Gatsby’s Body Found in
His Mansion
The mysterious wealthy young
man, Jay Gatsby, found dead by his
neighbor, Nick Carraway, in the
pool of his own mansion in West
Egg, Long Island.
Jay Gatsby, 29 years old, was
killed by George Wilson whom also
found dead in the bush near the pool
in Jay Gatsby’s mansion. According
to the police, George Wilson went
into Jay Gatsby’s mansion with a
gun this afternoon. At that time, Jay
Gatsby was lying on the rubber
mattress in the swimming pool, and
his servants were in the house, so no
one notices George Wilson’s
coming. Then, George Wilson took
out his gun and shoot Jay Gatsby to
death, and committed suicide
afterward.
Jay Gatsby’s neighbor and
also friend, Nick Carraway, came
after being notified by Meyer
Wolfsheim’s driver who heard the
shot. Meyer Wolfsheim was an
acquaintance of Jay Gatsby who is a
Jewish man Gatsby describes as a
gambler who had "fixed the World
Series.” When Nick Carraway got
there, he and Gatsby’s servants
found that Jay Gatsby was dead.
“There was a faint, barely
perceptible movement of the water
as the fresh flow from one end
urged its way toward the drain at the
other. with little ripples that were
hardly the shadows of waves, the
laden mattress moved irregularly
down the pool. A small gust of wind
that scarcely corrugated the surface
was enough to disturb its accidental
course with its accidental burden.
The touch of a cluster of leaves
revolved it slowly, tracing, like the
leg of compass, a thin red circle in
the water.”, said Nick Carraway.
Later, they found George Wilson’s
body in the bush.
After the investigation, the
police found that the reason that
George Wilson killed Jay Gatsby
was because he wanted to take
revenge for his wife, Myrtle Wilson
who had a car accident a few days
ago. George Wilson thought that Jay
Gatsby was the person who drove
the car that caused his wife’s death.
Being hopeless, he committed
suicide afterward.

Phantom of the opera has received
great reviews so far, scaring ladies

director Rupert Julian, who made his
name through another well-produced
film Merry Go -Round.
The film is an adaptation of the
Gaston Leroux novel of the same title,
featuring Lon Chaney, Mary Philbin,
Norman Kerry, Arthur Edmund
Carewe, Gibson Gowland, John St.
Polis and Snitz Edwards. Lon Chaney
featured in the title role as the masked
and facially deformed Phantom who
haunts the Paris Opera House, causing
murder and mayhem in an attempt to
force the management to make the
woman he loves a star.
Following the success of The
Hunchback of Notre Dame in 1923,
Lon Chaney was once again given the
freedom to create his own make-up as
the Phantom, and according to all the
screams from the ladies, it is obvious
that the Phantom appearance is a total
success and there is no doubt this face
would become the actor’s new trade
mark.
The Man of a
Thousand Faces
With another successful film
and an impressing role, Lon Chaney
has reestablished his status in the film
industry. He is, no doubt, one of most
versatile and powerful actors in our
times and with his groundbreaking
artistry in film makeup, he marks his
own uniqueness in this field.
The Colorado born actor is
best known for his characterizations
of tortured, often grotesque and
afflicted characters. He was born
Leonidas Frank Chaney and both of
Chaney's parents were deaf, which
made him skilled in pantomime. He
entered a stage career in 1902, and
began traveling with popular
Vaudeville and theater acts. In 1905,
he met and married 16-year-old singer
Cleva Creighton, and a year later,
their first child was born.

Chaney's talents as a character actor
were truly recognized by the
industry.
Although he is best known for
his talent in make up, Chaney's
talents as An actor lies more in his

characters. In Quasimodo, the bell
ringer of Notre Dame, and Erik, the
"phantom" of the Paris Opera
House, Chaney created two of the
most grotesquely deformed
characters in film history. However,
the portrayals sought to elicit a
degree of sympathy and pathos
among viewers not overwhelmingly
terrified or repulsed by the
monstrous disfigurements of the
characters, who were victims of
fate.
"I wanted to remind people
that the lowest types of humanity
may have within them the capacity
for supreme self-sacrifice," Chaney

dwarfed, misshapen beggar of the
streets may have the noblest ideals.
