qabalahs 12 main Principles.
We will work with the 5 main causes of human suffering (most
of which, are automatically ingrained in us from a lifetime of social
programming, autosuggestion, and our innate bio-evolutionary survival
mechanisms), and learn how to transcend each of them, to create
a life of profound mystical wisdom and joy!

We will learn how Qabalah predates many of the theories of modern

theories of science, and New Age themes, such as The Law of
Attraction. We will cover the fundamentals of Qabalah meditation.
And, most important of all, we will learn to use Qabalahs profound
symbolism and teachings to manifest the life we want, to heal and
transform the wounds in our psyche, and to develop our spiritual
natures to their highest potential.

The suggested study rate is one lesson per week. This gives the
psyche enough time to integrate the teachings and create proper
changes at all levels of our subtle bodies, building the foundation
before moving on next.
As the saying goes:
Haste makes waste.
this is certainly true of progress on the mystical path.

Each weekly lesson consists of:

A theory portion of teachings.

A meditation to be practiced each day for that week.
A simple daily awareness exercise to bring into your awareness
within the everyday, mundane world.

This course will not make an overnight enlightened master. That

takes years, perhaps lifetimes. But by the end of these 10 weeks,
the persistent student will have achieved new levels of awareness,
greater sense of purpose and meaning in life, and will have developed
a solid foundation to build on, in the major areas of Qabalah.
I encourage reviewing the material a number of times during that
particular week. Repetition is the mother of learning!

While some theory and history of the teachings is important,

what is more important is how we can put them into everyday use.
Hence, this courses emphasis is on doing, and not just reading!!!
I recommend studying the material when you are in the proper frame
of mind. That means being relaxed, comfortable, and not worried,
angry, or over stimulated. It is very important to be
free of distractions. We live in an incredibly distracted informationoverloaded age, with most of us unable to properly focus on the
important tasks at hand.
It is important we set aside a part of each day just for ourselves.
This course is for everyone, regardless of spiritual beliefs or levels of
psycho-spiritual attainment! Qabalah is for all of humankind, not only
a select, chosen few. All that is required is an open mind, a
commitment to learning, following the teachings in the prescribed
order, a brutal honesty in the process of self discovery and
assessment, and an unconditional desire to connect with that part of
ourselves that is forever eternal, Divine, and absolutely perfect.
So with all that in mind, lets begin our exciting journey!

THE 12 PRINCIPLES OF QABALAH

1. All Creation emanated from the unmanifest Infinite Nothing, via the
10 Divine Emanations, the Sephirot.
2. Every being in the entire universe contains a holy, Divine Spark, no
matter how seemingly hidden.
3. While in the physical world, we live in a fallen and forgotten state, and
must become our own redeemers.
4. It is humanitys destiny to transcend matter, and to eventually return to
our Divine Source.
5. Every force or energy that can potentially draw us closer to The Divine
contains in equal proportion, its dark shadow side. Hence, humanity has
true free will.
6. Everything in the outer material universe equally exists within the depths
of our own psyche.
7. Everything we experience in the material universe, through our own
perception, can only ever be a symbolic representation of the ultimate
unknown Reality.
8. Every thought, feeling, word, and action creates an energy pattern that
reverberates, and affects the entire universe and all levels of the human
psyche.
9. The spiritual world is a reflection of the physical, and the physical world
is a reflection of the spiritual.
10. Everything in the material universe exists as the result of extreme polarities
uniting through varying degrees of expansion and restriction.
11. Every force and energy in the universe can only be in a state of
balance or imbalance.
12. The Divine, found everywhere in the universe, is a continuing dynamic
process, not a static Being.

QABALAH: THE PATH TO

INNER MASTERY

LESSON 1
WALKING THE SACRED ROAD

By Theodosios

The mystic seeks to directly experience lifes deepest and most

profound mysteries for themselves, without overly-relying on pedantic
theories, or external intermediaries that claim to do the work for
them. Through meditation, prayer, self-discovery, and integration
into everyday life, the mystic seeks to discover and connect with their
own Divine natures for themselves.

Using the primordial, universal, archetypal symbolism that has always

existed both in the outer manifested universe and within our own

psyches, we heal our inner wounds, awaken our inner powers and
wisdom, and create the wholeness, healing, and the life of Divine
joy and wisdom that we were all meant, and are destined, to live.

Mysticism is both the quest and methodology of pursuing

direct experience of our higher spiritual natures.

OR, Alternately

Mysticism is the Realization (experience) of the Oneness that

permeates all existence.

People pursue the mystical path for the following reasons:

They strongly feel there must be more to life.
Often, after many years of living (and re-living) the mundane
patterns of survival, pursuit, competition and achievement,
the mystic begins to see the futile, redundant, and empty
paradigms as ultimately leading to an unfulfilled life and spiritual
emptiness. He/she begins to seek an awakening
to a deeper, more profound existence and purpose.

They claim there was a calling they could not ignore.

The history of mysticism is replete with stories of ordinary
people going about their everyday lives, when suddenlyone day,
out of seemingly nowhere, they feel, or hear, or see something

that makes them question their entire existence, their entire

purpose for living. Following this experience, their lives are
forever changed, and a new seeking begins.

The desire for greater beauty and deeper connection.

Often, inspired by a beautiful painting, piece of music, a view
of an ocean, or a walk in the mountains, the seed of a higher
beauty coupled with the burning desire to connect with that
beauty, is planted in ones soul forever. A new phase of
awareness and purpose takes them on a different path leading
to unknown territories, realms and experiences.

Not wanting to leave the destiny of their soul to the

forces and workings of chance.
The mystic wishes to seize and control their own destiny,
and willingly accepts all the responsibility that goes with it.

Craving direct experience of The Divine for themselves.

The mystic is interested neither in higher spiritual realities
available only in some abstract notion of an afterlife, nor in
pursuing inner mastery via some designated intermediary. On
the contrary, the mystic craves for their Divine-given right
of mystical illumination for themselves, here in this lifetime.

Why do so many well-meaning people pursue the mystical path

for years, and often end up disappointed with their results?

This is a very common phenomenon, applicable to many paths of selfimprovement, including psychotherapy, self-help courses, diets,
exercise regimes, etc. The solution is simple (but not always easy):

To change your life, you must change

your l-i-f-e-s-t-y-l-e!
Often, a student will devote say, 1 hour per day to their selfdevelopment work, whether its meditating, doing ritual, psychotherapy,
listening to their Tony Robbins tapes, walking in nature, doing yoga,
qigong, etc. And yet, when I ask them how their remaining day-to-day
affairs are spent outside of that 1 hour, it quickly becomes apparent
that they spend the remaining 23 hours UNDOING all that wonderful
work of the 1 hour!

Spending a small amount of time in self-cultivation, and then the rest

of the day getting angry in traffic, working jobs we hate, staying in
relationship we know are hindering our potential, pursuing the needs
of the ego, worrying about things past and future, and fighting with
our families, is counterproductive to personal growth.
And, if ones life is that chaotic, then practicing self-cultivation work
several times throughout the day, perhaps in smaller increments, can
be very beneficial. As we will discover:

Mysticism is not something you DO. Its who you ARE!

Mysticism is a way of life. And by that, I certainly dont mean doing

spiritual work all day long. After all.

We work to live, not live to work!

And the real work IS your everyday, mundane life!

What is required is a change in our perceptions, a reprogramming
in the way we perceive (and react to) ourselves, other people, events,
and the entire process (not static state) of existence (more on this
last part in later lessons).
And, if youre not there now, no need to worry....well get there!
Because in Qabalah, youve picked the perfect teacher to show you
how. The earlier statement is so fundamental, it bears repeating:

To change your life, you must change

your l-i-f-e-s-t-y-l-e!!!
Qabalists identify several factors which prevent us (or at least,
hinder us) from attaining the higher levels of mystical awareness.
While we are in this physical, dualistic, manifested universe, and
in these physical bodies, with our many complex layers of being,
we are inevitably affected by some (or all) of them.

Collectively, they are known as

THE 5 PRIMARY CAUSES OF HUMAN SUFFERING

1. THE FAILURE TO ACCEPT OURSELVES AS WE ARE.

Our discriminating minds often lead us to attach importance

and meaning to areas where there is none! We often judge
ourselves by the way we look, by the talents and skills we have
(or wish we had), or by the things we've done, good or bad.
The reality is all of these things are superficial and transitory,
and represent qualities about us that we HAVE. But none
represent who we actually ARE. And that is, we are Beings of
Divine origin seeking to return to pure, unified, Divine Joy!

2. THE FAILURE TO ACCEPT OTHERS AS THEY ARE.

The Zohar, the main text of Qabalah, and likewise the teachings
of the great 16th century Kabbalist Isaac Luria, are adamant
that each of us carries within us, a Holy Spark of The Divine.
When we learn to see past peoples faults and misgivings, (which
does not make them acceptable, as is commonly misunderstood),
we begin to cultivate acceptance and inner peace with ourselves.
Which is what forgiveness is truly about.

3. THE FAILURE TO ACCEPT EVENTS AS THEY OCCUR.

This is a tough one for many to come to terms with, even those
on the mystical path, which certainly included myself at times.
Our own vanities, needs, psychological projections, and external
lifelong influences often convince us that our own ideas about
justice and fairness reflect how things in the world should really
be. This can make many things difficult to accept.
The solution lies in not trying to make the world as we assume it
should be, becoming attached to our emotional reactions to events.
It lies in understanding that at deeper levels, unknowable to us for
the time being, there is an intelligence and harmonious order to
everything that occurs, at the right place, and at the right time.
Accepting this Divine order of things does not mean we passively
observe and accept without feeling, every act of injustice that we
witness. That would be negating and denying ourselves a large and
vital aspect of the human experience.
What makes all the difference is our level of attachment. Quite
often our perception of things is based on our own projections, our
own issues. Following the mystical path helps us put things
in greater overall perspective, and allows us to understand that
everything that occurs and exists in the universe has its rightful
place and purpose.

The famed contemporary spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle said

it well when he stated that the solution to an act of injustice

is to act on it, to do something to change it for the better.

Reacting strongly to it (or not), doesnt change anything. What
happened still happened.

4. THE FAILURE TO CULTIVATE A BALANCED, CENTERED

STATE OF CONSCIOUSNESS, UNAFFECTED BY ANY
CRITICISM OR PRAISE.

Often, our responses to things, people, ideas, symbols, etc., are

not responses at all. They are automated reactions. Reactions
caused by lifelong patterns and projections. Often our opinions
and beliefs systems are not ours! They're auto-suggestively
ingrained into us, both from a lifetime of social programming and
mental/emotional wounds that haven't been healed.

5. A FEELING OF ALIENATION, CAUSED BY BEING SO FAR

AWAY FROM OUR TRUE DIVINE SOURCE.
Our highest level of soul desires nothing but to connect and be
one with the Divine Light, our True Source shining deep within
us. In the physical world, our everyday experience and
awareness is usually quite removed from this Divine Source.
Hence we live in what Qabalists call a forgotten state leaving
us with an innate feeling of alienation.

Through the mystical path of Qabalah, we reconnect with that

Divine Source within us, and manifest the gifts and awareness,
here in this physical world, and not in some ethereal, abstract
fleeting celestial realms.

While we are in physical form, with our consciousness

trapped further and further from the Divine source, we
are all susceptible to the above causes of suffering.

Throughout this course, we will perform various exercises to

allow us to transcend the above causes of suffering, for unless
we do, the profound experiences of higher mystical awareness
that we seek will be forever unattainable and unknowable to us.

Qabalah is among the most ancient, powerful, complete, and versatile

systems of psycho-spiritual development available. And while at times
paradoxical, abstract, and theoretical, Qabalah is, at the same time,
eminently practical and applicable to all areas of our lives. This course
seeks to simplify much of the inherent confusions, and to present the
material in a direct, accessible manner for all.

QABALAH PROVIDES THE METHODS AND THE MEANS FOR US

TO DIRECTLY CONNECT TO THE DIVINE. MORE SPECIFICALLY,
TO ALL LEVELS OF THE DIVINE WHICH ALREADY EXISTS
FOREVER INSIDE US!

We must experience the wisdom of lifes lessons for ourselves. We

must walk our own gardens, swim our own oceans, drink of our own
wine. This takes not only discipline, but courage. In order
to heal and transcend ourselves, and consequently truly know and live
as our Selves, we must be willing to truly face ourselves.

And, while this can be a daunting task, in the end, we realize that our
fears are completely unfounded. Because all the things that limit our
lives and that obstruct us from experiencing our Divine right of Bliss,
Joy and Wisdom, are ILLUSIONS.

All fears and anxieties in life, are created by that ultimate

illusion: the illusion of separation and duality.

At the root of, and throughout all Creation and existence lies the
desire to return to PURE JOY! Because this is where we came from!
Returning to The Light of Pure, Divine Unity, the only thing real in the
entire universe. And how do we achieve this?
BY SEEING AND EXPERIENCING THE UNITY IN ALL DUALITY.

Qabalah is a living, breathing tradition. Its symbolism and archetypal

energies actually adapt to each individual, based on that individuals
own level of spiritual and psychological attainment! Sound crazy?
Well, these archetypes and energies already exist within the depths
of our own psyches! Well clarify this more as the course progresses.

Qabalah must be integrated into our everyday lives. Youll hear

me repeating this many times, because its critical. Its very easy to
get caught up in the theory (which is also important), while leaving the
true work itself on the back burner.

Qabalah is not philosophy!

Qabalah is not science!
Qabalah is not religion!

QABALAH IS A WAY OF LIFE.A WAY OF BEING!

With regular study and practice, the essence of Qabalah becomes

integrated into our everyday awareness. Integrated into how we
perceive ourselves and others, how we perceive events that we cannot
control, our special place in the world, and how we experience our own
unique relationship with The Divine.

The great news is that the attainment of spiritual mastery

is achievable by anyone, here, during this lifetime!

It requires doing the work, in the correct order, monitoring our own
progress, being brutally honest in our self discovery, and progressively
creating those subtle shifts in our awareness, so after a while, weve
reprogrammed how we respond to the things we were previously
conditioned to falsely perceive in this world.
Qabalah can be a challenging and confusing path for many people,
particularly in the beginning stages. That was certainly the case for
myself when I began in the mid-1990s, despite having some good
teachers and great study material along the way. Qabalahs teachings
can often be paradoxical and full of metaphor. As well see as the
lessons progress, this is intentional, and appropriate.

Our highest Truths cannot be comprehended by the logical mind,

and so therefore, other abstract, non-linear, counterintuitive
methods are required.

Learning Qabalah requires we read between the lines, and try to grasp
the deeper meanings with a deeper level of awareness, a level of
comprehension simply not available to our everyday rational, analytical
minds. This experience is a highly subjective one.

There is a well-known saying in the Western Mysteries:

Truths in the physical world are lies in the spiritual world.

And
Truths in the spiritual world are lies in the physical world.

So try to temporarily suspend assumptions, logic, reason, analysis, and

listen with that deeper, intuitive, eternal part of you.

For these reasons, Qabalah teaches, and can only properly express
through, the language of SYMBOLISM. We will be talking a great
about symbolism throughout this course.

Qabalah teaches its core principles almost entirely

through the language of SYMBOLISM.

SYMBOLISM is the only method that Qabalah CAN use!

Words, logic and reason are completely inadequate for conveying the
higher mystical truths required for deep spiritual insight.

A symbol is anything that represents a deeper, unknowable truth than

that as which it appears. It is, in effect, just a pointer, or
a doorway that points the direction. The difference between a
symbol and a fact is that a symbol is entirely subjective, unique to the
experience of each individual!

Symbolism is an extremely important topic in Qabalah, and in all of

mysticism and the arts, for that matter. Because while we exist with
our awareness in the physical, dualistic universe.

We live an ENTIRELY SYMBOLIC existence!!!

Even these biological shells we call our bodies, and these biochemical
processes we call our feelings, and these fleeting, neurotransmitting
vibrations we call thoughtsare all symbols! They are symbols
because though they may represent the ultimate reality of Us, but
they are not that reality in and of themselves!

Symbols are not just visuals! Symbols can be any of the following:

Images
Entities
Sounds
Words
Thoughts
Songs
Poems
Myths
Paintings

Stories

The reason that the above can all be true is because

Like everything in the universe, all symbols are ENERGY!

More specifically, an energy of varying degrees of VIBRATION.

Qabalahs deepest truths and treasures cannot be comprehended
logically. Nor taught, nor learned: Only realized through direct,
subjective experience.

And therein lays a major difference between symbols and facts:

Facts are generally either (a.) true or (b.) not true.

The same cannot be said for symbols, or those higher truths

that they represent! One cannot adequately ask if a painting,
or a poem, or even a certain person, is true.

All we can do is experience them for ourselves. And, if

we try to explain the essence of that experience to another,
particularly using words, we will inevitably fall short.

I strongly encourage the regular, daily practice of journaling.

Journal writing has proven to be an important, effective practice

of gauging progress accurately and methodically.

The teaching style we use in the West is worth noting. Here, the
student is given the complete picture of a topic up front, and the topic
is then analyzed, piece-by-piece, as the teachings progress.

So, we are in effect, working backwards. This method has the

advantage of context: a student is able to understand the context
the parts of the whole belong and interact with.

This is the opposite method often used in the East, where the student
is taught the individual parts, one at a time, each in complete isolation,
from the beginning. Like a jigsaw puzzle, the pieces are slowly put
together as the teachings progress. This is a common teaching style
used in the martial arts.
Neither method is right or wrong in itself. Each one has its
place, as well as its own advantages and disadvantages.

Any system of self-evolution contains inherent dangers and

potential roadblocks. Qabalah is no different.
When we work with Qabalahs symbolism, archetypes, and energies,
aspects of ourselves (memories, feelings, impressions, wounds, etc.)
that have been buried for a long time may surface without warning,
leaving us to deal with it. Other times, we may experience adverse
effects we did not expect. At worse, these are unpleasant and are
a natural part of the purifying process.

