ABSTRACT
Colloidal crystals based on silica (SiO2) nanoparticles were
synthesized using Sol-Gel process (Stber-Fink-Bohn
method) and deposited over silicon and quartz substrates
using the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique. The resulting
films consist of monolayers of particles arranged in large
areas of well-ordered domains with hexagonal compact
structure. The high monodispersity of the synthesized
particles made possible the deposition in self-assembled
close-packed 2D crystal structures.
A reduction of Au was prepared and deposited, by means of a
HAuCl4 solution, over the ordered monolayers of particles.
The deposit was made through three different ways: droplets,
immersion (dipping) and continuous evaporation after
immersion. As a result, two different kind of coverages were
deposited, two of these on the top of the particles and a third
one, surrounding the particles and covering the interstices
between them (Fig. 1).

after the deposit of an Au reduction. The top and the

interstices between the particles are covered by the Au.
Morphological and structural characterization of the silica
monolayers before and after the Au deposit were carried out
using atomic force microscopy (AFM) and field emission
scanning electron microscopy (FESEM).
Transmittance measurements over a wide wavelength range of
400 to 1000 nm were performed using a photospectrometer.
This study reveals that the anti-reflective signal was improved
after the addition of Au to the silica particles monolayers.
Colloidal films can find application in photonics but also as
smart surfaces with controllable photocatalytic properties.
They are also promising for applications in bioengineering,
sensors and photovoltaic cells.

ABSTRACT
The generation of energy through highly efficient technique
has been a hot topic among researcher. Now a day,
electrochemical devices such as polymer electrolyte
membrane fuel cell and supercapacitor are treated as one of
the best alternatives for energy storage purposes. Proton
Exchange Membrane fuel cells for green vehicles have been
recognized all over the world. The polymeric electrolyte
membrane fuel cell and supercapacitor form an integral part
and hence require intensive research. Studies have been
carried out on polythiophene intensively as it has a unique
structure. It is an electron-rich aromatic heterocyclic. It also
has better environmental stability, high electrical conductivity
>400 S cm-1 which is higher than that of other conducting
polymers such as poyaniline, polypyrrole and also has an
interesting electrochemical behavior. Carbon nanotubes are

also a significant contributor to the performance of energy

storage devices. It possesses useful properties like high
surface area, chemical stability under oxidative/reductive
conditions, good electrical and thermal conductivity. For
present work we have synthesized a highly efficient polymer

Polythiophene and CNT. The major objective of this paper is
to emphasize on the structural, morphological, and thermal
properties of the composite of PTP-CNT using XRD, FESEM,

ABSTRACT
We study a tight-binding model of the supercubane lattice
with spin-orbit coupling. By calculating the band structure of
the lattice and evaluating the Z2 topological indices, we find
the supercubane lattice supports various topological nontrivial
insulators. According to the Z2 topological indices, we
present the phase diagrams of the lattice with different filling
fractions. We find at 1/8, half and 3/8 filling, strong
topological insulators with Z2 indices(1;111) and (1,000) are
present and at quarter filling only (0;111) weak topological
phases can be obtained. We analyze and discuss the
characteristics of these topological insulators and their surface
states. Constant-energy spin textures are also evaluated for
different slab geometries and we find different slab surfaces
present different spin textures.

ABSTRACT
It has been reported that the water fruit extract of Crescentia
cujete have many traditional claims for herbal medicine.
However the safety of its use during pregnancy has not been
fully investigated. The ethanolic fruit extract (25%, 75%, and
100%) was given to Sprague Dawley rats on days 6 to 19 of
gestation, that is, organogenetic period. Maternal organ and
fetal weight were recorded, the morphometric indices such as
Hind-limb length, Forelimb length, Crown-rump length and
head-lip length of the fetus were carried out. Blood samples
were also collected through cardiac puncture and were
deposited into a vacutainer with anticoagualant EDTA. The
hematological value comprises of hemoglobin, hematocrit,
white blood cell and platelet count was carried out. Results
showed that rats treated with 100% of the fruit extract were
significantly (P>0.05) heavier than those treated with lower
concentrations and the control. The Control group had the
heaviest fetal weight with 4.93667g, while the 100%
concentration had the smallest fetal weight with 3.5625g. The
blood counts shows that the control group is within every
expected range (with the exception of the 25% group in the
WBC count, which exceeds the expected range of 5.0-10.0
x10^9/L). Results show that continuous consumption of
higher concentrations of the extract during gestation can alter
the growth and development of the fetus and maternal organs
and the maternal blood count. Therefore, with utmost caution,
should be done by man in using this extract during pregnancy.

