Programs & Tools
Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop
Objectives
Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks
Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skil s for layout with multiple elements
Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image
Apply typography principles (titles, quotes, events or scripturesyour choice)
Format type: Legibility; Small copy & Title with varying text size. Theme word(s)
Select good quality images

Process
I began by sketching possible ideas with the three images I found. I tried to think of the message I wanted to send and the audience that would be
receiving that message. I began playing with the masks and opacity of the different layers in Adobe Photoshop. Taking a one pixel size brush I made
the girl show through the most on the mountain back ground to have her be the focal poin t. I added a black and white filter to the photo with her in
it. I made the mountains more vibrant. I wanted the tree and branches from the black and white photo to show through so I made a mask layer on
the mountains and made them show through more. I then put the floral layer to add more color and brighten up the photo. I took only the flowers
from that layer and masked out everything else. For the body text I chose two different fonts to add contrast and dynamic to the inspirational quote.

Objectives
Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.
Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure.
Incorporate quality images. Incorporate at least four quality images, not including the logo.
One should be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text fol ows the cutout shape of the image.
Write at least 250 words of original copy in at least three paragraphs, headers, and subheaders.
Trim for a ful bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.

Process
This was quite the process. I made a new logo in Adobe Illustrator. I then measured and put my guide lines for the folds on my document in
InDesign. I thought it would be creative to have a box layout and have all the information look as if it was in a box.
When adding the image, I used the place tool and sized them down. The chair image was a little tricky because I had to use Photoshop and
crop out the chair. When this was completed I placed my new image in to InDesign and choose to have my text wrap around the chair.

Objectives
Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work together)
Find, scan and import a high-quality image.
Create a ful -bleed design.
Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your message and audience.
Learn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe programs, including Photoshop.

Process
I scanned an image that I found on the back cover of a magazine in the BYU-Idaho library. I wanted to use the image as the entire background for my ad. I made the title in a red and bold to have it stand out as much as possible and create contrast with the surrounding image.
Within in the body copy I used orange to make the important pieces of the information contrast with the white text. I chose to use the logos
of the companies found online (with permission of my instructor) to add brand recognition and repetition. To also add repetition I decided to name
the fundraiser Give Life, creating repetition with the Life Water brand. I aligned the title to the body copy. With the body copy I aligned the
text with the tree. I also aligned the text at the bottom diagonally with the shadow created in the image.

Process
To begin this project I first had to search my house and the outdoors for photo inspiration. I saw this lemon sitting on my
kitchen table and loved how it looked against the color and with the lighting it just popped! I even took this picture with my
HDR camera app on my iPhone because my Cannon is being borrowed. I then did basic edits in Adobe Photoshop
such as adjusting the lighting levels, playing with the vibrance, and making the yellow stand out even more ever so slightly. I also used the
blemish tool to remove a brown spot that was on the lemon. I knew I wanted to use a monochromatic color scheme with this design and yellow is one of my favorite colors because it reminds me of sunshine so the lemon fit perfectly. After watching several tutorials on how to work
on Photoshop I created the circles and text for my design element.

Objectives
Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page so the long side is 300 500 pixels.
Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience.
Acquire a working knowledge of HTML.
Acquire a working knowledge of CSS. Identify hex colors to match logo, using Photoshop color picker.
Open the HTML page in a web browser and capture a quality screen shot with .5 inch margins for prin ting.

Process
I wrote the HTML/CSS codes using Adobe Dreamweaver. I have never even seen or written HTML or CSS codes so it was in teresting to
see how the words and numbers turned in to images in the web browser. I really enjoyed learning and seeing the changes that each tag made.
I liked how we could use the HTML editor to check the code we wrote to make sure there werent any problems with it. I found the HTML
code to be relatively easy.
While writing the CSS code, I found things to be a bit more complicated. I attached the CSS to the HTML document. I chose not to use the
pre-made CSS code and made my own from scratch instead. I pulled the colors from my original logo on Adobe Illustrator using the eyedropper tool and recording the color number. I picked fonts and chose default fonts as well in case the web browser doesnt have the original font.
I changed the alignments on the text and added margins and spacing. This was the most challenging part of the whole project. I played around
with the pixels until it all looked right.

Objectives
Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign.
Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Do not imitate existing logos or use previous designs. Dont use photos or live trace.
Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead.
Photos are okay on business card and letterhead as additional design elements. Letterhead should be 8.5 x 1 ,
ful -bleed optional, but trim only .125. Business card should be 3.5 x 2 and prin ted above center on a vertical page.
Apply typography rules, keeping small copy. Keep designs simple with light watermarks and drop shadows and plenty of white space.
Include contact information: name, address, phone, website, and email on each piece.
Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone number; no parentheses/ hyphens.

Process
The entire process was completed using Adobe Illustrator. I began by revising my logo and making it more bold. Once I completed the logo I
opened new pages in Illustrator. I worked on I did that by editing an M and adding a third mountain peak.
I worked on creating a business card that was unique.
I wanted my outline of the card to be different so I fol owed the pattern of mountain peaks to create the top. I curved the letters and the
card outline so the edges werent as harsh. I added the needed information to the card and aligned it careful y. I also made the logos for
Facebook and Instagram using the different tools provided in Illustrator.

Process
I made a letterhead using my logo and making it transparent to create a water mark look. I wanted to include the same information provided
in the business card so I copied it over and aligned it with the lower text. I wanted to keep it simple and professional.

Objectives
Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company or personal image that wil appeal to the audience.
Do not imitate existing logos or use previous designs.
Market research: gather opinions from at least ten people about which logo appeals most to them.
Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos.
You may use an image or drawing as a guide to trace it with the pen/pencil, but delete the image before submitting.)
Refine one logo with variations for color.

Process
I began sketching different ideas of various logos on a piece of paper. When I decided on a company and a general logo design for it, I created
three completely different logo designs using Adobe Illustrator. I really liked this design that I chose to use. I made the design using the pen
tool and the polygon tool. I changed the polygon to have three sides to create a triangle. In the revising process I moved the two back triangles further from one another to create the M in Mountain Water company. I also added a white inner triangle outline to the middle one to
add more depth. I then copied the entire image to make two more of the exact same thing. For the middle design, I simply changed the colors
to black then for the last one I changed it all to white and added the teal color block around it.
I then wanted to add the company name in at the bottom to add recognition.

Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.
Incorporate basic InDesign skil s to improve basic flier layout.
Retrieve image and logo from links on this page.
Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links in InDesign in tact.

Process
I began with creating some sketches of four different possible designs. I then used these sketches as a guide to creating the layout in Adobe
InDesign. I chose to organize my information within triangles and different geometric shapes to create organization and create grouping. I
aligned all the different shapes on one side giving strong horizontal and vertical alignments. I added the smaller shapes in the bottom left hand
corner to add repetition. The event title is turned vertically to add contrast and create a focal point for the eye to look at. I have sufficient
white space so the flier overall isnt too crowded and is pleasing to the eye. I also kept the body copy small. I was given the title, logo,
photo, and information for this flier.