The solution to working safely is to take proper precautions and

safeguards, working a system in the correctly prescribed order,
and at the assigned pace.
For the above reasons, practicing ones spiritual work alongside
some other healing, such energy work or psychotherapy, is ideal.

The version of Qabalah we will be working with here is loosely

known as the Hermetic Qabalah; it is a relatively modern path,
from approximately the 1600s and continuing today. Although
our Hermetic Qabalah certainly builds on the foundations of

the traditional Judaic Kabbalah, (whose roots go back to ancient

times), and contains much of its core teachings, it does contain
symbolism and practices not found in the traditional version.
And of course, there are other branches of Qabalah as well. Qabalah
is an incredibly rich, diverse, and dynamic tradition, much of what we
will discover in the next lesson.

LESSON 1 MEDITATION The 3 Temples

This meditation is a standing exercise combining visualization

and breathing techniques. It is a great practice for grounding,
balancing one's energies through the usage of archetypal polarities,
and creating shift in consciousness conducive to later spiritual work.
This exercise utilizes symbolism from the Qabalah Tree of Life,
a topic we will explore in great detail throughout this course.

It is recommended one begin this meditation with a few minutes

of deep, relaxed, slow breathing. Breathe through the nose, back
straight, and breathing through the abdomen, while seated on a chair
with hands on lap and feet on the floor. Try to avoid leaning back on
the chair, but if you must, that's fine. It's important to be
comfortable.

After the initial relaxation phase stand with hands at the side,
and your feet together.

Imagine resting just above your head, a sphere, about the size of
a bowling ball, colored a blinding white light, actively radiating
and pulsing.
As you visualize and feel this sphere above your head,
contemplated it as being pure, Light, pure Unity, Pure Divinity,
pure Formlessness.
After doing this for about a minute, create another bowling ballsized sphere at your feet, half into the earth. See this sphere
as a solid black.
Imagine this sphere as being the opposite of the white sphere.
See this as pure solid form, pure physicality, and pure
manifestation. Hold this for about a minute.
Now, imagine at your heart center, another bowling ball-sized
sphere of golden yellow. Feel it pulsating and resonating warmth,
balance and harmony.
Feel this sphere at your heart center, balancing the extreme
opposites of the other 2 white and black spheres. Feel the
balance and harmony radiating throughout your entire body.
Now, imagine your entire aura, a few feet outside your body,
enclosing you in an egg-shaped brilliant white light.
Now, imagine the brilliant golden yellow radiance from your
hearth center sphere expanding outwards, while the egg of white
light around you enclosing you inwards, as the 2 colors blend and
penetrate your entire Being in pure, vibrant, loving, healing, and
balancing energy.

Hold this feeling for a minute or so.

The above exercise only takes a few minutes, and is a great practice
to perform at any time of the day when you need balancing and
grounding, or to release negative energy.
Try to do this meditation twice a day for this week.

LESSON 1 LIFE INTEGRATION EXERCISE

- ALL IS A MULTI-DIMENSIONAL, VIBRATING ENERGY.
Our first Life Integration Exercise involves re-training the way
we observe things in the physical universe in our everyday lives:

Notice everything in the universe, including objects, people,

energy, thoughts, etc., as simultaneously existing in 4 different,
multi-dimensional worlds. Imagine these 4 worlds as both linear,
and holographically connected to each other.
See each of these worlds as progressively less dense and more
formless than the previous worlds.
See each of these worlds as being concentric, one inside the
other, as if peeling off layers of an onion.
(i) See your object as having a dense physical aspect in the
first, most outermost world/layer.

(ii) See your object having a less dense, electromagnetic,

vibrational aspect, in the second world/layer, which is
below/within the first dense physical world.
(iii) See your object having an even less dense existence
in the third world, which lies both below and within the
second world. See your object (again, whatever the
object is: could be an image, a sound, a thought, a
physical object, etc) as a collection of energetic building
blocks and structures, such as atoms, molecules, sound
or light waves, etc.
(iv) See your object as having an even less dense existence
in the fourth world/layer, which lies both below and
within the fourth world/layer. See your object existing
as pure archetype, pure holy, unblemished, Divine Idea.

Now, imagine your object, thought, energy, feeling, etc, existing

in all these 4 worlds simultaneously, vibrating and interacting
with each other, never static and lifeless.

Apply this awareness to every possible thing in the

physical universe. Even a solid rock!

QABALAH: THE PATH TO

INNER MASTERY

LESSON 2
QABALAH FUNDAMENTALS
By Theodosios

What is Qabalah?

Qabalah is many things. Qabalah is primarily.

A system of mystical development.

But Qabalah is also.

A way of thinking.
A way of Being.
A level (or layer) of communication.

The precise origins and historical developments of Qabalah are,

much like Qabalahs teachings, mysterious and often conflicting.
Qabalahs roots go back perhaps 2500-3000 years, to an ancient
system of Jewish mysticism called The Merkabah, based on the visions
of the prophet Ezekiel in the Old Testament. Jewish Kabbalah really
began to take form around the 1st century A.D.
Listed below are some of the many branches of Qabalah; some of
these also have sub-branches:
TRADITIONAL JUDAIC KABBALAH
Contemplative Kabbalah mainly concerned with
interpretation of sacred texts via techniques like
numerology, etc.
Mystical Kabbalah - direct contact with the divine
through spiritual experience using meditative methods.
Practical Kabbalah using Qabalah symbolism and tools
for applied magical purposes and ceremony.
Lurianic Kabbalah by Isaac Luria in the 16th century;
concept of Creations contraction, breaking of the
vessels, etc; tends to be rather Gnostic in nature.

HERMETIC QABALAH
16th century to current; adds further attributions to the
Tree of Life: tarot, astrological, color, angels, deities, etc.,
plus many other practical techniques and symbolism. This
is the system of Qabalah we will be working in this course.
CHRISTIAN CABALA
This form began in the 13th century and was expounded by
mystics such as Raymond Lully. Largely Christian Gnostic
in nature. Primary focus is on the path of Christ as the
redeemer of the soul through the Tree of Life.

The spelling of the word denotes the branch of the system

Kabbalah Jewish mysticism
Cabala Christian mystical Kabbalah
Qabalah Hermetic Qabalah

Our Hermetic Qabalah is a harmonious synthesis of traditional Jewish

Kabbalah, ancient Greek and Egyptian Mysteries, Neo-Platonism,
Gnosticism, Rosicrucianism, and High Magic.

Qabalah is by no means a static, archaic system. It is a dynamic,

living, tradition that evolves alongside humanitys spiritual
aspirations, adapting uniquely to each individual's spiritual needs
at any given time!

QABALAHS PRIMARY SACRED TEXTS:

The Sepher Yetzirah 3rd-6th century C.E. in Palestine.

Authorship anonymous. Describes process of Creation via
the 22 letters of the Hebrew Alphabet.

The Bahir 12th century France. Authorship anonymous.

Description of the 10 Divine Emanations (The Sephirot).

The Zohar 12th century Spain. By Moses de Leon. Vast

treatise on Creation, nature of Divine, and especially, is a
mystical commentary on The Torah (1st 5 Books of Moses.)

The Tomer Devorah- by Rabbi Moses Cordovero, 16th

century Israel. Treatise on how we can partake in The
Divines Essence via The Sephirot.

A Garden of pomegranates also by Rabbi Moses Cordovero,

16th century Israel; a large discourse on Qabalahs teachings
up to that date.

SOME NOTED QABALISTS:

Traditional:
1st century: Simeon bar Yohai
12th century: Joseph Gikatilla, Moses de Leon.
16th century: Moses Cordovero, Isaac Luria, Chaim Vital.

Contemporary:
Henry Cornelius Agrippa, Eliphas Levi, Aleister Crowley,
S.L. McGregor Mathers, Dion Fortune, Israel Regardie, Chic
and Tabitha Cicero, Yehuda Ashlag, Zev ben Shimon Halevi

The primary teaching tools of Qabalah:

The Tree of Life A dynamic, multi-dimensional, symbolic model

that represents all the intricate interplay of energies that make
up both the creation of the outer material universe and the
operations of the human psyche.

The Aleph Beth The 22 Holy letters of the Hebrew Alphabet:

22 primordial energies/archetypes through which The Divine
created the manifested universe. Qabalists would later associate
The Aleph Beth with the 22 Paths of Wisdom and the 22 Major
Arcana of the Tarot. The basis for Gematria (which is Qabalistic
numerology).

The Sacred Texts - Cryptic, very open to interpretation.

Best studied under the direction of a qualified teacher.

The oral tradition The interpretation (but not the essence)

of which, changes and evolves through the ages. For millennia,
much of Kabbalah/Qabalah, existed primarily as a secret,
guarded, oral tradition only available to married men, over the
age of 40, financially, emotionally and mentally stable, and well
versed in Torah. This has since changed in modern times.

THE 3 ESSENTIAL STEPS OF QABALAH PRACTICAL WORK:

Visualize with The Imagination

Charge with Feeling
Direct with The Will
We will be working much with the above steps in this course.

Qabalahs Creation model:

All material existence emanated from single point of Nothingness
(or state of infinite state of possibilities), to the current, continuous
creation.

It is important to understand Creation not as an event

in time (or space), but as a continuous, ongoing process.

Light vs. Vessel: Much of Qabalahs teachings are about the

relationship between the concepts of The Light and The Vessel.
The Light is the active, boundless, formless, spiritual principle.
The Vessel is the receptive, limiting, manifest physical principle.

PRIMARY MANIFESTATION SEQUENCE

FROM NOTHINGNESS..
 TO UNITY
 TO DUALITY (POLARITY)
 TO ACTUALIZATION (SYNTHESIS)

These Creation/Manifestation process will be described in greater

detail in the next lesson. For now, just keep the above basic sequence
in the back of your mind.

Fundamental to Qabalah, are the following tenets:

EMANATION
The entire physical universe EMANATED from The Divine, from
a void of pure Nothing, and through successive, multi-dimensional
stages, Created the physical universe.

However, this term void is often misunderstood. This void, the

Nothingness, is not emptiness. Its a state of pure potentiality,
and infinite possibility. Either way, it is far beyond our ability to
comprehend, at least while we are in this manifest, physical body.
At this stage, things still didnt exist as we can comprehend.

POLARITY
This Emanation process proceeded through varying successive
degrees of Polarity. Polarity is the most fundamental expression
of division. In polarity, we simply have one principle, coupled
with its basic opposite. The most basic polarities are
positive/negative, masculine/feminine, yin/yang, etc.
The Principle of Polarity is at the heart of another Fundamental
Qabalah Tenet:

Everything in the manifested universe exists by the

interaction of 2 opposing forces which unite to create

a 3rd balanced force.
(from John Michael Greers Paths of Wisdom)

Sowhat/who exactly IS The Divine or God?

Qabalah offers a unique and very profound description of God,

The Light, The Divine, The Creator, The Source, etc.:
Every energy, every form, and every process in the outer universe
(and within us as well) follows the exact same 4-Fold process:

First - there is an active, limitless EXPRESSION

(Divine Father, Primal Fire)

Second - this EXPRESSION molds and restricts

into a FORM (Divine Mother, Primal Water)

Third - this FORM is put into a moving ACTION

(Divine Son, Primal Air)

Fourth - this ACTION creates a final MANIFESTION

(Divine Daughter, Primal Earth)

Within the context of the above description, we have 2 hierarchical

levels of polarity:

Polarity Pair A: Father and Mother

Polarity Pair B: Son and Daughter

Do you see how the second pair (B) is a lower (or lesser) polarity
(Active vs. Passive) expression of the first pair (A)?
The opposites principle is still there, all that has changed
is the rate of vibration!
A perfect example is the octave in Western music. A musical
note doubles its vibrations to manifest itself one octave higher.

Different level of expression....but same essence!

This idea is found throughout the entire teachings if Qabalah.

This is how the entire universe is created into Being! From
lesser, to progressively denser vibrations that began as the
original, primordial polarities!

About what many New Age writers are popularizing today as new
material, mystics have been teaching for thousands of years.
Modern physicists hold that at the origins of all matter, far
beneath and within the subatomic realms, are unimaginably tiny and
dense vibrating units of energy (which they call strings).

The above 4-Fold idea can be applied to anything.

For example, lets take the idea of going fishing and catching fish.
Your desire to go fishing is the EXPRESSION.
Your knowledge of fishing is the limiting, focused FORM.
The act of going fishing is the ACTION of fishing, and
The final fish you catch is the MANIFESTATION.

Reflective of the universe's multi-dimensional, holographic

structure, this 4-Fold process is as much concurrent as it is
consecutive. Also, it is as abstract as it is linear.
It represents every active process in the universe,
including things that appear as solid and static!

But most importantly for our purposes here, this

PROCESS is Qabalahs definition of G-O-D!
(Or, The Divine, The Light, etc).
When Qabalists speak of The Divines primary nature is
to Create, this is what they mean! Creation is thus, not
some isolated event that occurred at some moment in space
and time, but a constantly occurring, dynamic process!

Hence, The Divine is not a static thing, object, or entity...

...but a constantly occurring, dynamic PROCESS!

Many mystical traditions hold that the higher spiritual worlds are
much superior to the lower and inferior worlds, as if the physical
world is something to be escaped or transcended.
But Qabalah (like Alchemy), maintains a very different view:

To the Qabalist, the physical world is just as sacred

as the spiritual world!

After one reaches the spiritual heights and mystical insights,

they must be brought back down through the physical world
to be of any value!
Because it is in the physical worlds that the deepest secrets
and insights of the Divine wisdom reside and are to be found.

THE METHOD OF QABALAH MEDITATION

Meditation is perhaps the most vital tool used in Qabalah. The master
Qabalists were masters of meditation. Often, it is only in meditation
that we can enter into the state of consciousness necessary to
experience the higher mystical worlds and deeper truths about
ourselves, the universe, and The Divine.
Meditation is the process of our consciousness becoming
conscious of itself.

It is through the way of meditation that we shift our consciousness

from one level (or world) to the next. There are many methods
or styles of meditation that span mystical traditions; meditation
is ultimately a way of Being, not just Doing.

There are 2 main categories of meditation:

i) Active Meditation - utilizes the Creative Imagination and the
willed creation of mental images, as used in later pathworkings.
This is the style predominantly used in Qabalah meditation.

ii) Passive Meditation - the meditator seeks identification with the

object of the meditation by refining a passive, observing state of
awareness. This is the most common style used in Eastern Paths.

Qabalah meditation uses the faculty of the Active Imagination.

While certainly helpful, it is not essential to see things, like watching
a movie with your eyes closed. Some people see, some hear, some feel,
others just know intuitively. All faculties are equally effective; all can
be awakened and refined with practice.

ALL QABALAH MEDITATION BEGINS WITH THE

FOLLOWING SEQUENCE:
1.) Posture - Sitting comfortably in chair, back straight, lower
back tucked in, shoulders relaxed, chin tucked in slightly, feet
flat on floor hands on lap (like the seated pharaoh statues of
Ancient Egypt).
Breathing is performed only through the abdomen, and not
with the chest. This is for more effective oxygen integration.

The quality of the breath is:

1. Even and consistent
2. Slow
3. Quiet (no hissing)
4. Continuous (no pauses between in breath and out breath)

2.) Relaxation For a few minutes. This prepares the body

and mind by slowing down and increasing alertness,
improving focus. You can use any method you find
effective. This need not be a formal, elaborate process.
Some do Yoga, Qigong, slowly visualizing a ball of goldenwhite light rising slowly throughout the entire body,
gradually removing blockages and tension, etc.

3.) Rhythmic Breathing Also for a few minutes.

Rhythmic breathing is among the most effective meditation
tools for calming the mind.
In addition to relaxing the subtle bodies and nervous
system, and harmonizing blood and oxygen flow, it aligns
our vibrations with the vibrations of the outer universe,
and with those of the higher realms.
In Qabalah, we often combine our rhythmic breathing with
the use of a mantra. A mantra is typically a sacred word

(or just a sound) that aligns our own consciousness with

that The Divine.
Inhale slowly through nose for a count of 4, and without
pausing, exhale slowly for a count of 4. Again no pausing,
inhale a count of 4, etc. The duration of the seconds is
not important; what matters is they be consistent.
After few cycles, while continuing the breathing, begin
to mentally intone, in equal intervals, the name Yod-HehVav-Hay on the in breath, and Ah-Doh-Nah-Ee on the
out breath. Continue for a few minutes. Yod-Hay-VavHay is the highest 4-lettered name of The Divine. AhDoh-Nah-Ee translates literally into Lord.
At this point, we proceed to the meditation itself.

LESSON 2 MEDITATION The Tree of Life I

This meditation can be performed seated or preferably,
standing. All spheres should be visualized as the size of a
bowling ball. Try to hold each sphere for about 30-60 seconds
before moving to the next.

1. Imagine, resting on top of your head, a bowling ball sized sphere,

of blinding white.

2. Next, visualize a thin beam of white light from the white sphere,
diagonally down to the left of your face.
There, visualize a gray sphere.

3. Next, visualize a thin beam of white light from the gray sphere
straight through your head to the right side of your face.
Visualize this sphere as a deep black.

4. Next, visualize a thin beam of white light from the black sphere,
diagonall down to your left shoulder. On your left shoulder,
visualize a sphere of deep navy blue.

5. Next, visualize a thin beam of white light from your left

shoulder straight to your right shoulder. There, visualize
a sphere of deep, fire engine red.

6. Next, visualize a thin beam of white light from the red sphere,
down and diagonally to your heart center. There, visualize a
sphere of brilliant golden yellow.

7. Next, visualize a thin beam of white light from the yellow

sphere, down and diagonally to the area just outside of your
left hip. There, visualize a sphere of emerald green.

