Duration: 50 minutes
Unit 9: Talk to me
Class: 9 th grade
AIMS: By the end of the lesson students will be able to:
Utilize phrasal verbs and other expressions used to describe different ways of speaking
Distinguish between the differences in meaning of some commonly confused verbs
connected with speaking: say, tell, speak, talk.
Use specific vocabulary to talk about interactive television: remote control, TV channel, TV
programme, interactive television, technology
Assumed knowledge: The students know alot about television and are able to use specific language
to talk about interactive television.
Materials: Upper Intermediate Course book, Longman Publishing, chalk, notebooks, worksheets,
computer.

a)The teacher intoduces the theme of the lesson by


asking students to think about expressions used for
speaking.
b) Students offer their oppinions.
c) The teacher asks the students to read out the
vocabulary exercise and match the verbs in italics

Activity 4
(10 minutes)

with their correct definitions.


d) The students do the task.
e) The teacher will ask the students to remember
the expressions form the previous task in order to
free practice them by working in pairs.
f) The students do the task and the teacher checks
their answers .
h)The teacher asks the students to rewrite the
sentences in exercise 3 page 87 by replacing the
parts in italics with the correct forms of the
expressions already used in the previous tasks.
g). The students do the task.
h). The teacher asks the students to make up their
own questions they could ask their partner using
the expressions in italics.
I)The students do the task and the teacher reviews
their answers.
J) The students work in pairs to ask and answer
the questions in exercise 5 page 87 giving details.
The teacher draws students attention to the
differences between say, tell, talk and speak.
The students are asked to read out the sentences
from the watch out box saying which one is
incorrect motivating their answers.
Example: She said me that she was ill is incorrect
because we dont use a pronoun after said.It should
be: She said that she was ill.
He talks Japonese very well-is incorrect because we
use the verb speak when we are reffering to
languages.

To distinguish

The teacher hands out the students a worksheet


asking them to fill in the gaps with say, tell, talk,
speak in their correct forms. The students are asked
to work individualy to solve the task.
The teacher monitors the students activity around
the class and then checks their performance.
Activity 5
(10 minutes)

The teacher writes on the blackbord the word


interactive and asks the students if they know what
this word means.
The students answer the question and the teacher
brainstormes with the students to find other uses of
word interactive( i.e interactive televisioninvolving communication between the television
and the person using it).
The teacher asks the students to skim the text and
to chose the correct title which best summarises the
