NARRATIVE REPORT
a. Introduction
Internship or on the job training is one way by which we students are
given an opportunity to apply the theories and computations that we have
learned from school. It also helps us to obtain applicable knowledge and
skills by performing in actual work setting. Colleges and universities require
their students to undergo such training within a specific number of hours as
part of the curriculum
For us students, an OJT or internship program provides opportunities to
go through the actual methodologies of a specific job using the real tools,
equipments, and documents. In effect, the work place becomes a
development venue for us student trainee to learn more about our chosen
field and practice what we have learn from academy.
On the other hand, a valuable OJT program also profits the companies
who accept trainees. First OJT or intern provides extra manpower for a less
significant labor cost than a regular employee. Most of them are all eager to
learn the ropes so chances are high that theyll be given a chance to work on
the same company as an employee after graduating.
Employers can use this internship strategy as method in recruiting
employees. Since the trainer or supervisor can follow the trainees progress,
he can gauge based on performance, behavior and attitude if the trainee will
make good recruit after the completion of his internship.
We trainees can bring fresh ideas into the organization. Given the
opportunity to converse our minds freely and without fear, we may be able
to contribute significantly in brainstorming sessions or research and
eventually help improve the organizations productivity.
While training the interns, employers are in fact also teach their employees
to guide the trainees by stretching their patience, develop teaching skills and
make them more sensitive to the needs and mind set of the younger
generation. The course of supervision also teaches them how to share what
they know and be receptive to questions. Hence, the internship also
becomes an avenue in training for future managers of the company.

Company/Institution/Organizational History
Sometime in 1983, the members of San Miguel Municipal Council and the community

folks of Mati, San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur together with the Department of Education,
Culture and Sports (DECS) officials strongly supported the move of Assemblyman Vicente
Madarang Cerilles for the creation of a barangay high school in Mati. The school was named
Josefina H. Cerilles Memorial Barangay High School in honor of the assemblymans beloved
wife who was once a supervisor of DECS. This was approved through a Sangguniang Bayan
Resolution No. 23 in April 1983 and Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution No. 295-A in 1984
pursuant to DECS Order N0.6, series of 1983.
Mr. Crispin Mag-usara took the leadership of the newly created school and not long after,
Mr. Fortunato Gumintad succeeded him as teacher-in-charge. With the cooperation of the
schools faculty and staff, and the residents of the community, Mr. Gumintad made a lot of
improvements of the school which was originally constructed out of light materials.
In 1987, when all barangay high schools in the country were fully nationalized, the
schools name was changed to Josefina H. Cerilles National High School. In the succeeding year,
it was one of the lucky recipients of the Secondary Education Development Program (SEDP)

building package and subsequently thereafter, the U.S. AID academic building package.
On February 25, 1995, Josefina H. Cerilles National High School was converted into
Josefina H. Cerilles Polytechnic College by virtue of the Republic Act 7895 authored by
Congressman Antonio H. Cerilles. With this development, the High School Department became
the laboratory school of the Teacher Education Department of the College.
In 1996, Josefina H. Cerilles Polytechnic College started its full operation as a CHEDsupervised institution with Mr. Francisco Caylan of the DECS as its officer-in- charge. The first
eight faculty members of the college were Mrs. Filomena G. Montealto, Mrs. Winifreda L. Rico,
Mrs. Daylinda P. Sulong, Mrs. Mila A. Samin, MissNelia b. Aragon, Engr. Jerry B. Superales,
Mr. Lumabao B. Sanlao and Mr. Jesus B. Purisima.
In 1997, Mrs. Filomena G. Montealto was appointed as Vocational School Superintendent
and since then, she took the lead in all the educational ventures of the College while at the same
time upholding its vision, mission and goals by providing quality and relevant education to all its
students.
After six years of operation as a CHED-supervised institution, JHCPC was converted
into Josefina H. Cerilles State College in August 11, 2011 by virtue of the Republic Act 9159
authored by Congresswoman Aurora E. Cerilles. Dr. Filomena G. Montealto was appointed as
the first president of the state college.
On February 21, 2005, Dr. Montealto tendered her voluntary resignation as president of
the College due to health reasons. The JHCSC-Board of Trustees designated Mr. Dante B.
Bayocot, the school registrar, as the officer-in-charge of the College.
In order to make education accessible to the poorest of the poor in the province of
Zamboanga del Sur, JHCSC campuses were opened in the municipalities of Tigbao, Lapuyan,
Dimataling, Mahayag, Tambulig, and Ramon Magsaysay in June of 2005. Three former Western
Mindanao State University-External Studies Units (WMSU-ESU) were affiliated to JHCSC
during this year. It was also the year which marked the opening of JHCSC-Pagadian Campus.
In June 2006, two new campuses were opened in the municipalities of Josefina and San Pablo. A
former WMSU-ESU in the municipality of Margosatubig was affiliated to JHCSC in June of this
year. CMSECAT (Canuto MS Enerio College of Arts and Trade) in the municipality of
Lakewood was integrated to the college in October of the same year.
On December 1, 2006, Dr. Carlicita A. Saniel, was appointed by the JHCSC-BOT as
President of the college to serve the remaining term of Dr. Filomena Montealto while Mr. Dante
B. Bayocot assumed his former position as college registrar.
In March 2007, Dr. Carlicita A. Saniel was installed by JHCSC-BOT as the second
President of the college. During her term of office, new campuses were opened to cater the
educational needs of the poor but deserving students of Zamboanga del Sur. These campuses are
located in the municipalities of Vincenzo Sagun (opened in June 2007), Tabina (October 2007),