8. Next, visualize a thin beam of white light from the green sphere
directly through your body to the area outside your right hip.
There, visualize a sphere of orange.

9. Next, visualize a thin beam of white light from the orange

sphere diagonally down to the groin area. There, visualize a
sphere of purple.
10. Lastly, visualize a thin beam from the purple sphere straight
down towards the feet. There, visualize a sphere of very
dark earth tones.

Sit with this entire image in your mind for a couple minutes, feeling
all the active, dynamic interplay of the colors and spheres.
You have just created the Qabalah Tree of Life, a very important
symbol in Qabalah, in your aura. We will be spending much more time
with this foundational structure throughout the course.

LESSON 2 INTEGRATION EXERCISE

- SEEING EVERYTHING AS A DYNAMIC, EVOLVING PROCESS.

As per this lesson's dynamic 4-fold ongoing creative process, its

important to be aware of this process in every part of our lives.
As often as you can, for this week, try to apply the basic 4-fold
process of Creating....
1.
2.
3.
4.

Expression
Form
Action
Manifestation

...to everything you see, feel, thing of, and experience in the entire
universe. This also includes things that appear solid and static!
When we become aware of this fundamental process, we become
participants in the Divine Creation.

INNER MASTERY

LESSON 3
CREATION AND THE TREE OF LIFE

By Theodosios

CREATION VS. EMANATION:

In the Creation model, much favored by monotheistic traditions,
an external Creator creates the universe separately of itself.

Somewhat differently, Qabalah teaches that the universe came

into being by way of the Creator emanating itself out of Nothing.
This subsequently created the physical world into Something, via
a complex, dynamic process and structure of progressive, multidimensional stages, which is ultimately represented by..

THE QABALAH TREE OF LIFE!

These Divine stages are known collectively as the SEPHIROT
(pronounced sfee-ROTE)
which literally translate from Hebrew as either sapphires, or
as spheres. Singular: Sephirah (pronounced sfee-RAH).

The 3 Veils of Negative Existence (in order):

1. AIN literally Nothing; not even the concept of Nothing.

2. AIN SOPH Infinity; beyond all form and boundaries.

3. AIN SOPH AUR The Infinite Light.

So.In The Beginning, there was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!

We cant even think about or discuss this Nothing, because when
we do, we make it a something. Which it isnt. Its nothing!
This Nothing (AIN) became conscious of itself.
..and thus became Infinite (AIN SOPH).
In doing so, this act created the Infinite Light (the
AIN SOPH AUR).

Now, its critical to understand that the above 3 veils,

or stages/phases are unmanifest. They occur before
anything actually became anything!

They dont technically exist. At least, certainly not in any way we

can comprehend! There is no when or where they occur. They
occur in a realm beyond our experience of time and space.

Within this Nothingness, exists, as a pure potentiality, a unified

Divine Harmony of all the forces of the Universe beyond anything we
are capable of imagining. However, we do experience their function,
and without them, wed live a very different existence.

All 3 Negative Veils exist above the Tree of Life.

The Tree of Life is a symbolic model that represents both us

(with our different levels of soul and subtle bodies), and the entire
physical universe with all its layers as well.
The 3 Negative Veils lie forever above and beyond any type of
Manifestation, above and beyond any level of our awareness and
comprehension.

As we travel from Nothingness to Somethingness, we proceed to

Manifested Unity, then to the beginnings of Manifested Duality,
and on to complete Manifestation, which is the physical world as

we know and experience it.

Please review the above process until completely understood.

THE QABALAH TREE OF LIFE

The Tree of Life is simultaneously a symbolic map of both the universe
and the human Soul. It outlines the successive stages
of Creation, via the interplay of polarity, emanating from Unity
of the pure Spirit worlds to the duality of the Physical world.

The Tree is a model of dynamic, polarity interactions, and

as John Michael Greer describes in Paths of Wisdom,
a model of energy relationships.

But how can the Qabalah Tree of Life represent BOTH us AND the
universe? Isnt that a contradiction in terms?
Perhaps in one sense, but more importantly for us, it leads us to one
of Qabalahs most fundamental principles:
Everything which exists in the outer physical universe
is ultimately a reflection of everything that exists within
the depths of our own psyches!

The form of the Tree of Life aligns to the human body, with each of
the 10 Sephirot as very powerful energy centers. This is something
we will work with later, in our applied practical workings Qabalah.

The form of the Tree of Life also represents how all the forces
in the universe interact with one another to sustain physical existence
in a state of Divine Balance and Harmony.

THE QABALAH TREE OF LIFE CONSISTS OF

The 10 stages, the Divine Emanations (The Sephirot).
The 22 Paths of Wisdom (which link all the 10 Sephirot).
The 4 Qabalistic Worlds of the universe.
The 5 Levels of the Soul.
The Abyss separating Unity and Duality.
The Veil of Illusion, separating the Individual psyche from
the Collective Psyche.
The 3 Pillars of Polarity.
As energy travels DOWN the Tree of Life, from the top
Sephirah, to the bottom, bouncing from one Sephirah to another,
the energy is experiencing increasing density, via the interplay
of the different stages of the 2 fundamental opposing polarities:
positive and negative (or male and female, masculine and
feminine, on and off, yin and yang, etc. They are the same thing).

As energy travels UP the Tree of Life, the opposite holds

true: It becomes LESS dense, beginning at the bottom psychical,
and ending at the topmost spiritual worlds.

THE HOLY SEPHIROT: THE 10 DIVINE EMANATIONS

The 10 Sephirot are the multi-dimensional stages of Divine Emanation:

from pure Unity of Spirit, down to the dualistic, dense world of
matter. Each Sephirah is simultaneously:
An Emanation of The Divine, each with its particular quality.
A complete energy centre within itself.
A stage of human evolution/spiritual development.
A function of the human psyche.
A level of vibration in the universe.

Each of The Sephirot contains many attributes: God Names,

planets, numbers, colours, archangels, tarot associations,
virtues/vices, gemstones, incense, and deities.

The ultimate expression and the purest power of an individual

Sephirah is represented by its God Name, which are sources of
unimaginable power. The God Names are not merely labels.

THE GOD NAMES ARE THE SEPHIROT THEMSELVES!

The Sephirot are not separate 10 things; they are 10 different

expressions of the same Divine Unity.
(from David Goddards Tree of Sapphires)

Imagine a beam of light being shone through a succession of

gemstones. The light may change color based on the color of
that gemstone, (there does exist gemstones that behave this way),
but has the essence of the light truly changed? Think about it.
Each Sephirah is defined simultaneously by:
Its own inherent attributes and function.
Its relationship to the other Sephirot of The Tree of Life.
Its relationship to The Divine Light.

The Sephirot can be viewed as multi-dimensional stages of

manifestation: from pure Unity of Spirit, down to the dualistic,
dense world of matter.
Each Sephirah is both an inner human level of consciousness
and a stage of emanation of the outer universe.

EACH SEPHIRAH IS A PERFECTLY BALANCED ENERGY

WITHIN ITSELF.

There are several key parts that give each Sephirah its power:
Its God Name
Its Archangel Name
Its Colour
Its energetic function

Below (following the diagram) are the titles of the 10 Sephirot in

their order of emanation, from pure Unity of Spirit, to duality and
the physical world.

THE QABALAH TREE OF LIFE (with Sephirot colours)

KETHER (KEH-tair) - means CROWN

CHOKMAH (HOK-mah) - means WISDOM
BINAH (BEE-nah) - means UNDERSTANDING
CHESED (HEH-sed) - means MERCY
GEBURAH (Geh-VU-rah) - means SEVERITY
Tiphareth (Tee-FAIR-et) - means BEAUTY
NETZACH (NEH-tzak) - means VICTORY
HOD (HOE-D) means SPLENDOUR
YESOD (Yay-SOHD) means FOUNDATION
MALKUTH (MAL-khoot) - means KINGDOM

All the Sephirot and their associated energies and functions that
lie below Tiphareth are mortal; they are considered part of the
Individual Self, and perish at physical death.

All the Sephirot and their associated energies and functions that lie
above Tiphareth are eternal, a part of the Collective Psyche and
thus survive beyond physical death.

ALTHOUGH SEEMINGLY SHOWN AS SUCH, THE TREE OF LIFE

IS NOT HIERARCHICAL IN THE TRADITIONAL SENSE!

The higher Sephirot are in no way superior to the lower

And..
The lower Sephirot are in no way inferior to the higher.

The Sephirot are objective states of consciousness; The Paths

are subjective states of consciousness; each path partakes of the
qualities of both of the 2 Sephirot that it links.

Think of 4 people driving from Point A to Point B.

Both Points A and B are static locations; these are the Sephirot;
static, component states of consciousness.
But these 4 people can take 4 different paths; dynamic, fleeing
vehicles of awareness, totally subjective.

Trees are a universal symbol for life, fertility, and abundance.

All the energies and forces and their polar interplays on the Tree
of Life exist in each of us, whether active and balanced, or not.
Any given Sephirah has, at any given time, aspects of itself
in all the other Sephirot, and vice versa.

The Sephirot are the primary archetypal blueprints for the

planets. But The Sephirot are not the planets themselves.

Though often compared as such, The Sephirot are NOT the

same as chakras! The Chakras are located the spine, and
are associated with different functions and layers of the
energetic anatomy.

The 10 Sephirot are merely different aspects (and expressions)

of the same Divine Essence. Similarly, steam, water, and ice are
different aspects and expressions of the same physical elements,
as are wood, smoke and ashes.

Therefore, we are certainly not talking about 10 different Deities,

as some have criticized Qabalah of expounding.

The Principle of Balance: There are no value judgments on the Tree

of Life! No energy or level of consciousness is inherently good or evil
in itself; all are neutral in and of themselves.

All energies, whether in the outer physical universe, or within or

psyches, can only be in one of two states of existence:

Balanced.orUnbalanced.

Each Sephirah is a perfectly balanced energy center, but also has its
potential shadow side; its unbalanced form. Example:

Balanced Chesed is love and compassion.

Unbalanced Chesed is excessive weakness and apathy.
Balanced Geburah is courage, justice, and discernment.
Unbalanced Geburah is cruelty and lack of empathy.

And, in Qabalah, when we refer to imbalance, we inevitably are

referring to a state of excess.

When a force or energy becomes excessive, it becomes

dysfunctional and destructive.

SCALING THE TREE OF LIFE

The Path of the Flaming Sword Path of Creation, evolution, the

outer universe: the macrocosm. The path The Divine Light traveled
down the Tree of Life towards material manifestation, progressively
becoming denser.
The Path of the Serpent The path of redemption, our inner
psyche: the microcosm. This is the path WE travel, in reverse
order, up the Tree, back to Unity with The Divine.

Attainment of Illumination or Divine Union via way of The Serpent

is not the annihilation of the Individual Self. All the parts of the
various levels of Self still exist! The difference now, is they are in a
state of balance within themselves, with each other, and with The
Divine. The instincts and desires are no longer a function of The Ego,
but of the True, Eternal Self. Here, Qabalah differs from other
(particularly some Eastern) mystical paths.

Because, while we ARE all parts of the Tree of Life

(which is Manifest), we are NOT any of the 3 Veils of
Negative Existence (which are UNManifest!)

LESSON 3 MEDITATION TREE OF LIFE II

Following the meditation prerequisites of relaxation, breathing,
and maintaining the proper seated posture, eyes closed

Imagine, resting on top of your head, a bowling ball sized sphere,

of blinding white. Contemplate the attributes of
pure Divinity, pure Unity, pure Formlessness.

Next, visualize a thin beam of white light from the white sphere,
diagonally down to the left of your face. There, visualize a gray
sphere. Contemplate the attributes of pure initiating expression.

Next, visualize a thin beam of white light from the gray sphere
straight through your head to the right side of your face.
Visualize this sphere as a deep black. Contemplate the
attributes of pure Form.

Next, visualize a thin beam of white light from the black sphere,
diagonall down to your left shoulder. On your left shoulder,
visualize a sphere of deep navy blue. Contemplate the
attributes of pure Expansion.

Next, visualize a thin beam of white light from your left shoulder
straight to your right shoulder. There, visualize a sphere of
deep, fire engine red. Contemplate the attributes of pure
Limitation and Boundaries.

Next, visualize a thin beam of white light from the red sphere,
down and diagonally to your heart center. There, visualize a
sphere of brilliant golden yellow. Contemplate the attributes
of pure Radiance, Balance and Harmony.

Next, visualize a thin beam of white light from the yellow sphere,
down and diagonally to the area just outside of your left hip.
There, visualize a sphere of emerald green. Contemplate the
attributes of pure Desire and Feeling.

Next, visualize a thin beam of white light from the green sphere
directly through your body to the area outside your right hip.

There, visualize a sphere of orange. Contemplate attributes

of pure Logic, Reasoning, and Thinking.

Next, visualize a thin beam of white light from the orange

sphere diagonally down to the groin area. There, visualize a
sphere of purple. Contemplate the attributes of the psychic
intuition, the dream world, and the emotions.

Lastly, visualize a thin beam from the purple sphere straight

down to the feet. There, visualize a sphere of very dark
earth tones. Contemplate the attributes of pure Physicality,
Duality, Manifestation, and Completion.

Next, imagine just to the right side of your body, a black

pillar beginning at the ground, and ending at your shoulder.

Then, imagine just to the left side of your body, a white

pillar beginning at the ground, and ending at your shoulder.

Finally, imagine along the centerline of your body, beginning

at your feet and ending at the white sphere just above your
head, a radiant golden pillar harmonizing the extremes of the
black and white pillars.

Sit with this image for a few minutes, and try to both see and
feel the dynamic interplay of the polarity of the colors, the
attributes and the pillars.

LESSON 3 INTEGRATION EXERCISE

- WHO IS AWARE
For the next week, as much as possible, simply notice and be aware
of the part of You that is doing the living, the feeling, the seeing,
the acting, the dreaming, the thinking, the reading, listening, etc.
Notice whenever your automatically (almost involuntarily) react to
an image, an event, an idea, a certain person, for positive OR for
negative. Try to identify which part of you is doing the reacting.
You will eventually realize the parts of you that you previously
identified as being You, are things that you merely experience
But they are not who your truly ARE.
This can be practiced anywhere, whether it's sitting in meditation,
or walking, cooking, waiting for the bus, anything at all.

The Tree of Life Divisions and Boundaries within our psyche

The below descriptions assume the downward flow of energy from

Pure Spirit into the Pure Physical: The Path of the Flaming Sword.

The first 3 Sephirot (Kether, Chockmah, Binah) are the Realm

of UNITY and Pure Spirit.

These 3 Sephirot are often called The 3 Supernals.

Kether represents Unity in its Existential aspect.
Chockmah represents Unity in its Active aspect.
Binah represents Unity in its Passive aspect.
(from David Goddard, The Tree of Sapphires)
Everything below the 3 Supernals, beginning with Chesed and
ending with Malkuth, is the realm of DUALITY.
The interface separating the above worlds of UNITY from
the below worlds of DUALITY is Daath (Knowledge), also
known as The Abyss.

The next 3 Sephirot (Chesed, Geburah, Tiphareth) are

the Collective Psyche of all humanity. Microcosmically,
the represent The Memory, The Will, and The Imagination
respectively. These qualities do not disappear with human
mortality. They are stored in the Collective Psyche, hence
make reincarnation possible. Chesed is the beginning of
DUALITY (or at least, the illusion of).
The above 3 Sephirot are, appropriately, the 3 primary colors!

The bottom 4 Sephirot (Netzach, Hod, Yesod, Malkuth)

are the Personality within a single person. Microcosmically,
they are the human emotions, thoughts, insights, and the 5
senses. All of these perish at physical death.

Separating Tiphareth from the bottom 4 Sephirot, lies the Veil

of the Paroketh, also called the Veil of Illusion.

The Veil of The Paroketh is, in effect, more an interface, or stage,

than an actual physical or energetic boundary.

The Veil of Paroketh divides the Individual Self from the

Collective Self.

Normally, it is only the bottom 4 Sephirot, below The Veil, that most
of us experience in our everyday lives. However
Through spiritual work and working the Tree of Life, we can access
the higher Sephirot and tap into the Collective psyche of humanity.

THE TREE OF LIFE THE 3 PILLARS OF POLARITY

PILLAR OF FORCE (Right Side): Active, Expansive, Male, White.

PILLAR OF FORM (Left Side): Passive, Restrictive, Female, Black.
PILLAR OF EQUILIBRIUM (Middle): Reconciling Opposites, Gold.

Manifestation requires the action, and the interaction of,

both expansion and constriction; in order to take place.

(Please note for the above example, for the locations of left and
right, we are facing the Tree of Life, not looking away from it.)

For example: in the case of a thought, we need the expansive

aspect to create the thought, and the limiting, restrictive aspect
to focus and differentiate the thought from being anything else.
The same sequence applies to all processes!

The 3 Pillars, through which all energies on the Tree of Life

pass, represent the ultimate expressions of what we experience
as polarity. Male vs. Female, Active vs. Passive, Positive vs.
Negative, Yin vs. Yang, etc. These are just terms we use to
differentiate. They all mean the same thing.

The ultimate harmony is the Middle Pillar, which is the

reconciler of both extreme pillars; the ultimate Unity.
The Sephirot along the Middle Pillar reconcile the extreme
of the of 2 side pillars of polarity.
Only The Middle Pillar spans the entire spectrum of The Tree of
Life, all 4 Worlds, and all 5 Levels of The Soul from the lowest of
physicality, Malkuth, to the heights of spiritual Unity, Kether.

The path of the mystic, regardless of system, is ultimately

the pursuit of the reconciliation of opposites! When one
experiences the Unity within the illusion of Duality, one
directly experiences the essence of The Divine.

The Pillars can simultaneously be thought of as both compliments

and opposites to each other:

Everything on the Pillar of Force is about UNITING.

