Unit 13 Recruitment and Selection

Learning outcome: - Be able to participate in a selection interview

Task sheet 4 P4, plan to take part in a selection interview
As part of the review of recruitment and selection processes at North West Kent
College, you have been asked, as part of a group, to design documentation
appropriate for the recruitment and selection process. The work that your group
produces for this part of the assignment can be used as a resource for your
controlled assessment with a view to incorporating the documentation into the
Colleges recruitment and selection processes.
Task a
In preparation for the forthcoming interviews to be carried out for the role of
Administrative Assistant you must list 10 suitable questions to ask at interview.
Guidance

Carry out internet research in relation to commonly used interview

questions
Review the requirements set out in the job description and person
specification. Ensure your interview questions are framed around these
documents, remember the purpose of the interview questions is to help
interviewers decide on the suitability of the applicant for the job role
Ensure that you present your 10 interview questions in the order in which
they should be asked at interview

Task b
Your group has decided that an interview checklist would be a useful document in
order to ensure that the selection interviews go ahead without any confusion or
difficulties.
Design a suitable checklist for the interview
Guidance Your checklist should consider the following:
i)
ii)
iii)

iv)

What essential documents are needed at the interview?

student text book).
What the date and time of the interview will be. Include your planned

v)

How you will ensure equal opportunities for all candidates.

Task c
In your experience of working in Human Resources dealing with recruitment and
selection, you are concerned about the time that it takes to filter through
applications and shortlist applicants. Collectively your group has decided to
design a Shortlist Form.
Create a Shortlist Form suitable for the selection process for the role of
Administrative Assistant with the intention of routinely using the form for all
future recruitment selections
Guidance

Carry out internet research

Reflect on the shortlist form used during the classroom group activity

Task d
A number of employees who are responsible for carrying out selection interviews
at North West Kent College have complained that there is not a simple method for
summarising and taking brief notes during the interview of applicants responses to
interview questions.
Interviewers feel that a simple but clear Interview
Assessment Form would be of benefit to them.
Design an Interview Assessment Form which you will pilot during the
interview for the position of Administrative Assistant.
Guidance

In addition to the guidance provided by your tutor, carry out internet

research to help you with this task
Your interview assessment form must be user friendly, not too complex,
keep this in mind when you are designing your form.

Task e & f
These tasks cannot be completed until after the interview role plays are finished.
Task Sheet 6 provides the assessment criteria for both of these tasks.