ABSTRACT
In Static List Scheduling (SLS), initially the ALAP (As Late
As Possible) algorithm is performed, followed by ASAP (As
Soon As Possible) algorithm. The time interval for control
steps and successor selection are the vital drawback of ASAP
algorithm. Hence, in this paper, the optimized scheduling
algorithm is proposed for High Level Synthesis (HLS), where
the ALAP in SLS is followed by Force Directed Scheduling
(FDS). The proposed scheduling algorithm is implemented in
Icarus Verilog and targeted in ZC7020 FPGA board. The
proposed optimized scheduling algorithm is evaluated in
terms of control steps and resource utilization. The evaluation
is carried out for various benchmarks such as, EW Filter, IIR
filter, FIR filter, AR filter and Discrete Cosine Transform
(DCT). The achieved results in terms of the control steps and
resource utilization (i.e. LUT and Flip-flop) shows the
proposed optimized scheduling algorithm outperforms the
conventional Static List Scheduling (SLS) algorithm.

By Brundtland Report '"Sustainable development is
development that meets the needs of the present without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their
own needs. It is an organizing principle for human life.
Sustainable development relates to the concern of utilizing
natural resources facing the social, economic and
environmental challenges for the humanity. Sustainable
development assumes a desirable future state for human
societies in which living conditions and resource-use are met
in near future without affecting the natural systems and the
environment. So that future generations may also have their
needs met.
In sustainable development everyone is a user and provider of
information. We being the part of the system should get
responsible to each other and towards the natural resources to
be sustained. Sustainable development provides to create a
right pattern for production and consumption. The question of
sustainability arises as demand is increasing day by day but
resources are limited. Earth as a planet with natural capital is
being over-utilized, leading to devastating effects such as
depleting fish stocks, loss of fertile soil, shrinking forests and
increasingly unpredictable weather patterns, depletion of
Ozone layer, melting of glaciers etc. Furthermore use of toxic
chemicals in our societies is harmful to human and
environmental health. Therefore green livelihoods are
required to encompass the right to safe and secure societies
that are free from toxic threats to people, surrounding
environments and to future generations.
So some changes are needed for the sustainable patterns of
consumption, production, resource extraction and disposal
that dominate the world economic system. Sustainable
development implies the fulfillment of several conditions:
preserving the overall balance for the environment and
preventing the exhaustion of natural resources. Reduced

ABSTRACT
Podocarpus (Podocarpaceae) consists of approximately 100
species spreading in the tropical and subtropical regions
worldwide and also in temperate regions in the Southern
Hemisphere. It is often difficult to accurately identify
Podocarpus. DNA barcoding technique is helpful to provide
rapid and accurate taxonomic identification using a specific
DNA region. In this study, unknown Podocarpus samples are
identified using rbcL sequences. Leaf samples were collected
from Bukidnon and Batanes, Philippines. DNA extraction,
PCR amplification and DNA sequencing were consequently
conducted. The rbcL sequence of Podocarpus is about 700 bp
in length.
Molecular identification using Basic Local
Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) for nucleotides reveals that
the sample from Bukidnon is Podocarpus macrophyllus while
that from Batanes is Podocarpus costalis. This identification
may be helpful as an addition to the reference library of
Podocarpaceae. This may allow researchers unfamiliar with
the familys morphology and anatomy make accurate
identification.

ABSTRACT
Macrobenthic invertebrates in the intertidal zone of Barangay
Tagpangahoy, Tubay, Agusandel Norte, a mining identified
area, were assessed. One sampling was done during low tide
on May 5 and 6, 2009. Transect-quadrat method was used in
an approximately 75,000 m2 study area.Three hundred twenty
six individuals belonging to 39 species were found in the area.
These samples belong to three phyla namely: Mollusca,
Echinodermata, and Arthropoda. The top three most abundant
species found were mollusks. These are Planaxissp.,
Neritasp., and Isognomonisognomon with the relative
abundance value of 18.71%, 12.27%, and 8.90% respectively.
Most of the macrobenthic fauna were arranged in a clumped
distribution pattern, while the rest were dispersed uniformly.
About 69.93% of the total numbers of individual present in
the area were found in rocky substrate. Meanwhile, about
13.80% were found in the sandy- rocky substrate; 10.43%
were found in the sandy substrate; and only about 5.83% were
found in the sandy- muddy- rocky substrate. The species
diversity of the area is 3.00, which is relatively higher
compared to reports from other related studies. The values of
pH, salinity and temperature taken were within the normal
range of these characteristics of marine water.