Everything on the Pillar of Form is about SEPARATING.
Everything on the Pillar of Equilibrium is about transcending
extremes of the above, and HARMONIZING.

LESSON 4 MEDITATION THE ARCHANGELS

This meditation invokes the 4 Great Archangels to surround and
protect us. It can be used anytime we feel the need for protection
and a connection with these awesome Beings of Divine Light.
The Archangels are servants of the Divine. Unlike other levels
of beings, entities, etc, they do not possess free will themselves.
The Archangels are very powerful Beings which should always be
approached with the highest respect and reverence.

There are many Archangels, and each has its own function and
Divine purpose. The 4 Great Archangels are the principle rulers of
the 4 cardinal directions, and of the 4 Elements.

Following the meditation prerequisites of relaxation, breathing,

while maintaining the proper seated posture, eyes closed

Say with conviction, either out loud, or mentally:

May the great archangel Raphael stand before me. Raphael
represents the divine healing force of God, and is the ruler of
Elemental AIR. See him standing before bright orange.

Feel Raphael in his awesome presence, ready to protect at all times,

before in you in robes of yellow and purple. He floats in an endless
abyss of pure air. In his left hand, he holds the caduceus wand of
medicine. Feel the cool breeze of air swishing your front side, clearing
all negative thoughts.
Say with conviction, either out loud, or mentally:
May the great archangel Gabriel stand behind me. Gabriel
represents the power and strength of God, and rules human
communications and Elemental WATER. See Gabriel standing behind
you, upon an endless ocean. She is standing in robes or light blue
and orange. In her left hand, she holds a silver cup. Feel the mist
of water splashing upon your back side, purifying you and washing
away any negative emotions.

Say with conviction, either out loud, or mentally:

May the great archangel Michael stand on my right.

Michael represents Divine generosity and is the protector of the

Archangels and of mankind. He is the ruler of Elemental FIRE. See
him standing on your right-hand side, draped in robes of red and light
green. He stands in field of fire.
Feel the blazing, dry heat on your right side, burning away any
impurities in you. Michael holds in his right hand, a blazing sword.

Say with conviction, either out loud, or mentally:

May the great archangel Uriel stand to my left. Uriel represents
the Divine Light, Forgiveness and Creativity. See her standing, tall
and powerful, in the middle of a huge fertile field, with large, flowing
mountains far away in the background. She stands there very tall, in
robes of earth tones, holding a chaff of wheat in her left hand.

Feel the awesome heavy, cooling, stabilizing power of the element

of Earth, beaming from behind Uriel towards you as a dark green
ray. Feel the Element of Earth stabilizing, grounding your thoughts,
your emotions, and your entire being.
Feel the awesome, exhilarating power of the 4 mighty archangels
surrounding you. Sink into the experience of this divine embrace.

Picture a sphere of pure, brilliant, white light above your head, and
say: May the Light of The Divine shine above me and all around.

Sit for a few minutes in this blissful, balanced state, knowing you are
surrounded by The Light of The Divine, and the protection of the
Archangels. Know they are ready to assist you, by your side, whenever
they are called.

When ready, take a few deep breaths, slowly open your eyes.
Record any experiences in your journal.

LESSON 4 - INTEGRATION EXERCISE

- INDIFFERENCE TO PRAISE AND CRITICISM
If we are to make progress on the spiritual path, it is vital that
we achieve a centered, balanced state, completely immune to all
praise or criticism. Particularly those that come from ourselves.
It is equally important for us to not also be critical or praising of
others. Praise and criticism are solely the domain of The Ego, and
are ultimately rooted in judgment, and in duality.
For the next week
Try to be mindful of each instance you criticize or praise anyone
or anything. We do this more often than we may realize, and
sometimes it is cleverly disguised indirectly.
Each time you hear someone else criticize or praise you, or,
if you notice yourself criticizing or praising you, simply assert
yourself by stating repeatedly, with conviction, the following:

Regardless of how things may appear, I am absolutely

perfect just as I am; I am a Being of Divine Light.

QABALAH: THE PATH TO

INNER MASTERY

LESSON 5
THE 4 ELEMENTS, THE 4 QABALISTIC
WORLDS, AND THE 5 LEVELS OF THE SOUL
By Theodosios

THE 4 ELEMENTS OF THE WESTERN MYSTERIES

Qabalah, (and more specifically, The Zohar) teaches that all physical
existence was created by, and is maintained in a balance through, the
harmonious interaction of the 4 Elements.

The 4 elements do not represent the physical elements

of the same name!

The 4 elements are symbolic representations of the

interaction of physical forces at the energetic level.

Fire The active, heating, drying principle. Qualities are

Hot and Dry. The Divine Father. In the human psyche,
Fire represents the INTUITION.

Water The magnetic, binding, nourishing principle. The

emotions. Fertility. Qualities are Cool and Wet. The Divine
Mother. In the human psyche, Water represents the FEELING
FUNCTION. Ruler of elemental Water is the Archangel Gabriel.

Air The active, separating, clarifying principle. Qualities are

Hot and Wet. The Divine Son Male. In the human psyche, Air
represents the THINKING FUNCTION. Ruler of elemental
Air is the Archangel Raphael.

Earth The manifesting, limiting principle. Comes from

the union of Fire and Water with Air. Qualities are Cool
and Dry. The Divine Daughter. In the human psyche, Earth
represents the SENSATION FUNCTION (the 5 senses).

THE 4 ELEMENTS ARE INTRINSICALLY MAINTAINED, AND

HARMONIZED, BY THE ALL-PERVASIVE 5TH ELEMENT OF
SPIRIT. SPIRIT ACTS LIKE A MALLEABLE GLUE THAT KEEPS
THE 4 ELEMENTS WORKING TOGETHER.

Without this regulating, 5th element of Spirit, the 4 elements could

never sustain the physical universe. Spirit acts as an omnipresent,
yet abstract, unifying field.

Just as the 10 Sephiroth are 10 different expressions of the same

Divine Light, The 4 Elements can equally be thought of as 4 distinct
implementations of the same Divine Light source:

Fire represents The Divine in its radiant aspect.

Water represents The Divine in its liquid aspect.
Air represents The Divine in its gaseous aspect.
Earth represents The Divine in its synthesizing aspect.
- (from David Goddards book The Tree of Sapphires.)

THE TETRAGRAMMATON

At the heart of Qabalah symbolism, lies a formula within the context

of the Hebrew alphabet, called the Tetragrammaton (literally, Greek
for the 4-lettered name). The Tetragrammaton is the formula which
expresses and manifests the 4 elements into physical existence.
The Tetragrammaton is the highest, holiest name of The Divine!

The 4-letter Holiest Name of God represents the universal

4-Fold process of Manifestation and Creation of the universe.
The Tetragrammaton, or YHVH, is a powerful symbol for
meditation; its true pronunciation is forever unknowable.
It is pronounced (right-to-left) Yohd-Hay-Vav-Hay. These
are simply the actual Hebrew letters of the Name itself.

The Tetragrammaton is not pronounced Yahweh, or Jehovah,

or Havayah, as is often taught. The Tetragrammaton is not a
word in any traditional sense. It is a pure expression. It is a
state of Being. It is the complete EXPERIENCE of the Divine!

The Tetragrammaton pictured above in the Hebrew letters.

(Hebrew, unlike English, is read right-to-left):

Y Yod is the first ACTIVE spark of energy, desire; the primal

initiating force. The letter Yod means fist. The Divine Father.
The Element of FIRE.

H Heh is the environment where the energy of Yod manifests itself.

The existing pattern of all things, the stabilizer of the force: it
becomes a FORM. Heh means window, the receptive.
The Divine Mother. The Element of WATER.

V Vav is the act of the union of Yod and Heh, the principle of
ACTION. Vav means nail, represents progress. The Divine Son.
The Element of AIR.

H The MANIFESTATION of the creative process sparked by first

3 letters above. The Divine Daughter. Element of EARTH.

The First 2 letters, YH represent The Divine in its abstract

aspect. Divine Father and Divine Mother reconciled.
The Second 2 letters, VH represent The Divine in its absolute
aspect. Divine Son and Divine Daughter reconciled.

THE PENTAGRAMMATON

The 5-LETTERED NAME OF CHRIST- CONSCIOUSNESS

(represented by letter Shin), IMPLANTED IN MATTER.
IS PRONOUNCED (left-to-right) Yeh-Heh-Shoe-Ah.
When we use the word Christ here, we do not necessarily imply a
figure of history, but a level of consciousness within everyone.

The Holy Spirit is symbolized by the letter shin. Therefore, when

one has invoked their Holy Guardian Angel, or SHIN, one has caused
the decent of Spirit into matter, invoked The Higher Self, implanted
Spirit into the elemental name of the Tetragrammaton. Thus, a new
being is formed, YhshVH, Yeheshua, the resurrected god, Christ,
Osiris, Dionysus, in whom the birth of Spirit has equilibrated the base,
unredeemed elements of matter. This new word, produced by placing
shin in the middle of yod-heh-vav-heh, is yod-heh-shin-vav-heh, usually
transliterated as YHShVH: Yeheshua (also translated as Yoshu or
Joshua). While this was not an uncommon name, and indeed was the
name of the man who succeeded Moses as the leader of Israel,
Christian influence on the Western Mystery Tradition highlighted that
this is the name of Jesus in Hebrew (Jesus is Greek form of Joshua,
means the Lord Saves.)
(from Israel Regardies A Garden of Pomegranates)

Both the Tetragrammaton and the Pentagrammaton are used

throughout Qabalah, both in the forming of Divine Names, and
as powerful objects of meditation in and of themselves.

THE FOUR QABALISTIC WORLDS

The formula of YHVH sub-divides the macrocosm (the outer
universe), into 4 multi-dimensional levels of Creation, what
Qabalah calls the 4 Worlds (also called "Four Universes").

These 4 Worlds can divide the Tree in 2 different ways:

As each individual world containing an entire Tree of Life of

its own, laid upon one another, hence Creation consisting of 4
Trees. This is a further study on each Sephirah containing all
10 Sephirot within itself. This can be compared to a hologram,
where each part of the hologram contains the entire whole.

As the 4 different worlds overlaid upon a single Tree of Life,

in a linear fashion.

Both seemingly paradoxical descriptions are equally valid, as the

Tree of Life exists as a multi-dimensional representation.
While the names and positions of the Sephirot within the Tree

of each world stays the same, their relationship and function within
each Tree differs considerably.

THE FOUR QABALISTIC WORLDS ARE:

ATZILUTH (Ah-Tzee-LOOT) consists of Sephiroth of
KETHER, CHOCKMAH, and BINAH
The World of Emanation, the world of archetype, Pure Spirit.
It exists in a state of Pure Being and Potential,
and all other worlds emanate from it. Letter Yod, Primal
fire. Deity. In the Tarot, the Suit of Wands. Beyond
mortal comprehension. Psychologically, it could be viewed
as the Collective Unconscious, described by Carl Jung.
Secret name for Atziluth is Aub.

BRIAH (Beh-REE-Ah) consists of Sephiroth CHESED,

GEBURAH, and TIPHARETH.
The World of Creation. This is the world where matter begins
to condense, "solidify", and to acquire specific, distinguishable
qualities of it's own. For humans, this is the world of the
emotions. The World of the archangels, letter Heh, Primal
Water. In the Tarot, the Suit of Cups. Also beyond mortal
comprehension. Psychologically, can be viewed as the Personal
Unconscious. Secret name for Briah is Seg.

YETZIRAH (Yeh-TZEE-Rah) consists of the Sephirot

NETZACH, HOD, and YESOD
The World of Formation. This is where actual separation
and division of the Form created in Briah occur. Subtle patterns
and blueprints for matter. The world of the angels. For humans,
the realm of the intellect, where thoughts feelings and biofunctions Form. Hebrew letter Vav, Primal Air, In Tarot, Suit
of Swords. Psychologically, can be viewed as the Subconscious.
Secret name for is Mah.

ASSIAH (Ah-SEE-AH) consists of Sephirah MALKUTH.

The World of the physical. Second letter Heh. In Tarot, the
suit of Pentacles, primal Earth. Psychologically, could be seen
as Conscious Mind. Secret name for Assiah is Ben.

Each Sephirah exists in all the 4 Worlds, though its essence and
function changes in each world. Likewise, each of the 4 Worlds
has its own colors for the Sephirot.

There exists a 5th World, in many Qabalistic paths, particularly that

of Isaac Luria. That World is called Adam Kadmon, and lies above
the world of Atziluth. Adam Kadmon is the Primordial Archetypal
Human, the absolutely perfect cosmic blueprint for humanitys
creation. Adam Kadmon is an unmanifested realm.

In a distributed, holographic sense, we individual human beings are

descended from this cosmic, and it is within our Divine Purpose to

re-unite The Sparks. Adam Kadmon is pure Divine Light, and way
beyond our ability to comprehend or imagine.
Though not critical to work with at this level, its important to keep
in the back of ones mind that, the universe is holographic and multidimensional. Therefore

We have the qualities of each of the 10 Sephirot, existing in each

of the others!
Likewise, we have all 4 worlds existing both within one another and
above one another!

THE 5 LEVELS OF THE SOUL

The formula of YHVH also divides the microcosm (the inner psyche)
into the 5 Levels of the Soul. The attributions (and likewise,
boundaries between) the spheres, should be thought as general
guidelines, not absolutes.

In reality, there are no objective boundaries between any of the

levels; each world and soul level flows harmoniously into all others.

The Yechidah (Yeh-hee-DAH) The Ultimate Divine Source.

Corresponds to the sphere KETHER. A state of pure Being,
pure Spirit, and pure Unity; it is not part of the individual human

soul, but of the universal Spirit within all Creation. At this

state, the concept of individual does not exist. The human
experience is that of pure Unity.

The Chiah (Ha-YAH) The Divine Life-Force. Consists of the

sphere of CHOKMAH. This concept embraces all Creation, as
all of Creation is in a constant state of growth and development.
The Chiah is our Highest aspiration, the active part of our
Divine Unity, which constantly desires to connect with The
Divine. The human experience is that of the realization of the
Divine Absolute.

The Neshamah (Neh-sha-MAH) The Divine Soul Intuition.

Consists of the sphere of BINAH. Like The Chiah above,
The Neshamah exists as one of the 3 Supernals, and hence
as part of the universal consciousness. The Neshamah
represents our Divine Nature, no matter how hidden and inactive.
The human experience of The Neshamah is deep mystical insight.

The Ruach [Roo-AH-(hard h)] The Personal Soul. Consists

of the spheres of CHESED, GEBURAH, Tiphareth, NETZACH,
and HOD. The portion of ones self consisting of sensations,
perception, thoughts, emotions, and desires. The Ruach is in
effect, the False Self, which thinks it is the Real Self. The
human experience is that of Feeling.

The Nefesh (Neh-FESH) The Animal Soul. Consists of

the sphere of YESOD. Often referred to as the reptilian brain,
The Nefesh responsible for our primal instincts designed for our

own survival. The Nefesh regulates our essential functions of

cell formation, sleep, oxygen and blood flow, etc. The Nefesh
forms the link between the physical body and the Ruach. The
human experience of The Personal Ego, and the Prima Instincts.

LESSON 5 MEDITATION - THE DIVINE SPARK IN ALL

Qabalah as a whole, teaches that each of us in this world contains a
pure, holy spark of The Divine. No matter how seemingly hidden!
There is a beautiful teaching in The Zohar that says: When we harm

others, we harm that spark of ourselves that exists in everyone else.

And when we harm ourselves, we also harm that part of other that is
within us. The same principle applies for healing others and ourselves.
It is our sacred duty and destiny to liberate and raise the sparks
from the world of matter, as Isaac Luria taught in the 16th century.
In order to do so, we must learn to see outward appearances and
actions of both other people and ourselves. This is a large step to
releasing ourselves from judgment and cultivating forgiveness.
Forgiveness after all, is always about mending ourselves.
Forgiveness has nothing to do with excusing or absolving an
unacceptable act. It is about releasing ourselves from the chains
of resentment and pain that bind us to that person and/or event,
so that we may heal, release, and move on.

The following meditation helps us cultivate the spiritual virtues of

forgiveness, detachment and inner peace, by helping us to honor
and connect with that Divine Spark in us all, regardless of whom.
This meditation helps us overcome a major cause of human suffering,
that of refusing to accept others as they are, or because of what
they may have done.
Following the preliminary stages of proper Posture, Relaxation,
Rhythmic Breathing, we proceed with the meditation
Imagine yourself in an open field. Build up the imagery in this
field in any way you wish. Spend a minute immersing yourself in
the scenery, the sounds, the scents, etc.

Now, create three images standing in the field before you:

The first image is an image of yourself.
The second image is an image of someone youve never met.
This can be an image of anyone, male, female, old, young, etc.
The third image is an image of someone you dislike.

See these 3 images standing before you, with yourself standing in

the middle, holding hands with the other two images on either side
of you. See them all exactly as you are. Dont try to embellish and
denigrate any of their attributes. Just observe them all standing
there, without judgement.
Say to yourself, either out loud or mentally:

Whatever appears on the outside is simply a biological shell.

Whatever wrong anyone does, is the work of the Ego.
I completely forgive, accept, and love everyone unconditionally.
For within us all shines a pure, holy spark of The Divine.

Feel a brilliant radiance and warmth resonating in the area around

your heart. See this radiance, connecting with the same warm,
brilliant, loving radiance in the hearts of all the 3 images standing
in the filed before you.

Notice how it feels to let go and to be completely free of the chains

of criticism and praise, and judgment, looking at the inner soul,
connecting with the purity of the Divine sparks in us all. Sit for a
moment in this feeling of forgiveness, understanding, acceptance,
and connectedness. Notice the effect it has on you. Take a few deep
breaths, slowly bring your awareness back to the room back
to where youre sitting, and slowly open your eyes.

