DESIGN PARAMETERS

These pages present the criteria for materials and loadings to be used
in the structural design of Power House

1. REFERENCE DOCUMENTS:
1. BS 6399 Part 1 Loadings for Buildings (Dead & Imposed
Loads)
2. BS 6399 Part 2 Loadings for Buildings (Wind Loads)
3. BS 6399 Part 3 Loadings for Buildings (Imposed Roof Loads)
4. BS EN 179-2008 Building Hardware - Emergency Exit Devices
Operated by a Lever Handle or Push Pad, for Escape Routes
5. ACI 318-08 Building Code Requirements for Structural
Concrete (American Concrete Institute)
6. PCA Notes on ACI 318-08 (Portland Cement Association)
7. IBC 2006 (International Building Code)
8. ASCE 7-05 Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other
Structures (American Society of Civil Engineering)

Criteria)

2. MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS
a) Structural Concrete
Following minimum 28 days concrete cylinder strength will be
used for the design:
fc

= 35 MPa (5000 psi) for Beams & Slabs

fc

= 45 MPa (6500 psi) for Columns

b) Reinforcing Steel

Hot rolled deformed steel bars conforming to ASTM standard

A-615, with the following minimum yield strength will be used.
fy
= 420 MPa (60,000 psi) (for main & shear
reinforcement)

c) Modulus of Elasticity
Ec = 4700
For Concrete

fc'