Dowsing is a traditional way to search ground water. Many
traditional methods of dowsing are used. Most dowsers use
forked stick, L-shaped metal rods, coconuts, keys wire,
pendulum, etc. No scientific base for dowsing is explained,
so, its status was uncertain.
The dowsing tools such as L-shaped metal rod,
coconuts and their working is explained. The influence of
gravitational force on these tools is explained. Now a days
impact of dowsing is distinct and used by Geologist,
Engineers and even the Military. The dowsing with no tools is
a popular technique. This paper introduces L-shaped rod

ABSTRACT
We studied the magnetic properties of reduced graphene oxide
(rGO) obtained by high-temperature annealing of graphene
oxide (GO) prepared in different oxidizing conditions. The
rGO
samples
exhibit
strong
room-temperature
ferromagnetism in weak oxidizing conditions, with saturation
magnetization of 0.24 emu/g, about 24 times of the value of
rGO prepared in strong oxidizing conditions. Hysteresis
negative magnetoresistance (MR) has been observed in rGO,
which confirms the intrinsic nature of the observed
ferromagnetism. The strong ferromagnetism is attributed to
the preserved graphitic structure of weakly oxidized rGO, and
the negative MR is due to the spin dependent scattering of
defects. Our results present a direct connection between the
degrees of oxidation and the ferromagnetism, which provides
important clues to explore the essential origination of carbonbased materials magnetism.

This study involves the complete energy audit of the
combined cycle 450 MW power plant. It includes a detailed
energy balance and performance analysis of different cycle
components that includes Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine and
HRSG Unit. Firstly, Gas Turbine has been analysed as a
single independent unit. Various parameters that affect its
performance include the fuel GCV, compressor performance,
and ambient air conditions etc. In this study, all such factors
are examined for their effect on the overall plant performance.
Secondly, Steam Turbines section has been examined which
also includes the condenser and the entire feed-water circuit.
Lastly, HRSG unit is considered where an indirect method of
energy balance has been employed, where prime focus would
be at the various losses occurring during the run time. Heat
losses have also been addressed which might occur due to
insufficient or improper insulation of the entire instalment. In
short, the prime purpose of this study is to evaluate the plant
performance and pin point areas which require improvement.

person and object relationship to improve work efficiency and
productivity of both managers and employees. Many jobs
involve continues or repetitive physical strain which cause
physical work stress to employees. For example: repetitive
tasks like physical movements of hands, wrist, bending,
lifting, data entry work lead to physical injuries and psychosomatic (mind and bodily) disorder for employees. Thus
psychical or mechanical stress is developed in particular body
parts which is known as cumulative Trauma disorders .(CTD)
Organizations of the 21st century are extremely
concern about creating supportive work stations and
encouraging work environment for their employees.
Ergonomics is study of relationship between people and their
work environment were in the work place tasks and tools are
designed to fit individual capabilities so that people can do
their jobs safely. The researcher through this research paper
would like to highlight the importance of ergonomically

Experimental Realization of Quantum walk with Linear

Optics

ABSTRACT
Emerging as the quantum analog of classical random walks
(RWs), quantum walks (QWs) exhibit striking nonclassical
properties and has drawn intense research interests in recent
years with implications in various fields, for instance,
quantum algorithm engineering, universal quantum
computing, quantum simulation of physical system and
important phenomena.
We implement a discrete QW with site-dependent single point
phase defects with linear optics which is mainly a set of
optical interferometers comprising beam displacers, wave
plates and phase shifters. Single-photons created via type-I
SPDC are chosen to be the walker which walks in its position
space represented by longitudinal spatial modes implemented
by beam displacers according to the polarization of photon.
Wave plates are used to prepare the initial state and do the
coin flipping. We introduce site-dependent phase defects to
the QW which is realized by adding fully controllable
polarization-independent phase shifters. With certain settings
for phase shifters and coin-flip wave plates, the translational
symmetry of an ideal standard QW is broken resulting in
localization effect in a QW architecture.
We investigate localization effect in the QW, including the
positions of the localized single-photons and the strength of
localization related to different site-dependent phase defects
and coin settings. The effect would find applications in
quantum algorithms and quantum state engineering. Besides,
the versatility of our setup allows for extensions, such as the
realization of multi-particle QWs, which would help to study
the topological phenomena. Furthermore, the high-quality
interferometer network can also be used in the field of optical
quantum information processing.