Record any insights or experiences in your journal. They real power

of this meditation, like all others, is when we incorporate it into our
daily lives. You may recite this to yourself whenever you see or think
of another human, or about yourself. Rather than rushing to judgment
(which again, equally includes both criticism and praise), remind
yourself through this simple exercise to connect to that Divine spark
within everything and everyone.

LESSON 5 INTEGRATION EXERCISE

THE DIVINE SPARK IN ALL

Your task for this week is to take the practice and experience in
the above meditation into the outside, everyday, mundane world.
Whenever you can, each time you see or think of anyone, yourself
included: Instead of rushing to judgment and assumptions about
anyone, try to, before anything else, connect with that Divine Spark
within them. It can be anywhere, at work, at the grocery store,
walking down the street, through the park, etc.
Remind yourself constantly when seeing anyone:

Whatever appears on the outside is simply a biological shell.

Whatever wrong anyone does, is the work of the Ego.
I completely forgive, accept, and love everyone unconditionally.
For within us all shines a pure, holy spark of The Divine.

Eventually what will happen (and this is certainly our goal here), is
that the above will become an automatic reaction, as we program
our energetic anatomy to be a vehicle for our sacred journey.
This deceptively simple practice will go along way in cultivating the
proper internal state necessary for progress on the spiritual path.

QABALAH: THE PATH TO

INNER MASTERY

LESSON 6
QABALAH MANIFESTING AND MAGIC

By Theodosios

This lesson describes the methodology, tools, and symbolism used in

Qabalistic practical working. The following lesson, Lesson 7, describes
the actual process and working itself.

Magic is the process of using abstract symbolism to create

change in either our consciousness or the universe.

Magic is a state of consciousness that we must achieve and

Become, not an act that we merely perform.

We desire, we think, we act, we create. This is magic.

This is YHVH. This is The Divine!

In Qabalah, we never seek to influence other people or events through

the use of spells. Instead

We work with the energies of the Sephirot to balance those

aspects of ourselves that are preventing us from attracting
the things in life that we seek.

This includes everything from Sephirot workings, consecrating

talismans, self- initiation, astral travel, energy healing, and elaborate
rituals involving elemental, planetary workings.

Magic can be performed either externally through ritual, or

internally through meditation.

With every practitioner lies the sole responsibility and consequences

of every magical act they engage. This includes all
our thoughts, feelings and actions, for they too, are magical acts!
The most critical factor is your INTENTION!

All entities, energies, and symbols are ultimately aspects

of our own psyche! They ARE ALL A PART OF US!!!!

The 3 fundamental faculties of Qabalistic magic:

The Imagination
The Feelings
The Will

The 4 fundamental stages of Qabalistic magic:

Visualize the images,

Vibrate the sacred names,
Feel the energies, and
Focus with our intention.

2 Styles of Qabalistic magic:

Invocation - the act of awakening and manipulating energies,
archetypes and entities within us.
Evocation - the act of awakening and manipulating energies,
archetypes and entities outside of us.

Magical acts fail for several reasons:

(from John Michael Greers book Paths of Wisdom)
Magic works according to scale, thus follows physical laws.
Magic works in accordance with the natural laws of the universe.
The determining factor in the outcome of any magical act
is the ability practitioner; not the tools or the ritual and/or
meditation itself.

Everything in the universe is an energy vibrational frequency:

This includes all matter, images, archetypes, sounds, actions, and
thoughts in both visible and invisible worlds.
In the physical world, all we experience is ultimately symbolic.
Nothing we ever experience is the Reality itself.
This is because everything we perceive is via our own PERCEPTION.
And ultimately, as Carl Jung so eloquently stated.

PERCEPTION IS PROJECTION!
All our perceptions are based on our own experiences.
Working with symbols in Qabalah practical work helps erase the
illusory boundary between the outer and inner worlds, between
individual consciousness and the collective consciousness.

Remember that in Qabalah, every energy is only in either

a state of balance or imbalance. A Sephirot represents a
neutral force perfectly balanced in and of itself.
An unbalanced energy does not necessarily imply a lacking,
or surplus of its opposite (though that may the case, it is
not the primary problem);

It implies an imbalance of that specific Sephirotic energy within

the human psyche.

Vibrations seek and/or create similar vibrations; this is

the principle of Harmonic Resonance. This is how healing
works. Consequently, this is also how evil grows in the world.
Consequently, we need to be very careful with our thoughts
and feelings, for they too, are just vibrations!
What one attracts, one manifests into their universe.

By names and images all powers are awakened and reawakened.

Israel Regardie, The Golden Dawn

A very powerful tool for awakening and directing internal

symbols to manifestation is the use of sound. This includes
chanting, singing, the use of Divine Names, and vibrating.

The primary tool in Qabalah magic is the Active Imagination.

When combined with feeling, visualization, sounds, and intention,

this creates a very powerful effect.

However, without a stable, grounded foundation, imagination quickly

degenerates into wishful thinking or fantasy.

A sure indication of fantasy is an obvious glorification of Ego.

With Qabalah magic, many believe it is imperative to actually see

things in ones minds eye. This is a common misunderstanding.

Some people see things naturally (Clair voyance)

Some hear (Clair audience)
Some feel (Clair sentience)
Some just know (Clair cognizance)
All 4 faculties are equally effective.
All 4 faculties can be refined with practice.

It is important when working with the Active Imagination, that we

be in a centered, relaxed state of consciousness. With chaotic
thoughts and emotions filling our minds from a busy day, it is
difficult to gain lasting, meaningful insights.

When we contemplate the nature of the Sephirot, visualize their

color, vibrate their Divine Names, feel their energies, we align
ourselves with the essence of that Sephirah, via vibrations seeking
out similar vibrations.
Due to the multi-dimensional, holographic nature of the Tree
of Life, activating any Sephirah connects us to all the others.

Things invisible to us, auras, the chakras, the astral realm, entities,
simply vibrate at a frequency higher outside our visual range.

Advanced mystics can often see sounds and hear colours, as both
are varying concentrations of energy at specific vibratory rates!

THE PRACTICE OF VIBRATION

Vibrating Divine Names creates a shift in consciousness.

Vibrating is not the same as chanting or singing, or speaking. When
vibrating, the focus is on intensity, not volume or pitch. Eventually,
with practice, vibration can be performed entirely internally. When
we vibrate, we give equal emphasis and duration to each syllable in
the name, typically in a monotone pitch.

A Divine Name is typically vibrated several times, as per below...

Imagine the vibrations filling our entire bodies.

Then, filling the entire room, the entire universe.
Then, filling your entire consciousness.
And Finally, filling the entire universe.

Vibration of the Divine Names is much more effective when

combined with visualization of the associated colours.
We approach the Divine Names with the highest of reverence, and
attempt to merge our entire consciousness with the Name during
its vibration. As intention is important in all magical practice, it is
important to keep the meaning of the Names firmly in mind. As
with anything else, vibrating is a skill that takes time to master.

THE DIVINE NAMES OF THE SEPHIROT

The title of each Sephirah is simply that: a title, a label, a loose

descriptor of its qualities. The true essence and power of a Sephirah
comes from its Divine Name: its purest, most powerful expression.
The Divine Names are not merely names of the Sephirot. The Divine
Names are The Sephirot themselves!
The true essence of The Divine is beyond ALL attributions. Its true
names are forever unspeakable and unknowable to us.

All Divine Names deal with The Divine when that aspect of The Divine
is manifestated. While in these physical bodies, this is the only way
we can connect with its energies.

We invoke the Sephirot in any of the 4 Qabalistic worlds based on

the Divine Name used. All 10 Sephirot have a class of Divine Names
for different worlds:

In Atziluth, we have the God Names.

In Briah, we have the Archangel names.
In Yetzirah, we have the Order of Angels names.
In Assiah we do not typically have Divine Names; some authors
ascribe the 7 classical planets (in Hebrew names) to Assiah.
Archangels exist in different classes and realms. We have
planetary, Sephirotic, elemental, etc Archangels.
The same Archangel can appear in different realms, with the
same name, though in a different context/function.

At this stage, we do not vibrate the Order of Angel names. This

is due to the fleeting, chaotic nature of the World of Yetzirah (the
astral plane), which is full of potential deception and delusion.
Thus, at this stage, we vibrate only the God Names (in Atziluth)
and Archangel names (in Briah).

THE ARCHANGELS OF THE QABALAH TREE OF LIFE

(from the Ciceros Self-Initiation into The Golden Dawn Tradition)

METATRON Archangel of Kether. Metatron is the most

Godlike of Archangels. He usually appears as a young boy or
youth in robes of violet. He is very powerful and wise, despite
his childlike form. Metatron appears to individuals on the
verge of a spiritual transformation.

RATZIEL Archangel of Chokmah, of Wisdom. Ratziel can

appear in many forms, but, is most often seen as either pure
energy or light, or with robes of the colors of the rainbow.
Ratziel comes when your wisdom has grown to a point where
your energy can be increased to the next level.

TZAPHKIEL Archangel of Binah. Tzaphkiel often appears

just a hand or just a helmet, and is responsible for beginnings
and endings of things; can be called to end an unwanted
situation or to bring a swift end to a long-term pain.
Tzaphkiel is more than just an Archangel of death, but of life;
without endings, there can be no renewal. Tzaphkiel rules
over the Akashic Records.

TZADKIEL Archangel of Chesed. Appears as a very old man

with wrinkly face, white hair, and a white beard, with robes of
deep indigo blue. He dispenses justice without prejudice/bias.

KHAMAEL Archangel of Geburah. He appears as a Knight in

shining armor. He embodies protection in the form of skill,
prowess, and the utilization of tools and resources to
overcome physical challenges, and fear of the unknown.

MICHAEL Archangel of Tipharethh. Ruler of element of Fire.

Appears as a broad, muscular man in robes of flashing colours
red and light green. Michael carries a sword in his right
hand, and represents protection and courage; he stands as a
protector, by your side, when you require strength.

HANIEL Archangel of Netzach. Usually a beautiful woman,

but occasionally takes the form of a handsome man, in robes
of whitish-blue. Haniel symbolizes beauty, pleasure, and
friendship, and appears to show you how to fill the gaps in
your life with friendship, love, and harmony.

RAPHAEL Archangel of Hod. Rules the element of Air, and

wears robes of the flashing colors violet and yellow. Raphael
is the primary Archangel of Healing, and carries the caduceus
wand of healing in his left hand.

GABRIEL Female Archangel of Yesod. Rules element of

Water. The Archangel of communications. Wears robes of
flashing colours orange and blue, and carries a silver chalice
in her hand. Carries knowledge of all the sciences.

SANDALPHON Archangel of Malkuth. Sandalphon can appear

as an old wise man, a pontiff, or one of various princes, often
extremely tall, with robes of black with brown sandals.
Sandalphon is one of the most accessible of the archangels,
and the twin of Metatron. He is responsible for your nonphysical safety when you begin to consciously focus on the
various planes of light.

LESSON 6 MEDITATION - THE QABALISTIC CROSS

The Qabalistic Cross is a fundamental preliminary exercise performed
daily by Qabalists, regardless of grade and level of spiritual
attainment.

One precedes each ritual/meditation with it to bring down the Divine

Light of Kether into the aura, raise vibrations, and balance the
energies of the 4 elements within ones psyche under the governance
of Spirit. The Qabalist also closes each session with it, to seal the
energies of the Tree of Life within the aura.

Important is that as we invoke the spheres of The Tree of Life, we

are not facing the Tree and becoming its mirror image. We strive to
become the Tree, as if we were backed into it. This exemplifies the
mystics quest, and sacred right, to partake in the glory of the Divine
directly, without intermediary, institution, or separation.

Each word is vibrated, not merely pronounced. Vibration is a different

practice than speaking or chanting. The universal Law of Vibration
states that vibrations (which effectively make up ALL matter and
energy in the universe), seek out similar vibrations.

So when we vibrate, we align our own vibrations with the higher

vibrations of the sacred words we are intoning. When vibrating a
sacred word, we give equal emphasis to each syllable, with a similar,
monotone pitch, feeling that vibration throughout our entire body,
and permeating the entire universe. The emphasis is on intonation
intensity, not volume.

As we vibrate the name(s), we picture the associated sphere, in its

appropriate colour, on the part of the body, approximately the size
of a bowling ball, with their colours vivid, brilliant, intense, and active.
Colours, in Qabalah, along with sounds, are very powerful expressions
of energy.

Recall the essential tools of the Qabalist: Imagination, Emotion,

and Focus. In addition to visualizing and intoning the sounds, equally
vital is to invoke the energies through feeling and focus.

The Qabalistic Cross can be performed at any time during the day,
and it has a nice grounding and balancing effect. As with any exercise,
ritual, or meditation, competency comes with practice.

Take your time, feel the energies, visualize the colours, and know
that with the Qabalistic Cross, you touch on that part of You that is
forever Divine and Perfect. Though other variations of the exercise
do exist, I have found the below version to be the most complete and
the most effective.

STAND facing EAST (optional):

Raise your right hand above your head, and visualize your body growing
taller, upwards, infinitely higher and higher into the depths of the
universe, far above the earth, as you grow towards the infinite Divine
Light high above you.

Stop growing at this point, and bring down the light with your
forefinger and middle finger, downwards towards your forehead.
Touch the forehead, visualize a bright white sphere forming there,
and vibrate "AH-TAH" (Thou art). This is the Sephirah Kether, pure
Divinity, Unity.

Bring your right hand straight down to your heart centre, and from
that white sphere at your forehead, imagine a shaft of pure white
light shining straight down through the centre of your body, to your
feet. This is the Sephira of Malkuth, the physical world. Keeping your
right hand on your heart centre, imagine, at your feet, a sphere of
black; vibrate the name "MAL-KHOOT" (The Kingdom).

Next, imagine the white light rising from Malkuth back towards your
heart centre (with your right hand still there), and with your right
forefinger/middle finger, guide the light towards your right shoulder.

There visualize a dark red sphere forming. This is the sphere of

Geburah, or Severity. Vibrate "VAY-GEH-VOO-RAH" (The Power).

Next, move the end of the shaft of the white light with your right
forefinger/middle finger towards your left shoulder, forming a
horizontal line across the top of your chest, and once at the left
shoulder, see a navy blue sphere form there. This is the Sephirah
of Chesed, or Mercy. With the fingers on the sphere, vibrate

"VAY-GAY-DOO-LAH" (And the Glory).

You now have a cross of light going vertically from your head to your
feet, and from your right to your left shoulder. At this point, clasp
your hands together over your heart centre, and imagine a brilliant,
pulsing sphere of yellow there, harmonizing the other 4 spheres
invoked (representing the 4 elements balanced under the governance
of Spirit). This is the Sephirah of Tiphareth, Beauty and Harmony.
Vibrate "LAY-OH-LAHM" (Forever Unto the Ages).

At this point, contemplate the Tree of Life, as established in both the

microcosm/macrocosm (recall the 2 are one), as existing forever and
everywhere, in all points of time and space, with us being a gigantic
cross of Divine Light, at the centre of the universe. See this cross
extending in all directions, infinitely towards the universe.

Turn both hands facing upwards as in traditional prayer gesture, and

with much devotion and feeling, vibrate "AH-MEN" (Amen). Remain
in this position for a short while, absorbing the energies, as your
consciousness rises to the Higher Realms, as you become a living,
breathing Tree of Life.

LESSON 6 INTEGRATION EXERCISE

EVERYTHING IN ITS PROPER PLACE
(Taken in part from Rabbi David A. Coopers The Mystical Kabbalah CD set.)

The third cause of human suffering, in Qabalah, comes from us not

accepting events as they occur. We naturally have our own innate
responses to things, largely forged from our own ideas about fairness,
justice, and whats right or wrong.

Concept of justice is a core human archetype, represented by The

Justice card in the Tarot, and various deities (Maat, Themis, etc.)

This is not to say discernment is not needed. Quite the contrary.

A healthy, balanced sense of discernment is a prerequisite for
progress on the spiritual path. But often, the line separating
discernment from attachment and judgment, which are ultimately
rooted in psychological projection, becomes blurred.

This simple exercise helps us recognizing every event that occurs

as having its proper place in the grand scheme of things; Whether
we can understand or accept it at the time or not. When we begin
to see all events in this manner, we enter into the realization that
there are no chance events, or accidents in this universe: Only a
Divine order to everything that occurs, no matter how insignificant,
and no matter how fair on unfair.

Pick a moment, or person wherever you are. Looking back in time

from the present moment, imagine all the events that had to take
place, and all the people you had to meet along the way, in the exact
order, at the precise timing, for you to be in this place, at this time.

Additionally, imagine all the players involved, and all the factors,
events, and people in THEIR lives that played similar roles.

Furthermore, consider the implications of just one of those events

changing, or one of those people not playing the role they did at that
particular time, and the chain reaction of events that would have
resulted in everything turning out quite differently!

Again, with practice, you will begin to subconsciously comprehend ALL

events in this manner, with a proper place in a vast complex universe,
and as an integral part of a Divine Plan.

QABALAH: THE PATH TO

INNER MASTERY

LESSON 7
PRACTICAL WORKING WITH THE TREE OF LIFE
By Theodosios

By working with a Sephirah and its energies, we simultaneously

Awaken its purest form.
Balance it within itself.
Balance it within ourselves.
Harmonize it in relation to the others.
Integrate its influence into our everyday awareness.

We primarily work with the Sephirot in guided meditation, in

conjunction with the Divine Names and the other attributes.

SELECTING A SEPHIRAH TO WORK WITH

We must first have a purpose for the practical working. A certain

desired outcome. Some examples of a desired outcome could be:

Greater balance over a certain part of our lives.

Greater balance over a certain part of ourselves
Overall spiritual growth and expansion of awareness.

Next, we choose the Sephirah best suited for that task, based on
the associations chart below.

