COMMUNITY SERVICE

July 2014-present: Bridges of Hope: Annual fundraising activities ongoing for


medical missions and nursing conferences in Burkina Faso, West Africa

June 2013: CARNA Jurisprudence Online Survey: I completed this survey and
was later invited to participate in item writing for CARNA Jurisprudence Continuing
Competence.

June 2013: Canada Wide Science Fair: Discovery Day volunteer. I was a planning
committee member, attended all planning meetings, and made the suggestion to
use a Zombie scenario to explain viral transmission, protection, prevention and
treatment to middle/high school aged participants. I participated throughout the
Discovery Day activities assisting where need and facilitating simulation activities.

March 2013: Bridges of Hope Medical Mission, Burkina Faso. I was invited to
assist Public Health nurses and LPNs in Southern Alberta that are involved with
BOH to plan and coordinate a nursing conference for community and facility nurses
in Burkina Faso. These nurses invited our team of nurses to prepare the
information and delivery it at the local hospital. We also were involved in
community health teaching in a small village clinic and in a small village school.

Spring 2013-present: Lethbridge North Family Care Clinic Planning Working


Group: I was invited to sit on this committee to participate in the planning and
development of a proposal for an AHS Family Care Clinic (FCC). This project is inprocess

April 2012: CRNE Item Writing Participant: Participated in the week-long CRNE
item writing session of a three-year term (Ottawa, ON)

May 2012-September 2013: Oldman River Health Advisory Council (AHS):


Board member. Attend quarterly meetings and involved in planning seasonal
events, fund-raising and other community events.

Annual: Supporting Our Students Campaign. Since I began employment with the
UofL, I contributed to the SOS campaign each year. However, several years ago I
created the Bob, Carolyn and Jeff Neilson Memorial Bursary in Nursing as a way to
honor my family and give back to the University Community by assisting a student
in financial need. Monthly contribution.

Annual: Alberta Registered Nurses Educational Trust (ARNET). Monthly


contribution.
