Human Rights Advocacy is about speaking out on human rights issues

and taking action to improve a situation. It is concerns to protect,

monitor, and advance human rights. Human rights are what purpose
needs and morality demands. They are us and we are them. Human
rights are rights that any person has as a human being. We are all
human beings; we are all deserving of human rights. One cannot be
true without the other.

As a student you want to learn how to talk and relate with other people
from different cultures and backgrounds to be able to be exposed to
real world activities which will be of great advantage for personal
development. By serving in different roles of this organization, I will be
able to take on responsibilities or challenges to lead and make a
difference in the university community. Life is not just about career and
making money. It is about building friendships and living the life you
desire. Getting involved on campus provides a chance to meet people
and build lasting friendships.

as medical missions, organizing events such as fundraising, attending

I first developed a passion for human rights as an undergraduate at

XU, where I studied Nursing. My time studying Nursing in XU, being
exposed in remote locations and in training in various hospitals hugely
influenced my perspective, convincing me to work at the intersection
of access to legal services and womens rights. Having spoken with
women and girls in hospitals, Ive noticed the interrelated nature of
poverty and violence against women and the impact a passionate legal
advocate can have on the lives of the poor. And yet, legal services
work remains underfunded in the local development realm. This
interest has eventually led me to law school, where Im hoping to
develop the skills to be a better human rights advocate not only
finishing law school, but through direct representation of the poor
especially women, girls, and refugees.
Corruption in the Philippine Government remains a challenge. The
people are charged with taxes but we end up having incompetent
realization of road and traffic rules, deficiency of flood control system
and road constructions (They destroy roads then immediately fix it,
as a tactic for kickback). Even if lets say we have a decent president,
it would still be challenging for him to realize good governance
practices nationwide because the rest of the politicians would not
support something that has nothing in it for them. This problem is
passed from generation to generation, more so in considering the fact
that the strongest politicians for dynasties. The problem in the
government collectively, is the major reason for the rest of the
problems.