Ideally, for deeper energetic connection and stronger effect

we can light a coloured candle associated with that Sephirah,
and burn its associated incense. Optionally, hold an associated
gemstone our hand throughout the working.

Spend some time reviewing the associations and functions of the

Sephirah beforehand. (Lesson 6 and also at the end of this lesson)

THERE ARE 2 WAYS TO WORK WITH THE SEPHIROT:

a) Sequentially This process awakens and balances all of the

Sephirot within us. We always begin at the bottom of the Tree
of Life, at the 10th sphere, Malkuth, pure physicality, and work
our way up, ending with sphere number 1, Kether, Pure Spirit.
The process is akin to climbing a ladder, with Malkuth being closest
and most accessible to our sphere of influence. This is the Path of
The Serpent, the return to our Divine source.

Spend at least a week working with each Sephirah daily,

before moving to the next.

b) Individually In this method, we invoke an individual Sephirah

for a specific purpose. This could be for creativity, confidence,
will, abundance, mental clarity, emotional balance, etc.

In either case, when invoking the Divine Names, we always invoke

the highest Name first, and proceed down from there.

The following procedure is used with all the Sephirot workings. Simply
substitute the necessary colors, God Names, Archangel Name, and
Magical Images from the chart at the end of this Lesson based on the
Sephirot you wished to work with for that week, based on your
desired outcome.

Every magical act in Qabalah proceeds in following sequence:

THE OPENING (The Qabalistic Cross, statement of purpose

and/or, a short prayer.)
THE RITUAL ITSELF (invoking and working with the
Sephirah, Archangel.)
THE CLOSING (statement of gratitude, Qabalistic Cross.)

1. THE OPENING

Every magical act has a desired outcome, etc. When stated as a

purpose and with authority
We create an impression both in our subconscious and to
the universe that this magical act is to be accomplished in
accordance with our Will.
Christ taught that when one performs an act with complete faith and
a complete absence of doubt, all is achievable.

After performing the Relaxation/Breathing and Qabalistic Cross

We may open with a Declaration such as: I, (state name)

hereby declare this ritual for the purpose of (state purpose)

begun. This signals the subconscious and the universe a shift
from everyday awareness has begun.

If desired, we can then recite a simple prayer of devotion. This

is any personal prayer, calling upon the Divine, the Archangels, the
Angels, your Higher Self, your Guides, etc., for assistance.

Something such as: I, (state name) call upon the Divine Light,

all the Archangels and all my Angels and Spirit Guides to

assist Me in this working, so that I may purify and elevate
my body and soul to the Glory of my Higher Self and to the
Glory of The Divine.

Again, nothing formal here, just use something that resonates with,
and is very special, to you. The above is just a guideline.

2. THE RITUAL ITSELF

A) INVOKING THE SEPHIRAH

Imagine yourself surrounded by the colour of that Sephirah.

Vibrate the Sephirahs God Name several times.
Then, vibrate the Sephirahs Archangel Name several times.
Enter into the coloured sphere.

Create in your imagination, a world based on the Sephirahs

attributes (see chart below): The smell of the incense, the
imagery, the colour, the deities, etc.
Ultimately, become the sphere. Strongly contemplate its
attributes within you. Remain in this state for a few minutes.
This alone awakens the Sephirotic energies within you.

B) WORKING WITH THE SEPHIRAH

Create an environment based on the Sephirahs symbolism.

Let your imagination run free, and trust your intuition.
Create your own world. Theres no right or wrong here.
The experience is entirely subjective.

Picture the Sephirahs associated Archangel before you. Ask

for the Archangels blessing. Feel its awesome presence as it
touches you and heals you in the areas you seek. Begin to dialog
with the Archangel. Ask how to cultivate and balance the
Sephirah within yourself, and how to apply it to your life.

Listen closely, and trust your intuition. The Archangels are

there to assist you always, in accordance with Divine Will.
But they need to be approached with the highest reverence.
Though caring, they are very powerful beings of Light.

Be sure to thank the Archangel when completed. Alternately,

you may envision and enter into a similar dialog with that
Sephirahs Magical Image (see chart below). Trust your gut.

You may receive clear or vague messages, or none at all. Dont

worry. We are shown what we need, when. You may also have
things appear completely unexpectedly. You are accessing and
awakening archetypes deep within your subconscious.

If you suspect any deceit or dishonesty from any being, keep mentally
intoning the Sephirahs God Name. If the being stays,
it is very likely authentic. Furthermore, ask the being if it comes
in the Name of The Divine Light. If not, disregard it.

The astral world can be full of illusion and deception!

Keep in mind, were not necessarily talking about malefic forces here.
These illusions and deceptions are typically aspects of your own ego
protecting you, keeping you safe and complacent, telling you what you
THINK you want to hear!

For The Ego to be transcended, it must be confronted. A childlike

innocence and curiosity, combined with a healthy skepticism, is a
necessary combination for best results.
- (John Michael Greer, Paths of Wisdom)

Peoples experiences of the Sephirot guided workings will all

likely be different, based on their own psyches, life experiences,
stages of spiritual development, etc. The imagery may differ,
not just from one person to another, but also in different
session for the same person! This is a highly subjective process.

For this reason, maintaining a regular journal of our experiences and

insights is an invaluable practice.

The more practice working with the Sephirot that we do,

the clearer and more tangible knowledge and insights we
receive from each experience.

When you feel completed, take a few slow breaths before opening
your eyes and returning to everyday consciousness.

3. THE CLOSING
We close with a small statement of gratitude to (in order) The
Divine, to the Archangels, and to all other Beings involved, for having
answered our requests.
It is important to present this not as a request, but as a statement
of gratitude (with an undeniable feeling of knowing) for the act
already having been accomplished.
We then close with the Qabalistic Cross.
Record any experiences in your journal.

LESSON 7 MEDITATION SENT BY THE LIGHT

A very fundamental concept in traditional Judaic Kabbalah is that
of The Light. Everything in the universe emerged from The Light.
The Light desires to endlessly share. The Light seeks to help our
souls grow and evolve. We all carry a Holy spark of The Divine Light
deep within us. We eventually will return to The Light.
But the human soul cannot grow and evolve without challenges,
purpose, obstacles, and lessons to overcome. The Light, out of its
infinite desire to love, share, and help us on our path, provides us
with these opportunities; and often, quite unexpectedly.

After the preliminary seated posture, relaxation and rhythmic

breathing, we proceed to the meditation:

Pick a person in your life that really gets on your nerves. Not just
someone whom you dislike or are indifferent to, but someone who
causes a fairly strong response in you.
Imagine that person appearing before you, and notice what kind of
response comes up.
Notice what particularly irritates you about this person.
Now imagine yourself as The Light, planning your next lifetime,
just before you were born. Imagine The Light knowing what is
needed, what lessons are necessary, and what roles others people
will play in your life, in order for your soul to grow.
Now, with this awareness, come back to the image of the person
who irritates you, and try to see this person as sent to you by
The Light, as a challenge for you to overcome, in order for your
soul to grow and evolve.
Now, in your minds eye, imagine an event in your life that evokes
a strong emotion. Please dont pick one that is overwhelmingly
painful. That is best dealt with in the context of a supervised
therapy session. Just pick an event that irritates you.
Repeat the above process you did for the person, and apply it to
this for this event. See The Light planning the event for the
purpose of your souls evolution, and then return to the event and
try to see it in that context.
Spend a few minutes contemplating the new awareness and any new
impression you gained from this experience.

When you are ready, take a few slow breaths, open your eyes, and
return to the awareness of the body, and the room you are in.
Record any experiences and insights in your journal.

LESSON 7 INTEGRATION EXERCISE

SENT BY THE LIGHT
As per the previous meditation, for the next week, try to bring that
new level of awareness to every situation you encounter.
It can be a person at work who really pushes your buttons, a family
member that really bother you, or a reminder of an event that
happened in your life that was tough to deal with.
This process can take time to properly integrate. After all, weve
gotten accustomed to certain patterns of behavior and response
from years of programming. This is unlikely to change in a few days.
But the more we work with these exercises, the less reactive we
become to people, events, and ideas. We will begin to see them in
the context of a much larger picture, each with its valuable lessons
to offer, whether we understand them at this time or not.

QABALAH: THE PATH TO

INNER MASTERY

LESSON 8
THE ALEPH BETH AND GEMATRIA

By Theodosios

T H E

A L E P H

B E T H

To learn and practice Qabalah, fluency in the Hebrew language or The

Torah is not required, though it certainly is helpful. It is necessary
however, to have a basic understanding of the Hebrew alphabet, The
Aleph Beth. As we will soon see, it is no mere sequence of letters for
the purpose of forming words and sentences upon which we simply
build a language for everyday communication.

T H E

A L E P H

B E T H

(as read from right to left)

The Aleph Beth is the 22-lettered Hebrew Alphabet.

It is considered a mystical, sacred, hieroglyphic alphabet.

Each letter is a powerful, primordial archetype.

The Hebrew letters are the both primordial building blocks

of the universe and archetypes the human psyche!

The Aleph Beth is an alphabet of the human experience!

Each individual Hebrew letter encompasses hieroglyphic,

phonetic, numerical values, and elemental values.

Qabalah teaches that The Divine created the universe via

the 22 letters of The Aleph Beth!

The written Hebrew Alphabet is a language composed entirely

of consonants.
The written alphabet possesses no vowels.
All words are written and read from right to left.

The Hebrew we are concerned with here was spoken during and
before the 6th century BC. For the next two and a half millenia,
various forms, including Aramaic, were spoken. Since the 19th century,
ancient (or Biblical) Hebrew has been resurrected as the everyday
Hebrew language spoken today.
Owing both to the absence of vowels, and likewise lack of indications
of their pronunciation, we dont know with absolute certainty just
how ancient, Biblical Hebrew was intended to be pronounced.
Later, between the 7th and 9th centuries, the creation and application
of vowel points began. Vowel points are essentially tiny symbols and
marker placed variously above, below, and to the sides of Hebrew
letters, to indicate their correct pronunciation.
An excellent and quick resource for learning the Aleph Beth can be
found at http://www.instanthebrew.com
Biblical Hebrew does not possess a separate set of characters
to represent numbers.
The letters of The Aleph Beth ARE the numbers!

The Torah was originally written without spaces between the words,
as one long, continuous scroll. This was intentional, so as to reflect
the dynamic nature of the interpretations. Depending on where one
puts vowels or decides to end or begin sentences or words, meanings
can change considerably. (Rabbi David A. Cooper, from The
Mystical Kabbalah CD set.)
Qabalists teach that the Torah is, in fact, a coded mystical
document, and they defined 4 layers of its interpretation, called
the PARDES (literally translates into paradise).

P (Peshat) literal meaning of the text.

R (Remez) hints or the deep meaning slightly beyond literal
sense.
D (Derash) comparative meaning, to other words, passages,
metaphor, etc.
S (Sod) secret (mystery) meanings of the text, revealed
through inspiration, meditation, revelation.

The Aleph Beth is divided into 3 basic categories:

The 3 Mother Letters: Aleph Air, Mem Water, Shin - Fire

Represent the 3 primary elements through which the Divine
created the Universe; these 3 elements combine to form primal
elemental Earth. Fire and Water are the polar opposites, and Air
reconciles them.

The 7 Double Letters: Beth, Gimel, Daleth, Kaph, Peh, Resh, Tau
Represent the 7 traditional planets, and 7 opposites.
These are called double letters because they are
subject to double pronunciations.

The 12 Simple Letters: Heh, Vav, Zayin, Cheth, Theth, Yud,

Lamed, Nun, Samech, Ayin, Tzaddi, Qoph

Represent the 12 zodiacal signs, likewise the 12 Tribes of Israel,

and the 12 basic human properties.

A highly recommended exercise, as per the Sepher Yetzirah,

is to meditate on the sequence Aleph Beth:

Clearly visualize, animate, feel and connect with the energy of

each letter, beginning with the first letter, Aleph and ending
with the final letter, Tav.

Next, complete the process in reverse, beginning with Tav and

ending with Aleph.

In this exercise, we are connecting with both the ongoing

process of Creation, and the souls return to Pure Spirit.

A great way for using the Aleph Beth in our lives is to take one
letter at a time, and meditate on it every day. Do this with one
letter each week, in succession, from Aleph to Tav.

GEMATRIA
Gematria, is an ancient Hebrew numerology.

Gematria teaches that words which have the same numerical sum,
have a secret, underlying mystical connection.
i.e.: When you add up the numerical values for the Hebrew words
for Mother and Father, the sum equals the numerical value for Child.
Qabalists formed sacred patterns, based on mystically connected
words to meditate upon.
In Gematria, the true value of a number or letter is not its
numerical value, but its level of mystical consciousness via
its association with other numbers and letters.

I.e.: the word serpent (nun, heh, shin) adds up to 358 and so does
messiah (cheth, shin, mem). So does the word renewal. The
serpent, is a universal symbol for wisdom, also the symbol of the
kundalini, the spiritual creative force which, when awakened and
roused, recreates the entire individual as a god-man. Ruach Elohim
has a value of 300, as does the letter shin (spirit).
(from A Garden of Pomegranates, by Israel Regardie)

Qabalists formed sacred words to meditate upon using these letters,

and the simple act of meditating on the Hebrew alphabet from
Aleph to Tav and back can be very powerful, as described in the
Sepher Yetzirah.

Example: the word nachosch, or serpent (nun, heh, shin) adds up

to 358 and so does messiah (cheth, shin, mem). So does he word
mechudash, orrenewal. The serpent, in addition to being
a universal symbol for wisdom in any traditions, is also the symbol of
the kundalini, the spiritual creative force in each human, which, when
awakened and roused, recreates the entire individual as a god-man.
Ruach Elohimhas value of 300, as does letter shin(spirit)
- (from A Garden of Pomegranates, by Israel Regardie)
The number 26 is the sum of number value of YHVH, and also the
sum of the Sephirot in the Middle Pillar when added up!

The letters of Adonai - Aleph, Daleth, Nun and Yod- add up to 65.
Rather than analyzing "65" as a mystical number in its own right, the
Hebrew mystic was more interested in finding other Hebrew words
that share the value of 65 with Adonai. Those words, it is believed,
share some kind of mystical relationship with the name Adonai, and
throw light upon its inner spiritual meanings. Two other words in
Hebrew with a value of 65. One is Hekel (Heh, Yod, Kaph,
Lamed), which translates as Temple or Palace. Another is Has
(Heh, Samekh), translating as Silence. (There is some indication
that Has indicates a command to be silent.)
The Hebrew mystic would meditate long upon these three words:
Lord, Temple, and Silence. He would ask how these things are
related, and what they tell him about each other. He might assume
that this means Silence is always required in the Temple of the Lord.
If he thinks deeper, he might realize that Silence IS the Lord's
Temple. ("He who works in Silence, and naught but Silence can
express!")
- (from Introduction to the Hebrew Alphabet, by Aaron Leitch)

LESSON 8 MEDITATION - LIVING AS THE DIVINE

Influenced, in part, by Rabbi David A. Coopers The Mystical Kabbalah

As discussed in the early lessons, another cause of human suffering

is our alienation from our pure, unified Divine Source.
While we live in the physical world, our soul naturally feels a sense
of loneliness and isolation. With our awareness so far from our
Divine source, we live in what Qabalists call a fallen, or forgotten
state of existence.
This meditation helps us reconnect with our Divine Source, and
maintain and awareness as we go about our daily lives.

Following the meditation prerequisites of relaxation, breathing,

and maintaining the proper seated posture, eyes closed

Imagine yourself standing in an open field, or on a beach.

Build up the image in your mind, and really experience yourself

being there; hear the sounds, smell the scents, etc.

Imagine before you, an image of The Divine! Just go with the

very first image you see. There are no right or wrongs here.
Notice how it feel to be in the presence of the Divine. Feel the
warmth, the love, the wisdom, the power.

Hold this impression for a couple of minutes or so.

Slowly walk into and merge with this image of The Divine.

Notice how it feels. Notice if it even feels familiar. Sit with

this for a few minutes, absorbing its Divine essence of Being.
Try to imagine and experience how The Divine sees you.
Now, with this form, imagine yourself going through your everyday
life, with all the usual routines, but as though THROUGH THE EYES
OF THE DIVINE.
Notice how it feels to have this pure, sacred connection, and to see
everything in the world through a higher perspective of love,
wisdom, and understanding.

After a few minutes of this journey, when you are finished, take a few
deep breaths, and allow yourself to come back to the awareness of
your own body, and of the room you are in.
Record any experiences and insights in your journal.

LESSON 8 - INTEGRATION EXERCISE

- LIVING AS THE DIVINE

For the next week, try and go about all of your typical daily affairs in
the same manner as the above meditation, seeing and living absolutely
everything in the physical world as if through the eyes and experience
of The Divine.
This practice, over time, is incredibly profound and transforming.

QABALAH: THE PATH TO

INNER MASTERY

LESSON 9
QABALAH, THE TAROT, AND NUMBER

By Theodosios

The tarot is a deck of 78 cards that symbolically represents

the fundamental stages and choices of human development.

When we pick up a tarot deck, we hold the Universe in our hands.

The mysteries of how the Universe was created, how it is
sustained, and where you and I fit in the grand scheme
of things can all be, symbolically, and more importantly, dynamically,
represented by the tarot deck.
(Lon Milo Duquette, Understanding Aleister Crowleys Thoth Deck)

Qabalahs documented association with The Tarot is a relatively

modern occurrence. As far as we know, the first author to
document the associations between the Tarot and Qabalah is
the French magician and author, Eliphas Levi, in 19th Century.

This is not to suggest that associations between Tarot and

Qabalah didnt exist prior! In my opinion, the 2 systems work
so incredibly well together, it is extremely unlikely the
creator(s) of the Tarot didnt have (and applied) a thorough
understanding of Qabalah. A good overview of this topic can be
found in The Kabbalistic Tarot by Dovid Krafchow.