ABSTRACT
It is commonly accepted that the earths fossil energy
resources are limited, and the global oil, gas and coal
production will be depleted in time to come, causing prices to
escalate. The purpose of this project is to design and develop a
switch magnetic field generator/motor. Research was
conducted on various designs of existing generator topologies
and electromagnetism methods. The final design was selected
based on complexity and cost. Throughout the semesters, a
demo prototype has been re-designed to evaluate the
effectiveness of the system. Using the theory of attraction and
repulsion forces between the electromagnets, a rotational
force is induced to create a driving motion for the prototype.
The magnetic field strength of the electromagnets does not
solely depend on the core material itself, but also on the
amount of induced current and number of turns of coiled wire
around the magnet. At the end of this project, we will evaluate
my current prototype and give practical recommendations to
improve the design. Harnessing free energy would be a
continuous pursuit of the world and by going green in todays
context would greatly reduce the stress caused on nature.
Every electric device needs an electrical supply as an input.
But in this project, without any electrical input, gets output as
mechanical energy.
As the conventional energy sources are depleting day by day
and unreliability of non conventional energy sources (wind,
tidal, sun, etc),there is need of creating reliable and free
energy source.

ABSTRACT
This paper describes the exergy and energy analysis of
torrefaction process for four different residual biomass (wet
leaf, rice husk, coconut shell and tree bark). Torrefaction is a
thermal process carried out in an inert atmosphere. The
biomass samples were torrified using waste heat from a diesel
engine at a temperature of 240C for a duration of an hour.
With the help of the actual system data, this paper elucidates
the assessment of energy and exergy saved, and energy and
exergy efficiencies. The exergy saved in the overall system is
found to be 0.258 kW, 0.702 kW, 1.812 kW, 2.486 kW for
wet leaf, rice husk, coconut shell and tree bark respectively.
Tree bark is found to have the best performance in the
torrefaction process yielding an efficiency of 58.76% in the
energy yield parameter whereas wet leaf is the least efficient
biomass. It is found that maximum exergy efficiency is
obtained from the reactor if the exhaust from the source is in
the range 430-470C.

unsteady flow by a mixed convection boundary layer past an
impermeable vertical stretching sheet embedded in a
conducting fluid-saturated porous medium in the presence of a
chemical reaction effect. The velocity of stretching surface,
the surface temperature and the concentration are assumed to
vary linearly with the distance along the surface. The
governing partial differential equations are transformed in to
self similar unsteady equations using similarity
transformations and solved numerically by the Runge kutta
fourth order scheme in association with the shooting method
for the whole transient domain from the initial state to the
final steady state flow. Numerical results for the velocity,
temperature, the concentration, the skin friction , and the
Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are shown graphically for
various flow parameters. The results reveal that there is a
smooth transition of flow from unsteady state to the final
steady state. A special case of our results is in good
agreement with an earlier published work.

Energy is crucial to human sustenance and development. Due to the

increase in demand of energy and deficiency in power generation, the
gap between demand and supply of electric energy is widening.
Bridging this gap from the supply side is a very difficult and expensive
proposition. The only viable way to handle this crisis is the efficient
use of available energy. This paper helps to understand and solve this
important problem using a multiple criteria decision making method

Evaluations (PROMETHEE).The method discussed in this paper is very
effective for decision making in energy optimization. One example is
included to illustrate the method.
1. Introduction
Energy management program is a systematic and scientific process to
identify the potential for improvements in energy efficiency, with or
without financial investment, to achieve estimated savings in energy
and energy cost. This requires collection & analysis of existing energy
usage data, careful study of existing equipments, processes and then
suggesting practical & economical ways for saving energy & energy
cost. There is a need for simple, systematic, and logical methods or
mathematical tools to guide decision makers in considering a number
of selection criteria and their interrelations.
This paper presents one such simple, systematic and logical method,
called PROMETHEE. (Preference Ranking Organization Method for

