Basic Competence

1. Appreciate and practice their religion

2. Appreciate and practice honest behavior, discipline, responsibility, caring
(mutual assistance, cooperation, tolerance, peace), polite, responsive and
pro-active and show the attitude as part of the solution to various
problems in interacting effectively with the social and natural environment
as well as in position ourselves as a reflection of the nation in the
association world
3. Understanding,

applying,

analyzing

factual

knowledge,

conceptual,

procedural based on the curiosity sense about science, technology, arts,

culture , and humanities with an insight into humanity, national, state, and
civilization-related causes of phenomena and events, as well as applying
procedural knowledge in the field of study according to the specific talents
and interests to solve the problem
4. Processing, reasoning , and presenting in the realm of the concrete and
abstract domains associated with the development of the self-learned at
schoo, and were able to use the method according to the rules of science.

Learning Teaching Activity

Introduction (+10 minutes)
Phase 1 : Clarify goals and prepare students
1. Reviewing the material that presented earlier as the general form of
the quadratic equation and discuss question in meeting before.
2. Teachers deliver the learning objectives of the material to be
studied quadratic equations.
3. Motivating students by providing contextual statement.
Sugeng is basketball player in his school. Sometime, he observe
when he throw ball to ring with shooting. Else, he observe when he
reflect ball to bottom with bound pass. From that ball track that
throwed, Is it a parabola?
4. Teacher tell about prerequisite to draw quadratic fucntion graph.
Main Activity (60 minutes)
Phase 2 : Demonstrate of knowledge or ability
1. Teacher explain material about shortcut, simmetry axis, top point,
maximum and minimum value
2. Teacher demonstrate steps of drawing quadratic function graphic.
Steps of drawing quadratic function graphic/parabola ( y = ax2 + bx
+c):
1. Determine graphic shortcut with x axis y =0
y = ax2 + bx + c
Then, factorise such that we get its roots that is x 1 and x2. If
student difficult to factorise, try to check D-value.

If D<0 then that function also not have equality roots so function
graphic sketchh will not cut x-axis.
If D>0 then that function have quadratic function but we difficult
to determine it. It can caused by number that difficult to
factorise or its factor is decimal form. The roots can we fine with
abc formula:

after we get x1 and x2 value then shortcut of quadratic function

graphic

with

x-axis

as

follow:

( x1 , 0 ) and ( x2 , 0 )
2. determine shortcut of graphic with y-axis x = 0 because
x=0 then y=c and shortcut point with y-axis = ( 0 , c )
3. determine simmetry axis (xp) and extreme point (yp)
From determining simmetry axis (xp) and extreme point (yp) we
get top point of quadratic fucntion graphic/parabola : (x p,yp)
Quadratic function graphic position/parabola to x axis
Recall consideration about shortcut x axis y=0, there is 3
possibility:
D>0 quadratic function graphic cut off x axis in 2 point
D=0quadratic function graphic tangent x axis in 1 pont
D<0quadratic function graphic dont cut off x axis

With combine a-value, we can make quadratic function graphic

sketch/parabola:

Phase 3 : Provide training guide

1. Teacher give exercise that must finished by student
2. Teacher guide student while doing exercise
3. Student doing their task with respectfull and discipline
4. Teacher inform that each student is not allowed cheating other friends
task
Phase 4 : Check for understanding and provide feedback
1. Teacher choose one of students randomly to go in front and write his result
2.
3.
4.
5.

with provided that one question one person.

Teacher tell students that if they go in front, they will get extra score.
Student work checked together.
Teahcer ask student about resistence when they doing task
Teacher with students discuss about question that given at the beginning

Phase 5 : Provide advanced training

1. Teacher with student conclude important point about quadratic equation

2. Teacher give homework from High School Math Class X Books page 98
and will collect next week