Nowadays, the Tarot is often used as a tool for divination.

However, its primary usage in Qabalah is as a tool for meditation

and spiritual growth.

This is accomplished both by meditating and contemplating

its archetypal imagery, and conducting card spreads to determine
influences (either within ourselves or around us) present at the
time, some of which we may not even be aware.

The Tarot simultaneously provides a prognosis, a diagnosis and a

prescription for any situation. A reading comes into being through
the influence of synchronicity, triggered by application of randomness
(i.e.: shuffling cards).
(Dr. Stephan A. Hoeller, Tarot: A Universal Mandala of Life)

There are literally hundred of Tarot decks available. For Qabalistic

study, it is important to use a deck specifically designed with the
proper Hermetic symbolism and colors. Some (but by no means, all)
of the recommended decks include:

The RiderWaite Deck (especially the newer Radiant edition)

The Golden Dawn Tarot by Sandra Tabitha Cicero
The B.O.T.A. Tarot deck of Paul Foster Case
Aleister Crowley's Book of Thoth tarot deck.
Tarot of Ceremonial Magick by Lon Milo Duquette

There are 2 approaches to reading the Tarot cards. Both

approaches are necessary for a good reading.
Objective The literal face meaning of each card.
Subjective The intuitive interpretation and relationship
between the cards. Using your intuition, see the images in
the cards telling an archetypal story.
I have found using a combination of both of the above methods
to be the recommended approach.
There are also 2 different approaches to learning the cards:
Memorizing each individual meaning, from a book or chart.
Learning the cards by learning the Qabalah Tree of Life and
where the cards fit in relation to the Tree.
I have found that using a combination of both of the above methods
to be the recommended approach.

The Tarot is divided into 2 fundamental areas:

(i) THE MAJOR ARCANA (also called the Trumps)

22 cards representing the 22 fundamental and abstract,

archetypal stages of the human experience.
Each Trump represents a Universe in itself; the macrocosm.
It can be said that each Trump contains all of the 56 Minor
Arcana cards within it.
Each Major Arcana card corresponds to the 22 letters of the
Hebrew Alphabet.
Each Major Arcana card (or Key) is assigned to one of the
22 paths on the Tree of Life! (see diagram...)
Each Major Arcana card represent the dynamic, active shift
from one level of consciousness to another.
The entire Major Arcana as a whole, represents the Element
of Spirit. Spirit permeates, balances, and regulates all the
other 4 Elements.
Because each Major Arcana card represents a path on the Tree
of Life, it represents a dynamic, fleeting, state of transition;
an active change and evolution in consciousness.
Working through the Major Arcana in our meditations helps us
resonate with those dynamic changes in consciousness which are
omnipresent throughout the universe.

(ii) THE MINOR ARCANA

56 cards that represent the day-today workings of our mundane

experience; the microcosm. The Minor Arcana are linked with
the Sephiroth themselves. The Minor Arcana are further
subdivided into:

(a) THE 4 SUITS

The 4 Suits represent the 4 Worlds; the 4 Primal Elements.

WANDS Element of Primal Fire (world of Atziluth);

letter Yod; human Intuition function.
CUPS

Element of Primal Water (world of Briah);

letter Heh; human Emotions function.

SWORDS Element of Primal Air (world of Yetzirah);

letter Vav; human Thinking function.
DISKS
Element of Primal Earth (world of Assiah);
(or PENTACLES) letter final Heh; human
Feeling (Sensation) function.

(b) THE COURT CARDS

The Court Cards are the 4 Absolute Elements (recall Lesson 5).
Rarely in a tarot spread, does a Court Card represent an actual

person! The Court Cards most often represent aspects of

ourselves, via internal or external influences.
Each of the following 4 Court Cards appears in all the 4 suits.
(The Court Card names vary depending on deck used.)

KINGS Represent Individual Fire, Chockmah

QUEENS Represent Individual Water, Binah
PRINCES Represent Individual Air, Tiphareth
PRINCESSES Represent Individual Earth, Malkuth

Using the above guidelines, a King of Swords would be a Fire of

Air. Individual Fire of Primal Air. A Princess of Disks would be
Water of Earth. Individual Water of Primal Earth.
Recall the Elemental attributions with the human psyche (Jungian):
Fire represents the INTUITION.
Water represents the FEELINGS.
Air represents the THOUGHTS.
Earth represents the SENSATIONS.

(C) THE 10 NUMBERED CARDS (ALSO CALLED THE PIPS).

Each Suit has its associated 10 numbered cards. They are numbered
Ace (the 1s) through 10.
Each number is assigned to one of the corresponding 10
Sephirot, and partakes of that Sephirahs qualities.
Each Ace resides in Kether. The Aces represent Spirit in purest
form. Each Ace contains in itself, the 4 Court Cards for that suit.

Each Ace in each suit, is composed of each of a:

Fiery element (The King)
Watery element (The Queen)
Airy element (The Prince)
Earthy element (The Princess)

Each Major Arcana is an entire universe within itself; each

containing its own application of the entire Minor Arcana.
A great description of the Tarots association with the 4 Qabalistic
Worlds, and our place in those worlds is below:

We are the King (Atziluth) who has fallen asleep and is dreaming
he is the Queen Briah), who has fallen asleep and dreaming she
is The Prince (Yetzirah), who has fallen asleep and dreaming he
is The Princess! (Assiah)
(Lon Milo Duquette, Understanding Aleister Crowleys Thoth Deck)

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE FOOL!

At the heart of the Major Arcana, and indeed the Tarot as a whole,
is that wonderful little character, The Fool.
The entire Tarot can be seen as a journey through all the important
stages of the soul's evolution and all the archetypes encountered,
reconciled and integrated into our psyche.
In most Tarot decks, particularly in decks with a Hermetic or
Qabalistic influence, The Fool is designated as the first card.
But this first card is always labeled Number (or Key) 0! Not 1!
This is very significant, because to the Qabalist, 0 (and hence
The Fool Card) is a very important number:

 It has no definitive value.

It does not occupy a location in time or space.
It is both everywhere and nowhere!
It is both everything and nothing!
It is a state of all possibilities and none of them!
While The Fool card is often called the first (or beginning) card
in the Major Arcana, this is, strictly speaking, not correct.
The Fool belongs, and hence can be rightly placed, anywhere and
everywhere in the sequence of the 22 Major Arcana cards!

The following example symbolizes the journey of The Fool through

the 22 stages of the evolution of human consciousness. Please note
that while the gender form of male is used, The Fool is essentially
genderless, and represents everyone.
Please remember while all the below Major Arcana cards (or steps),
are to some degree stages through life, they are also deep,
primordial archetypes, and should be thought of I both ways.

THE EVOLUTION OF THE FOOL THROUGH THE MAJOR ARCANA

1. THE FOOL The baby leaves the womb of safety, comfort,

and familiarity. He jumps feet first into the unknown world,
carefree and spontaneous, completely uninhibited and unbound.
On the Qabalah Tree of Life, The Fool (which is the Hebrew
letter Aleph), lies on the path joining the Sephirot of Kether
with Chockmah.

2. THE MAGICIAN The Fool experiences the first of 2 basic

polarized expressions of energy in the universe: the Active;
He experiences his active, conscious awareness.
On the Qabalah Tree of Life, The Magician lies on the path
joining the Sephirot of Kether and Binah.

3. THE HIGH PRIESTESS The Fool experiences the second of

2 fundamental opposing expressions of energy in the universe:
the Passive; the presence of his intuitive, unconscious awareness.
On the Qabalah Tree of Life, The High Priestess lies on the
path joining the Sephirot of Kether and Tiphareth.

4. THE EMPRESS The Fool experiences the nature of The

Mother; nurturing, sensation, comforting, abundant aspect.
On the Qabalah Tree of Life, The Empress lies on the path
joining the Sephirot of Chockmah and Binah.

5. THE EMPEROR The Fool experiences The Father archetype;

rules, discipline, organization, structure, authority.
On the Qabalah Tree of Life, The Emperor lies on the path
joining the Sephirot of Chockmah and Tiphareth.

6. THE HIEROPHANT For the second time in his Evolution,

The Fool leaves the comfort and security of his surroundings:
his earthly home; he is now exposed to the outer, societal
influences of education, belief systems, social status.
On the Qabalah Tree of Life, The Hierophant lies on the path
joining the Sephirot of Chockmah and Chesed.

7. THE LOVERS Up until now, The Fool has experienced all the
stages within the context of himself. He now experiences the

desire for connection or relationship to someone other than

himself. Sometimes manifested as love, sexuality, union.
On the Qabalah Tree of Life, The Lovers card lies on the path
joining the Sephirot of Binah and Tiphareth.

8. THE CHARIOT The Fool begins develops the faculties of the

setting a goal, actively taking charge of chasing and achieving
its completion, and experiencing fruits of accomplishment, victory.
On the Qabalah Tree of Life, The Chariot lies on the path joining
the Sephirot of Binah and Geburah.

9. STRENGTH The Fool learns to draw upon will power and inner
strength during tough times. He learns the virtue of patience.
On the Qabalah Tree of Life, The Strength care lies on the path
joining the Sephirot of Geburah and Chesed.

10.THE HERMIT The Fool begins to question and contemplate

larger, philosophical issues; learns to seek answers within
himself and of the need to retreat into solitude to recharge.
On the Qabalah Tree of Life, The Hermit card lies on the path
joining the Sephirot of Chesed and Tiphareth.

11.THE WHEEL OF FORTUNE After a respite, The Fool has the

need for movement; exposed to inevitability of fate, destiny,
synchronicity, and sudden, unexpected changes, for better/worse.

On the Qabalah Tree of Life, The Wheel of Fortune card lies

on the path joining the Sephirot of Chesed and Netzach.

12. JUSTICE The Fool begins to understand the consequences

of cause and effect, and taking personal responsibility for his
actions. Life comes to a crossroads: venture into unknown, or
slip back into the familiar, comfortable, familiar, predictable?
On the Qabalah Tree of Life, The Justice card lies on the path
joining the Sephirot of Geburah and Tiphereth.

13. THE HANGED MAN Encounters experiences overwhelming,

too much to handle. Feels like sacrificing that which his very
important is the only way to reconcile a difficult situation. Is
actually a serene, free state, at peace with life.
On the Qabalah Tree of Life, The Hanged Man card lies on the
path joining the Sephirot of Geburah and Hod.

14. DEATH Eliminates old patterns and habits. Experiences

endings into powerful transition of new beginnings.
On the Qabalah Tree of Life, The Death card lies on the path
joining the Sephirot of Tiphareth and Netzach.

15. TEMPERANCE Discovers the balanced equilibrium that exists

at the root of all extremes. By experiencing extremes, comes
to appreciate the wisdom of moderation.

On the Qabalah Tree of Life, The Temperance card lies on the

path joining the Sephirot of Tiphareth and Netzach.

16. THE DEVIL The Fool digs deeper into the psyche. Confronts
his own ignorance and obsessive attachment to the material. In
Jungian psychology, this is The Shadow.
On the Qabalah Tree of Life, The Devil card lies on the path
joining the Sephirot of Tiphareth and Hod.

17. THE TOWER Realizes only way to overcome the Shadow is

to abruptly release oneself from The Ego: the thick, protective
fortress weve built around us to avoid facing our own truths.
On the Qabalah Tree of Life, The Tower card lies on the path
joining the Sephirot of Hod and Netzach.

18. THE STAR The Fool now experiences the hope of serenity
and freedom from releasing the bondages of Ego and of Self.
Hence the Star woman is naked. Wishes to generously share
this peace with the world.
On the Qabalah Tree of Life, The Star card lies on the path
joining the Sephirot of Netzach and Yesod.

19. THE MOON However, this bliss is not yet grounded or

focused with mental clarity, and is subject to delusion and
fantasy. The Moon stimulates the Imagination, causing

remaining thoughts and emotions, to come to the surface,

leaving The Fool bewildered, ungrounded.
On the Qabalah Tree of Life, The Moon card lies on the path
joining the Sephirot of Malkuth and Netzach.

20. THE SUN The energy of the Sun provides The Fools
Imagination with both mental clarity and emotional joy.
On the Qabalah Tree of Life, The Sun card lies on the path
joining the Sephirot of Yesod and Hod.

21. JUDGEMENT The Fool is reborn, the ego is shed, the true
self Shines, and he is able to see past the illusions of duality.
The Fool now operated via the callings and instincts of his
Higher Self, and seeks to serve all humanity and the world.
On the Qabalah Tree of Life, The Judgement card lies on the
path joining the Sephirot of Hod and Malkuth.

22. THE WORLD The Fool re-enters the World, but this time,
with this new awareness completely integrated into both his
psyche, and into his everyday life. At the end of the journey
we begin the cycle once again.
On the Qabalah Tree of Life, The World card lies on the path
joining the Sephirot of Malkuth and Yesod

A great way to work with the Tarot is to take The Major Arcana
cards, and beginning from Key 0, The Fool, through Key 21, The
Universe, and match them with their associated Hebrew letter.

Use each Major Arcana as the subject of an active meditation.

Spend between 1 day and 1 week with each card. Work through
all the Major Arcana cards, in the correct order:

First, stare into the card for several minutes.

Be completely open to feelings or messages it gives you.

Close your eyes, slowly enter (or walk into) the card in your
minds eye.
Begin to interact with the images on the card, make them highly
animated.
Listen and pay close attention to any messages or insights
received on the journey.
Remember, these are archetypes that already exist within you,
which you are now awakening and reconciling.
After 10-15 minutes, slowly bring your awareness back to your
individual self and body, and open your eyes.
Record any experiences in your journal.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF NUMBER IN QABALAH/TAROT

To the Qabalist, numbers are not merely numerical values. Numbers

are the building blocks of all Creation. Numbers are primordial
archetypes, as well as states of consciousness. As discussed in the
section on Gematria, numbers provide the mystical, underlying
connection between all things. Qabalahs usage of number is
influenced to a large degree, by ancient Pythagorean sources.
For further study, please reference Soror I.D.D.s excellent article
called The Tarot Trumps at
:http://www.hermeticgoldendawn.org/Documents/Essays/tarot.htm

NUMBER 0 Unmanifest Deity, pure potential. Boundless space,

limitless time. A state of pure Being and possibilities.
NUMBER 1 The Unity that underlies all numbers, the first
manifestation. Oneness, rulership. The Father Principle.
NUMBER 2 Duality, the Mothering Principle. Opposites.
Duplication. The beginnings of all things.
NUMBER 3 Trinity Father Mother, Child. Balance of all
manifested things. The fruit of the union of opposites. Birth
and new beginnings. Simultaneously past/present/future.
NUMBER 4 Physical plane, order, structure, completion. Cross,
4 directions. Square, base of pyramid, most stable of forms.

NUMBER 5 The Pentagram. Man, the microcosm. Union.

Combines odd (3) and even (2), male and female.
NUMBER 6 The Divine in nature, the macrocosm. 2 interlocking
of the hexagram indicating balance and harmony. Produce by
both the addition and the multiplication of its parts 1+2+3=6,
and 1x2x3=6
NUMBER 7 The most sacred of all numbers. 3+4, God and Nature
combined in Man: 7 Octaves, Days, Sins, Virtues, Plagues,
Archangels, Planets, etc.
NUMBER 8 Evolution, the first cube (2x2x2). Hourglass of time
and infinity. Cause and effect.
NUMBER 9 The horizon. The crossing over point. Fruition (9
months in the womb) and Initiation (Teth, The Serpent). As the
last digit, 9 brings all things to an end, and prepares them for
the never-ending cycle of new manifestation.
NUMBER 10 Completion. The greatest number of all. The sum
of all the primordial numbers that sustain the universe. Fate.
NUMBER 11 New beginnings, but now armed with the wisdom
acquired in cycle of 1-10. New journey, but at a higher, more
sublime level. Again, the example of an octave.

LESSON 9 MEDITATION BEYOND THE SELF

This meditation takes us on a profound journey through the Tree
of Life, up the Middle Pillar, visiting the vital parts of The Self and
reintegrating them into our everyday experience with a new level
of awareness gained from the journey.

After the pre-requisites of the proper seated posture, relaxation

and rhythmic breathing, we begin the meditation:

Imagine yourself entering a thick, misty cloud of very dark green.

In this cloud, one by one, you imagine yourself detaching from:

-

your sense of sight

your sense of hearing
your sense of smell
your sense of taste
your sense of touch

Observe these parts of you, without judging, as they are released

into the misty cloud all around you.

As you disengage from your physical senses, you continue to travel

through another misty cloud of purple.

In this cloud of misty purple, you notice all aspects of your

intuition, emotions, and your dreams and fantasies being detached
from you, flowing into the misty purple cloud that surrounds you.

Now, your bare awareness enters a brilliant yellow misty cloud.

Here, you notice and connect with that part of you thats doing
all the noticing, the meditating, the experiencing.

You begin to observe deeper aspects of yourself, aspects that are

beyond your individual self, aspects that you share the collective
psyche of all of humanity.

As you do, you begin to release these as well. See them

disappearing and merging into the yellow misty cloud.

Now, see yourself traveling even deeper within you, leaving the web
of your personality beneath you, leaving all aspects of your physical
senses behind, until your entire awareness enters a cloudy mist of
indigo. As you enter this cloudy mist, spend a few minutes shedding
any remaining traces of thoughts, of feelings, and of separation.

As further aspects of yourself fall off like garments, you enter a

realm of blinding white light. As you enter this realm, you begin to
merge completely with Oneness of The Divine. All that exists is the
experience of Pure Unity. Pure Spirit. Pure Awareness. Pure
Lightness of Being. This is the world of infinite possibilities.
In this Divine, blissful state, you begin to hear the words I AM.

