NOTE!
All members of the GSIS are entitled to benefits except Members of the JUDICIARY and
CONSTITUTIONAL COMMISSIONS
-entitled to Life Insurance ONLY
Computation of Service:
From date of ORIGINAL APPOINTMENT/ELECTION
Including:
Periods served at different times under ONE or MORE employers
Performed OVERSEAS under AUTHORITY of the RP
Prescribed by GSIS
Effect of Separation from Service:
Member CONTINUE to be a member and ENTITLED to benefits he has
qualified to
Terms:
EMPLOYER
National government, its political subdivisions, branches, agencies, or
instrumentalities including GOCCS and financial institutions with ORIGINAL
CHARTERS
Constitutional Commissions
Judiciary
EMPLOYEE
Any person RECEIVING COMPENSATION while in the service of an
employer
Whether by election or appointment
Conditions:
A. Payable MONTHLY upon reaching the age of 60 years
B. He has RESIGNED or SEPARATED from service
C. He has RENDERED at LEAST 15 years of service
C. UNEMPLOYMENT or INVOLUNTARY SEPARATION BENEFITS
- MONTHLY cash payments equivalent to 50% of the average monthly
compensation
Conditions:
1. Employee is SEPARATED from service due to the ABOLITION of his office or
position (usually resulting from reorganization)
2. He has been PAYING INTEGRATED CONTRIBUTIONS for at LEAST 1 year
PRIOR to separation
D. RETIREMENT BENEFITS
1. LUMP SUM payment
>payable upon RETIREMENT
>PLUS OLD-AGE pension benefit payable MONTHLY FOR LIFE upon the
EXPIRATION of the 5-year guaranteed period covered by the lump sum
2. CASH payment equivalent to 18 MONTHS of his basic monthly pension PLUS
MONTHLY PENSION FOR LIFE payable IMMEDIATELY with NO 5-year
guarantee
Conditions:
A. He has rendered at LEAST 15 years of service
B. He is at LEAST 60 years of age at the time of retirement
C. He is NOT RECEIVING a monthly pension benefit from PERMANENT TOTAL
DISABILITY
NOTE!
RETIREMENT is COMPULSORY upon reaching 65 years of age with at LEAST 15
years of service, BUT if he has rendered LESS than 15 years of service, he may be
ALLOWED to COMPLETE the said period
E. PERMANENT TOTAL DISABILITY BENEFITS
General Conditions: Employee suffers disability NOT DUE to his:
A. GRAVE MISCONDUCT
B. NOTORIOUS NEGLIGENCE
C. HABITUAL INTOXICATION
D. WILLFUL INTENTION to KILL himself or another
1. MONTHLY income benefit FOR LIFE equal to the basic monthly pension
Specific Conditions:
A. Effective from DATE of DISABILITY
B. He is IN SERVICE at the time of disability
C. If he is SEPARATED from the service, he has PAID at LEAST 36 monthly
contributions within the 5-year period IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING disability, or
has paid a TOTAL of at LEAST 180 monthly contributions PRIOR to disability
D. If he is IN SERVICE and has paid a total of at LEAST 180 monthly contributions,
he shall RECEIVE an ADDITIONAL CASH payment of 18 TIMES his basic
monthly pension
E. Member CANNOT enjoy monthly income benefit and the old-age retirement
SIMULTANEOUSLY
2. CASH payment equivalent to 100% of his average monthly compensation for
EACH YEAR of service but NOT LESS than 12,000
Special Conditions:
A. Member DOES NOT satisfy the conditions under the preceding number
B. Has RENDERED at LEAST 3 years of service at the time of disability
SUSPENSION OF DISABILITY BENEFITS:
1. He is RE-EMPLOYED
2. He RECOVERS from disability
3. He FAILED to PRESENT himself for medical examination when required by the
GSIS
F. TEMPORARY TOTAL DISABILITY BENEFITS
-75% of the CURRENT DAILY compensation for each day or fraction thereof of
temporary disability
Conditions:
1. Such benefit shall NOT EXCEED 120 DAYS in 1 calendar year
2. Employee has EXHAUSTED ALL his SICK LEAVE credits and collective
bargaining agreement sick leave benefits
3. He is IN SERVICE at time of his disability
4. If SEPARATED, he has rendered at LEAST 3 years of service and paid at LEAST
6 monthly contributions in the 12-month period IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING the
disability
5. Member CANNOT enjoy TTD benefit and SICK LEAVE pay
SIMULTANEOUSLY
6. If disability requires MORE EXTENSIVE TREATMENT that lasts BEYOND
120 days, the payment of the TTD benefit may be EXTENDED by the GSIS but
NOT to EXCEED a TOTAL of 240 days
7. Such benefit shall NOT be LESS than 70php a day
G. SURVIVORSHIP BENEFITS
When a member or pensioner DIES, the beneficiaries shall be entitled to survivorship
benefits:
1. Basic survivorship pension which is 50% of the basic monthly pension
2. Dependent childrens pension NOT EXCEEDING 50% of the basic monthly
pension
DEATH of a MEMBER
Upon a death of a member, the PRIMARY beneficiaries shall be entitled to:
1. SURVIVORSHIP Pension
Conditions:
A. The deceased was IN SERVICE at the time of his death
B. If SEPARATED, he has rendered at LEAST 3 years of service at the time of his
death and paid 36 monthly contributions within the 5-year period IMMEDIATELY
PRECEDING his death
C. If SEPARATED from service, he has paid a TOTAL of at LEAST 180 monthly
contributions PRIOR to his death
2. SURVIVORSHIP Pension PLUS CASH payment equivalent to 10% of his
average monthly compensation for EVERY YEAR of service
Conditions:
A. Employee was IN SERVICE at time of death
B. He has rendered at LEAST 3 years of service
3. CASH payment equivalent to 100% of his average monthly compensations for
EACH YEAR of service he paid contributions, but NOT LESS than 12,000
Conditions:
A. Employee has rendered at LEAST 3 years of service PRIOR to his death
B. He FAILED to qualify under items 1 and 2 mentioned above
NOTE!
The SURVIVORSHIP pension will be paid as follows:
1. When DEPENDENT SPOUSE is the ONLY survivor, he/she shall receive the
BASIC survivorship pension FOR LIFE or UNTIL he/she REMARRIES
2. When only DEPENDENT CHILDREN are the survivors, they are entitled to the
BASIC survivorship pension AS LONG as they are qualified, PLUS the