Guipos (June 2009) and Sominot (June 2009). The integration of ZSAC (Zamboanga del Sur
Agricultural College) to JHCSC in June 2009 led to the birth of JHCSC-Dumingag Campus.
This was followed by the opening of a satellite campus of JHCSC-Main in Dumalinao and the
satellite campus of JHCSC-Dumingag in Molave and Aurora.
On June 15, 2012, JHCSC-BOT confirmed Dr. Carlicita A. Saniel as President of JHCSC
for the second term. Today, The College has 21 campuses located in the different municipalities
of Zamboanga del Sur. Its main campus is preparing for its Level 1 accreditation with AACCUP.

Logo & its meaning

The seal symbolizes the vision and mission of the college:

The circle is enclosed by an undulating figure which signifies continuity, the ever- continuous
commitment of the College to improve quality of life of the citizenry within the peninsula.
Within the circle is a gray-colored gear which signifies the dream translated to action.
Technology enhances the capacity and capability to be productive and self-reliant.
In the middle of the seal are an open book and a torch which symbolize education to liberate the
minds of individuals from the bondage of ignorance.
The other symbols like the shield and the twig signify culture, peace, and productivity. The
College believes that in order to foster development, we should acknowledge the role of the
intricate tapestry of culture. Once culture is enriched, peace and productivity will be attained.

c. Classroom Learnings

On-the-job training (OJT) is common in both large and small organizations. It

is usually done informally, with an experienced colleague or mentor overseeing or
teaching the trainee. It may take place in a classroom, on the plant floor, or in any
other place where work is being performed.
OJT is usually quite cost-effective, because it focuses on the tasks at hand, and
requires no equipment beyond what the company already provides. It's also much
less disruptive than other forms of training, because employees aren't removed
from their duties, but are instead trained for their work while doing it.
The actual training is usually done by a manager or supervisor who is
coaching employees while they work. Supervisor feedback tends to be immediate,
and trainees often improve their job performance quickly. Employees also feel more
confident about their job performance when they are being coached by supervisors,
and on-the-job training is a good way for new employees to build relationships with
their comrades.

d. Issues and Concernsp

There are, however, potential issues with on-the-job training. Supervisors and
experienced employees may not have the needed skills for training other
employees. Often, supervisors or managers were promoted because they were good
at performing or managing their own work, but this doesn't guarantee that they also
possess the skills or ability to coach new employees. Not everyone is a born
teacher.
Time also can be a huge issue! Supervisors and mentors may not have the
time to spare to help new employees. And since on-the-job training usually follows
no formal procedure or specified content (other than the task at hand), supervisors
and mentors will need still more time, to pass on the extra knowledge, skills, and
business context that employees will need to solve future job problems and respond
to business changes. So upper management must give employees who are doing
this training the time they need.
During on-the-job training, trainees also need time to practice the skills they
must learn. In turn, supervisors and trainers must prepare adequate drill materials
for trainees, and provide feedback early and often in the drilling process, to prevent
trainees from acquiring unwanted job behaviors. So again, upper management must
make sure that everyone gets the time they need.
An often-overlooked issue that can plague on-the-job training is company lingo.
Trainees must receive a clear, consistent understanding of the concepts and terms
used in their organizations. And even when an employee says they understand a
word or concept, they may not. They will often say they understand to avoid looking
incompetent. So supervisors and mentors must keep this in mind, and constantly
repeat and reinforce the terms and concepts that new employees must learn.
And on top of all the above, supervisors and mentors are only human. They can
easily pass on their own counter-productive habits to other employeesand must
work hard to avoid doing so.
e. Recommendations to improve company
*Lacking books in the library.
*Students must wear their proper uniform.
*Registrars office is not usually close, some files is not safe.
f. Summary of the OJT Experience and other functions accomplish
during the OJT