Mentally intone the words I AM for a couple minutes. The

phrase I AM is said to be the only true statement in the entire
universe, at all levels of existence.

Sit with this awareness of pure Oneness for a few minutes, while
still maintaining your slow, rhythmic breathing.

As you begin to leave this realm of white light, you pass back
through the purple cloudy mist with this new awareness, this
Oneness. As you continue traveling into the brilliant yellow cloud,
you begin to merge back with all the parts of you that you share
with your fellow humans.
Slowly, you enter back into the cloud of purple mist and re-integrate
your psychic intuition, your feelings, your dreams
and fantasy faculties back into your awareness and being.

As you next travel through the dark thick green cloud of physicality,
you re-integrate your 5 physical sense, one-by-one, back into your
individuality, into your Being.

Sit in contemplation of this much deeper experience of your

Self than you may have been accustomed to, and note any new
impressions you may feel.
When you are ready, take a few slow deep breaths, and come back
into the awareness of your body and the room you are in.

LESSON 9 INTEGRATION EXERCISE

- I AM, YOU ARE, HE/SHE IS
As we discovered from the above meditation, the phrase I AM,
is very powerful. Every time we say I AM or YOU ARE, or
IT/HE/SHE IS, we make a declaration that reverberates in the
entire universe. By doing so, it is the ultimate act of judgment.
As mentioned, Qabalah teaches that the phrase I AM is the only
true statement in the universe.
For this next week, try to develop an awareness for each time you
make one of the above declarations of I AM or YOU ARE, or
IT/HE/SHE IS, about anything. Youll likely notice we do it quite
often, without even realizing. The more we notice, the more we can
reduce its usage to when necessary, rather than automatic.

QABALAH: THE PATH TO

INNER MASTERY

LESSON 10

THE MIDDLE PILLAR RITUAL

By Theodosios

T H E

M I D D L E

P I L L A R

R I T U A L

As taught and expounded by Dr. Israel Regardie.

The Middle Pillar Ritual is the foundational exercise in practical
Qabalah. It is the method of bringing down The Divine Light,

from the highest realms of Pure Spirit (Kether), through the 4

Qabalistic worlds, through the 5 levels of soul, to manifestation
in the physical body (Malkuth) of the initiate. Above all else, it
aligns our vibrations of the human with that of The Divine.

The 3 Pillars of the Qabalah Tree of Life represent the most

fundamental expressions of polarity, the basic interaction of
physical forces in the manifested universe: 2 opposing forces
which unite to create a balanced 3rd force.

This 3rd balanced force is The Middle Pillar, representing The

Middle Way, the reconciling of all opposites, the harmony of
Illumination. Through the Middle Pillar, we create this sacred
harmony within ourselves, and direct it according to our Will.

Only the Middle Pillar covers the entire spectrum from Pure Spirit,
down to Pure Manifestation and Duality, all 4 Qabalistic Worlds
and 5 levels of The Soul. Its 5 Sephirah also represent the 5
elements: Kether = SPIRIT operating all, Daath = AIR of higher
knowledge, Tiphareth = FIRE of Creativity, Yesod = WATER of
perpetual life, Malkuth = EARTH of our foundation.
The Middle Pillar heals the subtle bodies (physical, etheric, astral,
mental, and spiritual), protects against unbalanced influences,
purifies the aura and energy channels, and raises vibrations by
aligning the personal consciousness with the Divine Consciousness.
Over time, toxins and repressed issues are brought to the surface,
transmuted, released, and disruptions in the energy flow properly
aligned.

Several variations of the exercise exist. My own advice is to learn

the traditional method first, build on the foundation, and after
competency is attained, then one may explore possible alternatives.
There are different applications with the Middle Pillar Ritual:
spiritual growth, consecrating sacred tools and talismans, skrying,
and energy healing.

The Middle Pillar Ritual should be practiced daily, regardless

of ones level of spiritual attainment. It is great for before visiting
a person or situation that has an ill affect on you, or anytime
grounding and balance is needed. It is an excellent prelude to any
type of spiritual working and meditation, particularly energy
working/healing, and a powerful ritual of self-initiation into higher
consciousness in its own right.

PREREQUISITES AND CONSIDERATIONS:

As with any spiritual work, The Middle Pillar Ritual needs to

be practiced responsibly and carefully, to minimize adverse effects.
As the Divine Light flows through the subtle bodies and channels,
one is working with a higher current of energy than to which one may
be accustomed. As impurities are released, energy channels/subtle
bodies cleansed, and vibrations raised, adverse affects can occur.
These symptoms are generally minor, and a very natural part
of the healing process. Provided the exercise is performed properly,
with prerequisites, they will not result in permanent harm. If one

feels discomfort, simply back off on the intensity of the vibration,

visualization and feeling, and also frequency of The Divine Names.

As we bring the Divine Light down grounding it into the physical

world (Malkuth), we are handling the energy in a much safer manner
than some of the Eastern yogic practices of raising the Kundalini,
which works in the opposite direction, and carries greater risks.
However, equal, if not greater, risks occur when playing sports or
driving, and in using the electricity and gas that maintains our homes.
The solution is to work responsibly, in a safe, controlled environment.

It is recommended the student first perform several weeks of

daily practice of the Qabalistic Cross, with the rhythmic breathing
and grounding exercise(s). Alternately, if one has practiced other
forms of meditation, grounding, energy work (i.e.: yoga, qigong),
that should be sufficient.

Should the student feel any discomfort during the exercise (ie:
light-headedness, minor aches), they should reduce the intensity
of the vibrations, perhaps only vibrate the Divine Names once each
(or just mentally), and one cycle of the Light Circulation.

The Middle Pillar Ritual, like all practical work in The Qabalah,
relies on the 3 fundamental faculties:
The Active Imagination
Feeling
The Will

For maximum benefits, one should endeavour to simultaneously

visualize the images, vibrate the sacred names, feel the energies,
and focus the intention.

The more intensely one focuses on the work, the more intensity
one activates the energies, hence the more effective the
experience!

In the beginning, focus is on the rudimentary aspects of memorizing

the sacred names, the visualizations, and the energy flow patterns.
It takes time and practice before full benefits of the exercise are
experienced. Progress occurs at different rates, and manifests in
different fashion, for different people.

Some naturally feel, others naturally hear, or see. Others just

know. Some may require time to build all the faculties, like
developing muscles through physical exercise.

Do not become discouraged if progress does not come as quickly

as presumed, or in the form expected. Results come with time and
practice. Just know that with the Middle Pillar Ritual, you are
invoking, aligning with the highest of The Divine within You.

THE DIVINE NAMES OF THE SEPHIROT

The Divine Names of the Sephirot (spheres) are intoned through

the elsewhere described method of vibration. The Names should
be vibrated slowly and evenly on each syllable, so they appear to
make the whole body, eventually the whole room, and eventually
the entire universe, resonate with that sound. The emphasis is
not on volume, but on intensity.

Vibration can be practiced mentally, after competency is attained.

An alternate method is to vibrate the Divine Name on the out
breath, and also mentally intone them on the in breath.

The Divine Names need be committed to memory, along with their

meanings. Its important when invoking, keep the meaning in mind,
reflecting an important tool of spiritual work: intention.

Each Sephirah (sphere) of the Tree of Life, as an emanation of the

Divine commencing from Pure Spirit to Pure Physical, has an
associated Divine Name, an Archangel Name, and an Angel Name.
These are all linked to the 4 Qabalistic Worlds.

RememberThe Divine names ARE the spheres themselves,

they are not merely labels or attributes!

Note while the location of the Sephiroth in the human body may
loosely correspond to the chakras, they are different in many
respects, including location, energetic function, and subtle body(s)
affected.

The God Name of Kether is EHEIEH (Eh-Heh-Ee-Eh) means "I

Am" or I Will Be or I Become. It relates to our Divine and
Immortal Divine Self.

The God Name of Daath is YHVH ELOHIM (Yod-Hey-Vav-HeyEh-Loh-Heem) means "The Lord, God." Daath is the interface
between Divine Unity and the world of Duality and Manifestation;
between the universal consciousness and the personal
consciousness.

The God Name of Tiphareth is YHVH ELOAH VA-DAATH (YodHay-Vav-Hay Eh-Loh-Ah-Ve-Dah-aht) means "The Lord, God of
Knowledge." It is associated with Tipharethh, Harmony, the seat
of The Higher Self. It relates to the portion of the Soul The
Ruach, The Personal Ego.

The Divine Name SHADDAI EL CHAI (Shah-Dah-Ee-El-Kah-Ee)

means "Almighty Living God." It is associated with Yesod, and
relates to the Qabalistic portion of the Soul - The Nephesh,
the Shadow-self, the Unconscious, the seat of our primal
instincts for survival. On a macrocosmic level, this is the astral
world and dreams.

The Divine Name ADONAI HA-ARETZ (Ah-Doe-Nah-Ee-HahAretz) means Lord of Earth." It is associated with Malkuth,
and relates to the Qabalistic portion of the Soul The Guph,
tied to the physical body, the total range of all psycho-physical
functions. The 5 senses of empirical experience.

THE METHOD - PART I: INVOKING THE SEPHIROT

Preliminaries:
We begin with the rhythmic breathing for 5- 10 minutes, followed
by the Qabalistic Cross and the Tree of life exercise, concluding
with seeing and feeling the black Pillar of Form on our right, the
Pillar of Force on our left, and the golden Pillar of Balance along
the centre shaft of out body. Simply all this in itself provides a
shift in consciousness and balance.

We perform the ritual standing, facing West. After some time,

it can be performed seated or lying down. The Qabalah Tree of
Life, like temples and altars in the Western Mystical traditions,
is situated in the East, the source of The Divine Light. The mystic
aspires to become the Tree of Life, to experience Divine Union.

Therefore, we back into the Tree, not face it. With each sphere,
see the ball becoming more intense and bright with each vibration.
Spend a few minutes with each, experiencing each in its totality.

See diagram at the end of this section for location of spheres.

STEP 1:
Stand upright, hands to side, focus attention directly above
head; visualize a bright, blinding-white sphere approximately
the size of a bowling ball. This is Kether, Divine Unity. Kether
should be addressed with utmost devotion. Vibrate the name
EHEIEH (Eh-Heh-Ee-Eh), 3-4 times.

STEP 2:
Visualize a beam of brilliant light emitted downwards from
the Kether sphere towards the nape of the neck. Visualize
a bright, blinding-white sphere approximately the size of a
bowling ball. This is Daath, the interface between human
consciousness and Divine consciousness. Vibrate YHVH
ELOHIM (Yod-Hey-Vav-Hey-Eh-Loh-Heem), 3-4 times.

STEP 3:
Visualize a beam of brilliant light down from the Daath sphere
towards the heart or region. Visualize a bright, blinding-white
sphere approximately the size of a bowling ball. This is
Tipharethh, the seat of your Holy Guardian Angel, your
Higher Self. Vibrate YHVH ELOAH VA-DAATH (Yod-HeyVav-Hey Eh-Loh-Ah-Ve-Dah-ath), 3-4 times. Feel a warmth
radiate there, as though from an interior sun.

STEP 4:
Visualize a beam of brilliant light emitted downwards from the
Tipharethh sphere towards the groin area. Visualize a bright,
blinding-white sphere approximately the size of a bowling ball.
This is Yesod, the seat of your unconscious, your dreams, and
the astral world. Vibrate SHADDAI EL CHAI (Shah-DahEe-El-Kah-Ee), 3-4 times.

STEP 5:
Visualize a beam of brilliant light emitted downwards from
the Yesod sphere towards the feet. Visualize a bright,
blinding-white sphere approximately the size of a bowling
ball. This is Malkuth, the manifested physical world, and
your sensations. Vibrate ADONAI HA-ARETZ (Ah-DoeNah-Ee-Hah-Aretz), 3-4 times.

METHOD - PART II: CIRCULATION OF THE LIGHT

After the Sephirot have been invoked and activated through the
above method, it is important to proceed with The Circulation of The
Light. Otherwise, an energy imbalance can occur in the subtle bodies,
with the Sephirot focusing their energies inwards, creating strain on
the nervous and endocrine systems. The Circulation of The Light
distributes the Light safely and evenly throughout the body and the
aura, and has a strong healing/cleansing effect.

It is important the movement of the Light be synchronized with

ones breath, in the form of the 4-fold breathing taught in class. A
quick review: In breath through the nose for a count of 4, followed by
a pause for a count of 4, followed by an out breath for a count of 4
through the mouth, followed by a pause for a count of 4. The count
interval durations are not important. What matters is the count
interval durations remain uniform and consistent throughout.

Circulation 1. After the spheres are invoked, inhale for a count

of 4 through the nose. As you do, visualize the Kether sphere
above your head gathering energy, becoming more vibrant. Hold
breath for a count of 4. Exhale and visualize the Light from
Kether, traveling down the left side of your body and into
Malkuth at your feet. Pause both the breath and the Light at
Malkuth for a count of 4. Inhale a count of 4, bringing the Light
from Malkuth up the right side of your body back into Kether.
Pause for count of 4, repeat this cycle 3 -4 times.

Repeat the entire sequence, in the exact same manner, for the
opposite direction (down right side of body, up left side) for
3-4 cycles, ending at Kether above the head.

Repeat entire sequence, in exact same manner, down the front

of the body and up the backside of the body, 3-4 cycles, and its
reverse (down back side of body, up front side), 3-4 cycles,
ending at Kether above the head.
Note from the Ciceros' The Balance between Mind and Magic:

"The direction of circulation (down the left and up the right)

has a tendency to energize power in the Middle Pillar, resulting
in a feeling of energy increase and a swelling in the Body of
Light. The other direction (down the right and up the left)
tends to relax the energy body, possibly resulting in a trancestate. The direction of circulated energy down the front of
the body and up the back and vice versa tends to cleanse the
Subtle Body."

Circulation 2 - The Fountain Breath: Inhale for a count of 4

through the nose. Visualize Kether above your head gathering
energy, becoming more vibrant. Hold breath for a count of 4.
Exhale and visualize the Light from Kether showering down 3-4
feet outside the side body, curving down to Malkuth at the feet.
Hold the Light and breath at Malkuth for a count of 4. As you
inhale for a count of 4, bring the Light up your Middle column,
hold at Kether, and pause for count of 4. Repeat 6x.

The Fountain Breath technique has the effect of healing all

levels of the soul, for it transverses all 4 Qabalistic Worlds,
and has a cleansing effect on the aura.

Circulation 3 The Spiral: Imagine the energy gathering at the

Malkuth sphere at your feet. Take a long, slow in breath through
the nose, while spiraling the counter clockwise energy around the
outside of your body from Malkuth to Kether. Ensure the
movement of the Light is synched with your in breath. As it
reaches Kether, pause and exhale. As you exhale, imagine the
Light exploding off your body into millions of pieces. Repeat also
for clockwise motion. Then, repeat the sequence from Kether to

Malkuth, in both directions. While breathing is employed in the

Spiral circulation, it is not as vital to maintaining the uniformity
of the 4-fold pattern. The inhalation is quite longer here.

At this point, remain standing for a few minutes, feeling the

energies invoked, and taking notice of their effects. Notice any
differences in feeling. Close with the Qabalistic Cross. Note
any insights, feelings, or changes, in your journal.

After some time is spent with the Middle Pillar Ritual, perhaps
3 months, and familiarity with rudiments, methodology, and
effects has been attained, we can proceed to visualize the
Sephirot in their appropriate (Briatic) colours. As white contains
the potential and presence of all colours, the effect
is more generalized, more balanced.
As colours in and of themselves are powerful energies, employing
the specific colours of the Sephirot allows one to harness the
specific energies of a Sephirah more acutely.
Recall The Sephirot and their associated colours are below:
KETHER: BLINDING WHITE
DAATH: INDIGO-GRAY
TIPHARETH: GOLD
YESOD: VIOLET
MALKUTH: BLACK

INNER MASTERY

APPENDIX A:
ONGOING PRACTICE AND LIVING

By Theodosios

DAILY RITUAL WORK: (20-30 MINUTES)

Rhythmic Breathing.
Open with Qabalistic Cross and Tree of Life Meditation.
Simple prayer of devotion, request (optional)
The Middle Pillar Ritual.

Close with The Qabalistic Cross, and prayer of gratitude.

ONGOING INTEGRATION:

YHVH - See everything in the universe as a dynamic, evolving

process. All solid objects, people, thoughts, emotions, actions,
events. Both Qabalah and modern physics teach in actuality,
nothing is static, or solid.

Who is aware? Focus on the part of You is experiencing,

viewing, observing, and thinking. Though you have thoughts and
feelings, they are not who you are. They are simply something
you experience.

I AM Notice whenever you make a declaration: I AM, they

ARE, he/she/that IS; Notice the implications. Notice the
judgment. Where is coming from? Is it your Ego? Notice the
level of attachment you have.

The Divine Spark In All - Every time you see or think of a

person, or even yourself, mentally affirm.

- Whatever appears on the outside is simply a biological shell.

- Whatever wrong anyone does, is the work of the Ego.
- I completely forgive, accept, and love everyone unconditionally.
- For within us all shines a pure, holy spark of The Divine.

Remember that evil/destructive behaviour is never the work

of the soul, but of the Ego, based in fear and vulnerability.
We simply recognize the Divine Spark resident in all beings.

Everything in its proper place See every event as a small

but important part of the greater universe and larger plan,
realizing all variables that had to occur, in their precise order,
in their precise timing, for that event to take place.

The Divine in Me - See every event, every person, every

thought, every feeling, every action, as if through the eyes of
The Divine Light.

And..MOST important of all

Realize everything in the world as

ultimately seeking to return to Pure
Divine Joy!

Thank you for being part of this incredible sacred

journey, for supporting my work, and for helping
spread a very needed spark of Divine Light into our
World. May the glorious tradition of Qabalah bring
you your destiny of Joy, Wisdom and Harmony.