ABSTRACT
Using natural gas as a heating fuel is one of the various uses of this
invaluable fuel. The real and major importance of natural gas can be
realized regarding the natural gas plentiful added value and its
capabilities for being converted into thousands of valuable economic
commodities in the oil and petrochemicals industry as the primary
material and the energy resource. The growing need for gas to
provide energy and fuel, and the foreign currency resulted from sales
and export for investment and launching primary industries in the
country, reinforced the idea of bundling gas industry related activities.
Therefore, in line with this, and based on the legal statute, NIGC as
one of the four major subsidiaries of Iran's Oil Ministry was
established. The initial capital of the company amounted to $25
million, in 1965.
Since its establishment, NIGC has gradually achieved capabilities and
managed to have access to various sources and facilities such as
experts and efficient human force equipped with scientific and

ABSTRACT
University timetabling problem is to determine which course is
assigned to which lecturer and is held on which day and time slot in
order to satisfy a specific objective. It is a time consuming and
complex task as it includes a large number of educational rules. On the
other hand, the existence of numerous courses and lecturers makes the
problem much more complicated. Because of the complexity of the
problem, an efficient timetable is achieved when a mathematical model
is used. In this paper, a new binary model is used to develop a
timetable for an Iranian university. One of the main novelties of the
paper is considering multi-offered courses, courses that are offered
more than once in a term due to large number of students who wish to
take them. The objective function of the model is maximizing
education quality. In fact, the model assigns each course to the most
eligible lecturer. The model is developed based on the real constraints
of the case and is solved using GAMS software.

ABSTRACT
In this paper, a performance analysis of amplify-and-forward
(AF) relaying cooperative diversity system with relay selection is
given when all terminals are moving. We have derived analytical
expressions for probability density function (PDF), cumulative
distribution function (CDF) and moment generating function
(MGF) of end-to-end signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for the
considered system. Then, the symbol error rate performance
(SER) of the system is calculated for MPSK modulation

Due to biodegradable, lightweight, cheaper, nontoxic and

nonabrasive quality- natural fibers in composites has received
much attention to be used as a substitute of synthetic fiber for
acoustic absorption purposes. Among the various natural fibers
the absorption characteristics of- corn, bamboo, jute, sisal,
paddy, kenaf and coir fiber were already have analysed by many
researchers. Mercerization or alkaline treatment of natural fiber
reduces the fiber diameter, thereby increases the amount of fibers
to reach the equal volume of same thickness of the test sample.

As the number of fiber increases per unit area hence the surface
area also increases. Larger surface area leads to more friction of
air molecules with fiber and causes more loss of incident sound
energy and thus enhance the sound absorption. However, due to
the effect of mercerization, the amount of reduction in fiber
which has significant effect in sound absorption of natural fiber,
has not been addressed yet. The study takes this opportunity to
introduce this new concept which might play a significant role
for acoustic absorption purpose of natural fiber. Two analytical
approaches were discussed in this study which are Biot-Allard
model and Johnson-Allard model. Based on the bibliographic
revision, the study proposed to introduce the new concept of
fiber reduction amount in the formulation of these analytical
approaches for enhancement of the value of sound absorption
coefficient at low frequency region. From the overall analyses it
is evident that the fiber reduction amount might help to
demonstrate the importance of pre-treatment of natural fibers for
enhancing their sound absorption property and anti fungus
quality as well.

ABSTRACT
In the previous works [1-4], we suggested that in the materials with
large HOMO-LUMO gaps (DEHOMO-LUMO,N), the Cooper pairs are
formed by the large HOMO-LUMO gaps as a consequence of the
quantization of the orbitals by nature, and by the attractive Coulomb
interactions between two electrons with opposite momentum and spins
occupying the same orbitals via the positively charged nuclei. We
also suggest the reasonable mechanism of the occurrence of granular
high temperature superconductivity in the graphite powder treated by
water or exposed to the hydrogen plasma, discovered by Esquinazi et
al. [6], on the basis of our previous theoretical works described above
[1-4], which can be well confirmed by the recent experimental work
[5]. We also suggest the general guiding principle towards high

temperature superconductivity. We suggest that any material with
large DEHOMO-LUMO,N value (more than a few eV), in which valence
bands are completely occupied by electrons, which has been believed
to be typical insulator in view of solid state physics and chemistry, has
a possibility to exhibit high temperature superconductivity in solids.
We also discuss the relationships between the normal- and
supercurrents in various materials under the external applied fields
such as electric and magnetic fields.

