A. How will my top cap being on or off affect how far the rocket will go?
B. If the top is on with 100 ML then it will go higher because with the top off the air will push the
rocket down and the pressure will be released.

5 controlled variables:
75 psi, label off, right triangle, 15cm long, 11 cm out, 3 fins, 20oz top, 2 liter bottom, 100ml top,
1000 ml in bottom,
Materials:
Rocket (Control Rocket: -75 psi, label off, right triangle, 15cm long, 11 cm out, 3 fins, 20oz top, 2 liter
bottom, 100ml top, 1000 ml in bottom, top cap on), rocket launcher, meter stick, cardboard, open and
top bottle, some way to measure, water, open field
Procedure:
Build rocket following the control rocket (Control Rocket: -75 psi, label off, right triangle, 15cm
long, 11 cm out, 4 fins, 20oz top, 2 liter bottom, 100ml top, 1000 ml in bottom, top cap on). So to create
the rocket you take a 2 liter and a 20 oz and put the cap tops on opposite sides facing out, duck tape them
together by rolling it around and around the bottles. Then duck tape the wings on with the required sizes
and you are good. Put 100 ml in the 20 oz bottle and put 1000 ml on the top 2 liter. Then once you have
created your control rocket, take the top off for one experiment and you keep it on for one experiment.
Then shoot it off and measure how far it goes in the open field.

C. Write a conclusion.
1. Does your data support your hypothesis? Why or why not? (Describe by referring to your
data! Be sure you talk about your data and graph.) Yes we were right , because with the top
off it didn't go far at all distances like 9, 9, and 6 and with the top on with 0 water the
distances also were bad like 9, 6, and 12. Our hypothesis was “If the top is on with 100 ML
then it will go higher because with the top off the air will push the rocket down and the
pressure will be released.”
2. What changes would you make if you did the experiment again and why? (Be specific to the
individual experiment…NOT “Be more accurate” “Do more trials”) The changes I would
make to our experiment is to make sure we have the EXACT same amount of water,
because sometimes we were a little to easy going with that, and it might have been more
accurate with better water measuring.