OJT or On-Job-Training is the activity of the students where in they are trained or
prepared to a certain job or career. It is also a requirement of a course before graduation. The
students are assigned in different branches of government of private offices wherein they are
assigned or perform their work to prepare and exposed themselves to a chosen career.

I have my OJT in JHCSC or Josefina Herira Cerilles State College located at

Tambulig, Zamboanga del Sur. At first I feel so nervous and excited as well, it was hard for me to
interact with them, come to think of it, they were professionals and Im just a student trainee. I
just trained myself to act like a professional like them so that it will be easy for me to work with
them. As time goes by, i found myself working harmoniously with them, the employees there
was so nice and good to me and they treat each other as a family.
In my first day of my OJT, I feel so nervous as I enter the office, the OIC of the
Operation Division orient me their rules and regualtions. Sir Dennis C. Colegado assigned me at
the office of the registrar.I have experience new environment, new acquaintances who are
professionals and every task that given to me. It was my first time but Thanks to GOD he gave
me enough strength finish my task. Through this experience i learned a lot,i learn to be more
patient in every task that given to me even though it is hard and you dont like it. I also
exeprience to answer their phone calls, the funny thing with that is every time i answer the
phone, the caller will look one of the employee, then Ill just shout their names, then who ever
came in the table to get the phone, Ill just remembering their faces then listed and memorize
their names so that next time i already know them, funny to think but i learn a lot.
I learn a lot of things in my OJT, some of it I adopt and apply to myself and some of
it helps develop my skills and enhance my knowledge. I was so thankful that I have my OJT in
this office. I learn to be more patient in every task that given to me, to be nice and humble in
every person I interact and most of all to LOVE MY WORK.

JOURNAL
For the Two to Three months of training, I could say it was really such a great
adventure, It was really a great experience for me and i would treasure it for my
whole life. This was the first time that Ive felt being like an employee, I've never
imagined such thrilling event in my life. All of the Struggling, sacrifices, pain,
laughter and the happiness, that we've shared, Its amazing how we've been able
to gained such memories and experience for a very short period of time. During the
training i almost forgot that i was just an ojt student, i felt that i was already an
employee and Ive been part of the company.
I just feel sad right now because sooner or later all of this thing will end, eventually.
But everything that Ive experienced during the precious days of training i think all
seems to worth it. Imagine for a short period of time in training Ive been able to do
things which also an employee.

LEARNING EXPERIENCE
It was the 18thday of April year 2016, when I started my on the Job training
at JH.Cerilles State College Tambulig-ESU. It was located at Tambulig, Zamboanga
del Sur. I stayed at the office of the registrars and it serve as my main training
grounds. Some of the faculties in this school were employee that may help me in
my learning experience. In some other times we met reserved officers and staff due
to some reasons. My first day was that good for me its because Im familiar with
the employee and in
the kind of work they may given to me. Filling of important files and daily reports
was very easy task, but in my first days its been very hard for me to file bundles of
reports. Before filing documents, I have to sort the different kinds of reports. My
training supervisor thought me how to print the daily reports, file and the proper
way of answering the people. At first, my supervisor gives me the instruction for the
work they were given, but when I already get familiar to these sheets me do it with
myself. I was train it before and observed the daily activities and practices of the
employees inside the office, as well as the rules and regulation that all staffs and
faculty must fulfill with, and of course as trainees, we must wear corporate attire
from Monday to Friday. As a trainee, I have to be at the office on or before 8:00 am.
Absences are recorded at our DTR and we have to ask the officers before we leave
the office premises. We have to give valuable reasons for leaving. I participated in
the normal operation of the office by doing the tasks that is assigned to me. During
my training I learned to interact and get socialized with other people. I know that
people have different individuality and attitudes, however making friends with my
co-trainee and in the staffs and officers doesnt make difficult. They dont treat me
like others. And as a trainee, I dont feel tight working with them and thank you to
maam PEMAR E. VELASCO and all faculties to treat me as friend and also to Sir
GIDION PASCUBILLO to all snacks and dinner sometimes lunch.