ABSTRACT
After Chernobyl and more recently, Fukushima nuclear accident,
people is concerned about their safety and health. Radioactivity
cannot be noticed by our five senses. To know how much
radioactivity is there in a place we need a specific device, like
our RADIATION SURVEY METER. It has been designed as
economical, easy to use, accurate for the non-technical public to
keep at home or work place and monitor the radioactivity level in
the area.
Our objective is to sense the gamma radiation, display its
intensity and save the data in memory so that it can be further
analysed. The system consists of a gas filled radiation
detector(GM tube) which will sense the radioactivity. The high
DC voltages necessary to polarize GM tube (500-900v)can be
obtained from batteries with few and less expensive electronics
components. The system has been designed using a digital
display technique using microcontroller, LCD and keys. The
system is also facilitated with USB interface.

ABSTRACT
Theme:Strategies for success in raising educational aspirations,
participation and attainment.

Educational systems especially higher education are

development factors and are responsible for change in
communities and cultural development process. For improving
efficiency and effectiveness of an organization whether the
organization is educational or administrative, a continuous
incremental change is needed due to shifting market demands
and advancement in education and technology. But the
question here is that do quality improvement principles have
positive effect on the performance of employees or not? Do
they consider it a burden on themselves or it really improves
their performance as organizations stakeholders. Very little
research has been made on impact of quality principles on the
performance of employees. Employees including faculty have a
direct effect on an institutes performance. This paper explains
quality improvement practices and analyzes its direct and
indirect effects on performance of employees in higher
education institutions. The research is done by collecting data
through survey of several universities in Islamabad, the capital

Pulsed lasers have attracted large attention due to their

significant role as light sources for various current and future
optical systems. Generally, mode-locked pulse can be achieved
by passive or active approaches. Passive mode-locking can be
realized by incorporating a saturable absorber with suitable
properties into the laser cavity. On the other hand, active modelocking can be obtained by implementing active component such
as electro-optic modulator. However, this technique contributes
to the complexity of the system as well as increasing the cost.

Therefore, passive mode-locking is more desirable compared to

active mode-locking and more intensely investigated in the
research world [1-5].In many cases, mode-locked pulse with
tunable pulse width feature is interesting for applications such as
telecommunication, material processing, medicine and micro
fabrication [6, 7]. For example, in telecommunications field,
pulse with tunable pulse-width manages to provide the highest
tolerance to optical transmission impairments [8]. In this work, a
mode-locked fiber laser in Sagnac loop configuration with
controllable pulse width is demonstrated by using different
lengths of polarization maintaining fiber (PMF). Single wall
carbon nanotube (SWCNT) film is used as saturable absorber to
generate the mode-locked pulses. The repetition rate obtained by
varying the PMF lengths ranges from 10.0 to 12.5 MHz and the
pulse width measured ranges from 0.5 to 1.7 ps. The results
obtained show that the pulse width of the mode-locked pulses is
controllable by varying the lengths of the PMF.

ABSTRACT
Compact and stable Q-switched fiber lasers have found
interesting usage in the fields of laser processing, environmental
sensing, medicine, optical communications, reflectometry,
imaging, remote sensing, fiber sensing, manufacturing, and
material processing due to their ability to yield high energy
pulsed lasers. A wideband tunable CNT-based Q-Switched fiber
laser operating in the S-band region using a tunable Fabry-Perot
etalon filter as the wavelength tuning and filtering mechanism is
proposed and demonstrated. The system uses a 15 m long
depressed-cladding erbium doped fiber (EDF) as the gain
medium, while a thin CNT film is sandwiched between two
connectors to function as the SA for the generation of the desired
Q-switched pulses. The tuning range of the laser output carrying

Abstract: This paper proposed a robust nonparametric method to estimate the
slope parameter of a linear functional relationship model in which both
parameters are subject to error. The method is an improvement to the
nonparametric method as proposed by Al-Nasser (2005). The performance of
the proposed method is compared to the traditional maximum likelihood
method using Monte Carlo simulation study. The mean square error of both
these two methods gave somewhat similar results when no outlier exists,
however as the percentage of outlier increases, the maximum likelihood
method seems quite unreliable as its mean square error breaks down easily
and became huge. Based on these findings, we can conclude that as the
percentage of outlier increases, our proposed method gave significantly
smaller mean square error than the nonparametric method (Al-Nasser (2005)).
Application of the proposed method is illustrated using two published
datasets.
